We are NOT in salary cap hell. A bunch of contracts will be restructured and we will be fine. Mark my words.
I'm honestly getting sick and tired of hearing about how we're in salary cap hell. Yet, we still manage to sign some FA's and stay under the cap. Hasn't this owner already proven everybody wrong by now??
Re-read my post...I said we AREN'T in salary cap hell. Make sure you see with your eyes and don't let your brain jump to conclusions before going off on things that weren't said. We'll be able to make a couple of moves due to the astute cap management team we have, and we won't be letting people go like crazy, but if you think were going to be able to compete for elite FA's, then you will be disappointed. |
Re: Who is Next?
Russ Grimm Arizona Cardinals Assistant head coach/offensive line coach
Snyder scored points with Redskins fans by hiring the Redskins' Hall of Fame coach, so why not hire one of their greatest offensive linemen? Grimm was a candidate for jobs in Chicago and Pittsburgh and is clearly ready to take the step into head coaching. I could get excited over Russ. He has the fan connection as well as coaching experience. For the Cower supporters they did work together. Coaching with Cower and playing for Coach Gibbs I'm sure he learned a few things. Several former players are doing very well as Head Coaches. |

Re: Who is Next?
I won't be happy unless it's Williams. Keep the staff the same. Oh yeah, we really need to get rid of Vinny Ceratto too and get a real GM.

No, but just yesterday, he was telling us that Joe was in negotiations for an extension. I did not get anything like, we wont hire Williams out if the press confrence. In fact, Snyder said that he likes continuity. I believe Williams is hands down our next coach. I also believe that Lavar Arrington knew this already. |

Seriously, do you speak to Lavar or something? I think you're stretching it when you Lavar already knew this was coming, so my guess is that you've had private conversations with Lavar? |
Re: Who is Next?
I have no clue who should be the coach next year. As long as we keep majority of the players we have now. We have the players to win a SuperBowl. We just need some additions that would fill in our gaps. I actually don't see Cowher being a Redskin. He wouldn't look right lol.
If I would choose be in your list. I would say Gregg Williams. |
Re: Who is Next?
Please god don't go Cowher -- I don't understand why everyone blows smoke up his ass. When you're with a team for that luck, eventually a blind squirrel finds a nut.
This has to go to Greg Williams -- Keep Saunders around as OC with full control of the offense, promote Blache to ass. HC Defense. It's already setup for a perfect transition -- do it.
AGREED. GW is the best for now snyder already give us a hint a year ago that GW will be the man if coach Joe steps down. no reset button please or else we suffer |
Re: Who is Next?
I voted AS. I truly belive GW deserved a chance but in his first year I was impressed with his Defense but last year and this year has left me feeling like he does not know how to make half time adjustments. He seems to line up his defense week in and week out and say try to beat me. I know he brought them to 8th place in the league but I'm not impressed with his style. It seems to rely more on LB blitzes and CB blitzes and less on DL push. DL seems to be used more for containment and plugging holes so runners can't get through.
I worry that if AS was named GW would leave although that might not be bad other then players being upset. If GW is named I worry that AS would be looking at the new Coaching positions available leaving this Offense in shambles and JC learning a new offense again. One could say the same about half time adjustments with AS but his system was proven in St. Luis, and KC. This offense works. The question is why was it not working in Washington? was it Gibbs liking big OL to slow for AS motions or was it players not buying into the system or was it Gibbs interjecting when he should have left AS to run the offense. I don't know...in house is best but if we do go outside for the big name effect then it's another revamping year. Perhaps AS is not wanting the stress of being a head coach again. Maybe he is willing to work with whoever comes in. Then I wonder how Cower's defense would look on this team with the players we have. The DL is not doing well in GW's defense so perhaps the only thing to change in Cower's defense would be DL which we need anyway. |
Re: Who is Next?
I don't see why Snyder would screw something so easy up. The team became a family this year. Why would anyone wanna screw something so special up. Didn't they say a few years ago that Williams would take over once Gibbs leaves?
I think all of this is a smokescreen becuz policy for the league is policy. The skins will interview people with no intentions of hiring them. Im sure this has already been explained to GW. I think the team will be in tact next year with GW at the helm. |
Re: Who is Next?
snyder and coach Gibbs prefer GW to be the head coach. period.
|
Re: Who is Next?
Come on this is Dan Snyder guys!!!!!!!! Mr. Sexy Pick!!!!!! I think coach Williams would be the safest bet, but Danny is a gambler. Look for it to be either GW or Cowher. Carroll isn't going to get the job done at all. He is at a powerhouse school in a crappy conference. Hard not to do well every year, when Oregon is your only competition and that is only if Dixon is the qb. Plus Danny has gone that road before with his sexy pick of Spurrier. Williams' stint at Buffalo might weigh heavily on the Danny's mind also. I say just sit back and enjoy the fun with the speclation!!!!! Odds are it will be something totally whack!!!!!!! Brian Billick anyone?
I would like the team to promote Greg Williams to head coach, retain Al Saunders as assistant head coach - offensive and promote Greg Blache to assistant head coach - defense. This would maintain continuity in both offense and defense. Unfortunately, if Greg Williams is promoted, I would be surprised if Al Saunders stays. If Dan Snyder decides to go another way, please do not hire a college coach. I would prefer a veteran head coach with winning experience. I like Bill Cowher. I hate Mike Martz as a head coach but as an offensive coordinator, he is ok.
what about this, GW as HC, if Al does go, hire back steve spurrier. then we will have explosive offense and a solid defense. we can compete with the pats |
Re: Who is Next?
Now at the risk of sounding two faced...lol. I like GW. He might very well be able to keep continuity with the team and maybe AS is willing to work under him and everyone tries for the Super bowl next year. I also agree with other people on hear when they say Cowher had only one SB after all those yrs. He may not be the answer either but GW defense seems to have no DL push and quite often seemed flat ie...Seattle, Miami, G-Men(first game). It's like we whoop but the first half then the second half the other team makes adjustments and the defense is lost.
|
Re: Who is Next?
Spurrier? please. Mr. chuck and duck? There was no offensive protection. He had no clue about OL blocking. but....who knows. lol. If I had to bet it will be GW but I worry about our offense.
|
Re: Who is Next?
Why all the love for Cowher? 1 SB in 14 years? Numerous 1 and done in the playoffs? Thinking Kordell Stewart is starting QB material? Or maybe it was the genius way he let Dick LaBeau (SP?) put together great defenses and then take credit.
Cowher + Skins = 08 record of 3 wins. Maybe in four years he'll have "his guys" in place and we can be at 9-7 again. Haven't we learned our big name lesson here? I'd rather have Todd Bowles or Jim Bates over BC. Of course, I feel that GW can get us in the playoffs again next year and be a playoff contender for years to come.
and most importantly he cannot beat the Pats in the playoffs. the steelers did win. when they did not meet the pats |

T.O.Killa you have earned my new sig with that last sentence. Classic. |
Re: Who is Next?
I would love to see G-Will get the head coaching job here. It seems most of the fans and the players agree as well, I just hope Snyder doesn't go all big name crazy and try to hire someone who has no business being here, i.e. Bill Cowher. It took him 15 years just to win a Super Bowl in Pittsburgh, you think he's likely to do it in less time here?

Spurrier is in year 4 of the rebuilding process at South Carolina and he has already stated he is not leaving after putting so much work into the program already. Alabama tried to lure him away before going with Saban, so Spurrier is staying with the Gamecocks and recently signed anohter extension. |

Honestly, no! I have no hard feelings toward Steve Spurrier, heck he's one of the best HC ever to coach in college, but his offense just had too many holes and it just seemed as if there was no structure in playcalling. Spurrier needs to stay coaching in college. Let's keep Al Saunders. |
Re: Who is Next?
What makes you guys think that GW can lead the complete team? The table is set to get in a proven coach-Cowher. Dont get me wrong, Williams has done wonders on the defense but look at Buffalo-he didnt seem to have it all. GW has had some questionable free agent pick ups too. lets not forget arch deluxe.
Understand your concern. Just remember coaches like Shanahan and Bellicheck (forgive the spelling) didn't start off so hot either with their first teams. Shanahan was canahaned by the Raiduhs. I can't remember exactly where Belli(whatever) first head-coached (Browns? Jets?) and whether he was fired. Of course we can't forget the debacle with former DC Richie Pettibone when he took over for Gibbs 1.0. Hopefully, if GW is given the job, he won't bring about the same poor results following Gibbs 2.0. GMAT ______________________________________________________ Hail to the mighty Skins! We will ascend once again into the football firmament. |
Re: Who is Next?
Profootballtalk.com is reporting that cerrato has ties with Rex Ryan. Just throwing it in there. I don't know what to make out of all of this. Just give it to GW. He's earned it. However if Ryan is brought in does that mean we switch to a 3-4. He would bring suggs and reed with him i bet.
|
Re: Who is Next?
Spurrier ruined. or at least helped ruin Patrick Ramsey's career, due to his goofy schemes that left the qb w/no pass protection.
|
Re: Who is Next?
Im gonna throw a name out of nowhere. Bob Stoops?
|
Re: Who is Next?
its called Continuity (SP). if cowher is brought in there goes the rest of coaching staff . he would want a 3-4 def and we are set up for 4-3 basically and cowher would probably clean house ... why not Russ Grimm if not Williams.. keep Williams on Def..

If its anyone but Gregg Williams, I think the players are going to have some serious, serious issues with that...I think Gregg has earned it, if we can keep him and Saunders I think were going to be in great shape both offensivley and defensivley.

I think your right, but I am wondering how many coaches retire along with Gibbs? |
Re: Who is Next?
IMO when the dust settles GW will be the next head coach of the Redskins.
He has also earned the chance, has the respect of the players and will keep continuity within the organization which is very important. I see the move of GW into the head coach a no brainer. |

Re: Who is Next?
Why is Spurrier even suggested on this thread, WTF?? GW all the way, we are in a perfect situation for everything to fall into place. If that doesn't happen it will be the most retarded thing I've seen in a while. I say that and watch Bugel be named head coach!

I think the 3-4 defense wouldn't work unless we had a Glenn Dorsey or Vince Wilfork type of NT. But Suggs & Reed sounds good!!! I think highly of Ryan also. |

LOL Oh please use that as your sig at least until someone can top that, which won't be easy. I would bet decent money that Greg Williams will be our next head coach. I think Saunders will stay unless he is courted with a head coaching job, which I doubt will happen. |
Re: Who is Next?
I see no chance of Cowher ... and Im glad, he is a great but it would take away from the closeness of the squad and the chemistry would suffer... if he comes in he wants his own guys... Gregg Williams is the man, thats why he resigned before, they already have something hashed out ... I can feel it. Gibbs is the personal advisor to Synder so I guarantee he will be pushing hard for Williams... he knows that hes the answer and Cowher would change the chemistry and look of the team drastically... Gregg Williams learned under one of the best coaches ever to coach in Gibbs for 4 years he learned a lot that he didnt know about when he coached in Buffalo ... he would work good ... the players want him to be HC ... Jerry Gray would step into DC just like in Buffalo ... remember the TOP 5 Defense they had?!?!? Dan Synder learned a lot from Gibbs too..
