hold up....i'm hearing some people say 40 million for 5 years....and then some people say 80 million....which is it??
40 mil is guaranteed. 80 million is with the incentives included. I'll bet some of those incentives are easy to reach though. |

40 million guaranteed. up to 88 million in incentives. We'll get details later. That's beside the point. |

5 years, 78 mill (max 88 mill), 40 mill guaranteed. kjohnsoncsn Kelli Johnson Just confirmed McNabb deal is done, as reported...5 yrs, 78 million w/40 million guaranteed. How do you turn the page on Detroit? That's how |
Re: Redskins and McNabb Agree to Contract Extension
actions speak louder than words.
after all shanahan's ridiculous explanations for benching mcnabb and the questions ir raised, this move assured mcnabb and the rest of the players on the team that mcnabb is the teams leader. if there was any question before, there isnt now. i like it. |
Come on redskins fans! Got damn! We cry to get a good QB and now we got one and all we do is cry cry cry cry! I would give this type of money to a guy who is proven and not some rookie QB! Its only 8 million per yr. Let's get behind our team and organiztion and have faith! HTTR!!!
Only 8 mil per year? I'd love to know where that math came from. Let's do some simple math here. 78/5 = 15.6 mil per year. For the purpose of this post lets' assume the 40 mil guaranteed is going to come in the form of roster bonuses, signing bonus, etc. and divide that by 5 too. So 40 divided by 5 is 8. Add that 8 to the 15.6 and the rough sum is 23.6 mil per year. Now we all know he's not going to see all that money, I'm assuming he'll retire at some point in this contract or take a backseat to a young up and comer (hopefully) and we'll restructure it or something, but my final sum of 23.6 mil per year is nowhere near close to the 8 mil per year you are suggesting. |
Re: Redskins and McNabb Agree to Contract Extension
Apparently, the Redskins have been mediocre enough for the past decade that slightly above average is now worth paying elite money for. There's a whole host of QBs I'd take over McNabb(not Jason Campbell, btw).
And faith alone ain't going to win football games. In our glory years, we also had the tangible aspect down. Those teams had talent to go along with the coaching, etc. The current regieme has stymied us with a win now gamble in which they have only 3 years to reasonably expect their gamble to succeed.
That host of qb's you mentioned arent currently available, and we didn't give up 2 high draft picks for them. Fairly certain that the host your mentioning might have a combined number of pro bowls that equal McNabb. Now we have time to draft someone to learn the system behind Donovan. While we can also focus on rebuilding the team Shanahan style. |
Re: Redskins and McNabb Agree to Contract Extension
Football outsiders (thus far)
- He's not playing all that well. By any measure. He's 25th in DVOA, has 6.3 AY/A, is completing 57% of his passes and has more INT than TD. - He's injury-prone. The Redskins are paying him after he's been sorta healthy for eight games. Guys don't get healthy at 34. - He had little leverage. A lockout next year takes time off of the end of his career. 2011 draft has lots of QBs. Buyer's market. - Don't know what his compensation will be next season, but they could have franchise tagged him for $16m, and I bet it's more. - As for idea that McNabb goes beyond his indiv. #s? Redskins rank 24th in PPG after being 26th last year. Def. was 18th in 09, 13th in 2010. - Their passing offense is 23rd in the league with a 6.1% DVOA; a year ago, they were 20th, at 7.0%, with no OL. |

BUT Chances are the bulk of the 40 is in the first few years, so probably its more weighted like 25 per year the first two years and 12.66mil the last 3 years. Here is a link to a good article (not on the salary but the benching/extension connection) The Bench, The Bank and in everything Between! « DC Sports Radio |

Actually, Bradford was reachable. Had Vinny NOT bring in Mr. Bingo, we had a shot. (See the trade of Ralph Backstrom to some defunct Oakland team in order to get Guy Lafleur as an example of this course of action being applied) |
Re: Redskins and McNabb Agree to Contract Extension
This is probably a good move and at the right time. The organization needed to move away from all the negative headlines that's been going on for the past two weeks. This is a sign that the organization is committed to Donovan McNabb. The perfect scenario is for Donovan to throw for 300 yards and 3 touchdowns in a victory over his former team.

Giving up possibly two young guys who could have established stability at a position for over half a decade(i.e Landry and Nate Allen at safety) for someone who would be lucky to last that long is not a very sound strategy. Also, it removes the ability to sacrifice a season to target the next big QB that will be coming in the near future. |
This contract is a Huge Mistake!!! DM can't play under pressure. Never has been able to.
Damn right this is a huge mistake. How do you pay an average/above average QB anywhere near Tom Brady money? WTF are they thinking? Andy Reid is somewhere chuckling right now. |
Re: Redskins and McNabb Agree to Contract Extension
Boy...have you guys seen the comments on espn....everyone except Redskins homers are tearing the skins apart for this move.
I guess the good thing is....Skins get ripped early then folks say I told you so....or...the Skins look like geniuses if McNabb plays to his potential. Either way...I certainly don't equate McNabb making a big $ to a historically irratible Haynesworth. If anything....I would expect the massive questioning to be a major motivator to a probowl leader like McNabb....time will certainly tell. |

I was being sarcastic about the huge mistake part. But he really has not had much success under pressure. I'm actually a HUGE McNabb fan! He's worth the money and is good for the team. If we didn't pay him, someone else (Cards) would have. |

Too much money for a guy on the down side of his career. If he he has a shitty game tonight, I can't wait to hear what they say tomorrow. For that kind of money I expect great games every Sunday for at least the next 2 years. |
