What about moving Landry to SS...and Lendy Holmes at FS?

Re: Landry is now a bust!

Or what about moving Landry to "not on the redskins" and keeping reed doughty at SS. Despite the small talent difference, I would much much rather have someone who actually knows how to tackle and plays his heart out every game.

I'd be okay with a mix of lendy holmes and kareem moore at FS - perhaps pick up a coverage safety in the draft too?

when do you get to the point of sitting him? i cant believe after the first toasting yesterday that Gray wasn't in his ear telling him DO NOT GET BEAT DEEP! then it happens at one of the most crucial times in the game. either put him at his rightful spot, or sit his immature ass

"No matter how it looks I'm going to try to jump on it, get the break on something," Landry said. "Staring it down, they ran a nice double move. He [Brees] stepped up in the pocket, I watched him step up in the pocket. ... Great call in that situation."

Landry accepts whatever criticism comes from the media and fans. "I mean, y'all talk about it y'all talk about it," he said. "I mean, the nature of it is how it looks.

"Y'all don't really know the play call, y'all don't really know the situation. If it's talked about it's talked about. I can't stop that. All you can do is know the truth behind it and have thick skin."

Maybe they should put a gag order on him and not allow him to talk to the media. "It's better to be quiet and thought a fool than to open ones mouth and remove all doubt."

Re: Landry is now a bust!

I don't consider Landry a bust, because he isn't playing his original position. When he's in his form at SS, he is a beast. He excellerates on run defense, and chases down fast running backs. But were putting him in a situation he is not used to, which is to cover deep. His inexperience at the position has obviously been exposed. He repeatedly bites on the double move, and then gets burned for a big play.
You always incorrectly say he was a SS at LSU. That is wrong.
According to LSU web sight (link below) and his college Bio LaRon Landry was a FS in college at LSU.
In his freshmen year he had 10 starts, his first career LSU start at CB. Then his second career start was at SS. Then for the final 8 games of his freshmen year he was starting FS . He remained the starter at FS for the remaining 3 years (Soph, jr. and sr. years).

The point is his skills are better suited for the SS spot. He's too undisciplined at FS and every OC in the league knows it.

you said right there, and that falls back on the coaching not being tough enough. you think dick lebeau would let him get away with this, doubtful, they can take retreads like ryan clark and make them probowl caliber

And got toasted when it mattered, acted like a moron every time he made a play. He needs to grow up and realize his team is 3 and 9 before he mugs for the cameras and waves to the crowd like he's Ms. America.

I love it when a guy celebrates after every tackle, regardless of the yardage. He was ridiculous with his celebrating yesterday. Waving to the crowd for breaking up a pass in the end zone. Smacking his fists together for tackling a guy after he gained 7 yards on a run. Dude's ego is way to huge and he has a lot of growing to do. I would in a heartbeat trade him for his brother, Dawan Landry in a heartbeat though!

what pisses me off about this tool is everytime he makes a ROUTINE play he gets up and showboats. i seriously can't stand this guy anymore. i agree, i'd send his ass packing. his poor play has nothing to do with being out of position. it's about trying to be a hot dog and blowing guys up instead of playing smart football. you can't win with guys like landry.

Did you see that nonsense???? Unfuckingbelievable!!!!!!!!!! Here we are 3-9, he's missed numerous tackles, given up numerous big plays and this asshole is waving to the crowd. I can't believe one of the coaches hasn't gotten in his face and told him to STFU and play ball. Where is the ass kicker on the staff to discipline this guy???

Oh I agree. I disagree with those who say he played FS in college so he's not playing out of position. He was drafted to play SS and that's where he should be no matter where he played in college.

Re: Landry is now a bust!

I don't thinking picking up a FS through the draft would be a bad idea...in really simplistic terms, by putting Landry at SS and getting a decent FS, you are taking away one touchdown a game the opposition scores because of a coverage mistake from Landry

Re: Landry is now a bust!

How about just coaching up LL? It would not cost us anything. We would not have to spend a valuable draft pick. We already have two very good SS on our roster (Horton and Doughty). Three is over kill.

I saw a bit on ESPN where they were showing the pre-season game against the Pats and Landry got burned on the double move a couple of times; whoever it was talking was saying there's no doubt that the Saints looked at that tape.

You guys wanting to ship him out are crazy, what's to guarantee that you get someone halfway as good in the 3rd, even at another position? Yeah he gets on my nerves with his celebrations (mostly because he extends them way too long) but he's a great talent, they just need to find the best way to use him.

The notion that Laron Landry is a big play, big hit safety is the greatest myth in Redskins history.

...unless you include the (frequent) touchdowns he gives up to opposing WRs. Those are surely "big plays."

i agree. he's a good player. he needs to be moved out of the deep safety position. he's good at run support(when he actually tackles and doesn't just go for the kill shot) and he'd be fine covering the tightends. he's a much too agressive player to be playing deep safety.

man, i sure do miss sean taylor.

i think LL could be a great wrecking ball of a SS. i think weve all known that LL is best suited to play his natural college position of SS and not FS.

even with his solid deep cover skills he kept up all of last year.

he has to be moved to SS, to bad springs isnt around to be the FS.

wolfeskins 12-09-2009 10:40 AM

Re: Landry is now a bust!

no. read strength #4 and weakness #2 on your chart. landry was the help, he should not have jumped the rout. the guy illustrating the video is wrong. smoot should not be over the top of landry, it's the other way around.

mlmdub130 12-09-2009 11:10 AM

Re: Landry is now a bust!

^ i agree, and i don't know how you can watch that video and not think both td's were all on landry biting on a double move.

the first was his hands down and it was a terrible move he bit on. the second was actualy a great move on meechams part but to say that over top across the middle was smoots responsibility, isn't right, landry was the help and he let the wideout burn him yet again.

and after watching those plays again i don't see how he can't get benched after los got benched for pretty much the same thing

freddyg12 12-09-2009 11:15 AM

Re: Landry is now a bust!

Kareem Moore doesn't have the speed, or range as they say, that LL does. But he might be better suited to playing deep in cover 2, so long as he doesn't try & get extra yardage on int. returns!

Landry's talent & ability are working against him similar to ST's early days when he liked to gamble a lot. If Rogers can be sat down for repetitive biting, I would say Landry should've been sat down long ago, at least for a few plays so that the staff can talk to him. Maybe that's already been done? If so, he isn't learning.
