Re: ESPN Report: Terrell Owens attempts suicide
I gotta say though, his publicist did nothing for his cause. I could buy everything Terrell said, but then she gets up there and looks like a blatant liar. Somehow we're supposed to believe the police lied about what she said to them? Bullshit. If I had to put money on what really happened?: I'd say she absolutely told the police he was depressed. Whether he really is or not, she struck me as the type that would completely over-react to the situation. And then she has the audacity to say the media is taking advantage of T.O. by reporting this as an attempted suicide attempt? Hey honey, maybe the media wouldn't have reported it this way if you didn't tell the police he was depressed. If anyone is to blame for this whole fiasco, I blame her. Nice job "publicist".
I completely agree. First, she basically said the police were lying in their sworn statements. And then she denied ever saying that TO told her he was depressed and then she went on to say, "he has 25 million reasons not to be depress," and bolted from her chair like it was on fire. So has no rich person ever killed themself? |

Uh.. have you ever been to Dallas? Their cops have the highest 'shoot first make up an excuse later' ratio in the South. |
Re: ESPN Report: Terrell Owens attempts suicide
It sounds like T.O. still could use some professional help.

all joking aside TO and the media what more can you really say.
for me the media has their own pool swimming with the sharks just to get a story.TO is a great talent but it,s the personi and the way he carrys himself that bothers me. this sure sounds like something blown out of proportion to me... |

Why the hell would I ever go to Dallas? ;) And I still don't believe the publicist over the police. The police gain nothing from lying about what she said. |
Re: ESPN Report: Terrell Owens attempts suicide
To me it sounds like the cops took the statement he was depressed, ,missing pills, and he was taking 2 pills to equal attempted suicide. I think its the police fault for not finding out the facts before they submitted their report. They had to know that the media was going to see it and run with the story. With that said maybe thats what they wanted to happen.

If you read the police report, it is very matter-of-fact. All it does is report the facts as they see them when they arrive on the scene. The police didn't make any conclusions (as is evidenced by the fact that T.O. was not charged with the crime of attempted suicide). They simply reported what happened. It's the media and public that drew their own conclusions about the suicide. And let's not forget that the police were called to respond to the house based on what the medics saw and the information they gathered from the publicist. |

Re: ESPN Report: Terrell Owens attempts suicide
....or is it the publicist that needs to cover her own ass for completely overreacting and making statements to the police that caused this whole thing to blow up in the first place? If she doesn't make the "depressed" statement, this whole story stays as: "TO taken to hospital for allergic reaction to pills".

ESPN has been lost credibility since reporting Brett Farve to make retirement after week one. This just makes them look worse. I dont even look at them for sport news anymore. |

Huh? I don't know of a single news agency in the United States that didn't run this story based on the contents of the police report (which simply restated what the publicist said happened). CNN, SI, MSNBC, ...... every one of them reported the same thing. |
Re: ESPN Report: Terrell Owens attempts suicide
It was reported by just about every possible media outlet.

Has TO been acting funny, is he this or that, has he showing any signs of depression lately, she answers yes, thinking he was depressed a little because of his broken finger. I think if you ask Shawn Springs if he was a little depressed because he could not be out on the field helping his team the answer would be yes. So if asked if he was depressed about anything then the answer would be yes.

The police report basically just re-hashes what the publicist said to the responders. Clearly her fault for not knowing what the heck was going on. Media has to report stories based on what they know, its not their fault if they have bad info from a supposedly reliable source, like the publicist should be. |

Yah, maybe. But I don't understand why you are blaming the police for what is in the report. Have you actually read the report (because I have)? Can you show me where they made any conclusions in that report? Can you explain to me why the medics felt the need to call the police based on what the publicist had told them? It's not like this woman was being interrogated by the police before the medics even made the decision to get the police involved. |
One thing we can say about him is he's never had off the field issues, until now. He's never been locked up, picked up for DWI, caught with hookers and coke in a hotel room, etc.
He might be a pain in the ass in the locker room, and even that's debateable to an extent. Alot of his ex-teammates say he wasn't a problem. You also have to consider how some of his antics are blown way out of proportion by the media. Hate the player, but I don't see any reason to hate the man.
well said Matty, to hate a human being is stupid, and I'm beginning to see more stupid skins fans than any other......... |

Re: ESPN Report: Terrell Owens attempts suicide
Hard-heartedness or a lack of compassion or whatever is not the same as stupidity. Jerry Jones allowing Owens' publicist up on the platform for the press conference in front of the Cowboys logo--that's incredibly stupid. Who's in charge over there?
It looks like Bill Parcells has done a Pontius Pilate regarding Owens and the dynamics of that relationship (Parcells/Jones) is far more interesting to me than anything involving T.O. Without Owens the Cowboys are a decent team, but without Parcells they are nothing. |
Re: ESPN Report: Terrell Owens attempts suicide
I've always loved to watch TO on the field. I've never felt any hatred toward him off the field. Especially not recently. When he acts up, hey, you knew the risk you were taking when you signed this guy.
But whether I liked Owens or not, hearing about another person going through something like this is difficult. It's tough to believe that he would attempt suicide. However, the more I think about it, the more it would make a little sense to me. All of the pressure he is constantly under is insane. He goes down with a hammy we get an update every single day. Hines and Steve Smith go down, what do we hear? Not much at all. It's kinda odd to me that his life is this wide open and no one really knows who he is. I'm not trying to justify suicide or even claiming that he did attempt suicide, just that if he did, I could see why being a fishtank might force someone to it. |

Re: ESPN Report: Terrell Owens attempts suicide
I just finished watching his presser, and if you ignore the 'outside' noise, I thought he seemed very plausible. I personally believe that it was simply a story blown out of proportion. Even if he is going through a spate of depression, so what, did he try to kill himself?
Dunno....I hope get's back on the gridiron and kicks ass...except against you know who. |
Re: ESPN Report: Terrell Owens attempts suicide
After hearing what TO had to say in defense of himself I feel better about his situation. I'm glad to know he hadn't reached a point where he was depressed enough to consider taking his own life. When something like this happens, stories run rampant and you don't know what to believe until all the facts have been heard. It would be nice to just see him stay out of the headlines for a while.

Re: ESPN Report: Terrell Owens attempts suicide
Damn, Guy you should be his publicist.

Re: ESPN Report: Terrell Owens attempts suicide
So, what I'm hearing is that:
1) Most of you believed that he was depressed and felt sorry for this turd. 2) Now, most of you believe his amnesia story because "it sounded believable" 3) No one sees this for what it is: a publicity stunt. Choreographed by TO. Anyway, I've got some beachfront property in Utah for sale... Yeesh. |
Re: ESPN Report: Terrell Owens attempts suicide
More proof that this was just a publicity stunt: this just in from TO's house:

And what's Ethridge doing with TO anyway? All these years I thought she some lesbian singer. So she calls 911 because he was "unresponsive". News Flash: HE WAS IGNORING YOU BITCH! That is how guys deal with annoying women who don't know when to leave us the hell alone. The two minutes I watched her during the presser made me want to start popping pain killers. |
