Our board is designed to work at any height and it can be lowered all the way down to the floor for repairs or for viewing party's of away playoff games. We could not operate if our board did not move.Wiring is not an issue at all.
Plus boards and components on these screens go out and need fairly regular maintenance and repair. They are going to have to pay huge money to rent lifts to get up there to repair it.

Jerry Jones got his way. The 60-yard big screens will stay at 90 feet above the field.

Here's a press release from the NFL regarding the rules if a punt does hit the Jerrytron:

Commissioner ROGER GOODELL notified NFL clubs of a change in rules for the 2009 season relating to the video board over the field at the new Cowboys Stadium but that will also potentially apply in other situations.After consulting with the Competition Committee and NFL staff, the commissioner said the following will be in effect for all remaining preseason, regular season, and postseason games of the 2009 season:

If a ball in play strikes a video board, guide wire, sky cam, or any other object, the ball will be dead immediately, and the down will be replayed at the previous spot.

If there is not an on-field ruling that the ball struck an object, the Replay Assistant is empowered to initiate a booth review, including if the event occurs prior to the two-minute warning. If, prior to the two-minute warning, no booth review is initiated by the Replay Assistant, a coach's challenge is permitted under the customary procedures for such a challenge.

In the event the down is replayed:

(a) The game clock will be reset to the time remaining when the snap occurred.

(b) All penalties will be disregarded, except for personal fouls which will be administered prior to replaying the down.

1. Jones got his way FOR NOW.

2. The point isn't how many punts missed the scoreboard. The point is that stadiums should never block punts, not even once. One time is one time too many.

Given that I expect more punts to hit the screens this season, I look forward to laughing at the ongoing humiliation of the building-inept Cowboys. In fact, I pray that someone hits the screens in the Bonehead Palace and knocks them out of service.

Even pretending that Jerry Jones is right about something and the punter has to hit the screen on purpose to do it...you can bet if a team has a big league against Dallas, their punter will hit the screen to stir up some league trouble for Dallas. I hope they do. This needs fixed.

For the record, I do not think the only way to hit this monstrosity is to do it intentionally.

This is BS...

That scoreboard is comparable to a fan interrupting game play...and if you went to the Bears vs. Skins game in 07' you'd know how fans are dealt with when they disrupt live gameplay.

It has no business affecting ANY live game play but apparently the NFL thinks it does....completely foolish of Goodell and the NFL. I know that Jerry Jones has a lot of clout with the league so that could be a reason the league is so willing to comply with this.


There are already tons of disadvantages that come to mind just from the top of your head. The league is suppose to be there to make sure all games are fairly conducted.

How blatant does the game play disruption have to be for it to be resolved by the league?...So far the scoreboard is batting %1.000 in live game play disruptions.

F-that, I'd be pissed...I'd imagine that would affect the next punt return outcome too if the gunners are getting worn down running all the way down the field for just a "do-over"

Did I misread the rule or does the playclock stay where it was when the snap occurred? What then happens if you're trying to run down the clock before a punt, snap it at 2 -- then the punt hits the screen? You have 2 seconds to get the snap off once the ball is reset? I don't like that part of it.

I also feel this is blown out of proportion. Jerry didn't really get his way, but the NFL realized "Oh shit, this is our fault. We'll have to pay to move this behemoth." If this becomes a consistent problem, something will have to give, but Im willing to bet these rules stay in place. I don't like the play clock one. I do not think it's the league's fault, even if the regulations say 85 feet.

If you're building something, you need to make sure it is done properly. Building regulations are often set low in any type of construction, they're a minimum recommendation.

If every builder followed every regulation exactly with no variance from the codes set up by people who really aren't qualified to do so...a lot of buildings would be useless, unfit to serve their purpose and so on.

He spent $1.2 BILLION and could not make sure the largest component being installed in the stadium is being done properly? He couldn't (out of arrogance) consult someone who just completed a new stadium and found a flaw with the league regulation...then worked around it successfully?

I don't care if the league regulation says 25 feet or 2 miles...it's the builder's (or in this case, the man with the checkbook) responsibility that the facilities meet their intended needs for use...a punt-blocking TV screen does not.

I'd be ripping Snyder too if he did something this idiotic than acted like a pompous ass afterwards...luckily, our owner actually learns from experience and doesn't interfere with his team the way Jones or Al Davis does.

It was installed properly and the installation exceeded the minimum requirement. I'm not sure the burden is on Jerry to run down every new stadium owner and ask what issues they have had. If the burden lies anywhere it would be with the architect or the NFL.

Buster, lets say you're building a house. In your neighborhood no house can be above 60 feet (I really have no clue how tall houses are...). Your house comes in at 58 feet, and they tell you no -- it must be lower. Are you going to suck it up and say fine, then pocket the cost of getting your house down to 55 feet? I'm guessing not. Rules and regulations are in place and you guy by them.

However you swing it, the league is absolutely responsible for the scoreboard being too low. Don't get me wrong, I hate the Cowboys as much as everyone else here. But I truly believe Jerry tried his best to make this stadium as nice as possible for his fans. A big HD jumbotron is part of that package.

You don't believe Jerry would allow architects, installers, or ANYONE else actually make any decisions and changes to his monument, do you?

It's his project, it's his responsibility to make sure it is right...no matter what the regulations SUGGEST. The regulation authors never envisioned a screen that was 60 yards long and large enough to block the view of the top half of the stadium. He was putting something of that magnitude in for the first time, you'd think he would make sure it would actually work for playing a football game under it and fit in the space.

Unfortunately, his pocketbook and ego are both larger than his brain.

Your analogy is backwards...a parallel one would be a city building code that says ceilings must be 7 feet high at a minimum and doorways must be 6.5 feet high. You're 6'7" and you STILL follow that regulation and put in 7-foot ceilings in your house...then are surprised when you're constantly cracking your skull and can't raise your arms up.

When dealing with regulations, you have to make sure the people and contents of the building can comfortably and safely inhabit it. This is where Jerry failed.

Regulations dont "suggest", suggestions do. Regulations are rules and rules have to be followed. Jerry followed the rules.
