Re: Let It Snow
We had just over 3 feet here at my house. Our neighborhood still hasn't been plowed due to the money situation most likely (The county said in the paper that it had no more snow removal money, and as a result some places won't get plow service because they will be focusing on the main roads, etc...).
So there was a radio announcement yesterday begging ANYONE who had a plow truck or tractor to please come and help each other...it was pro bono work, but due to an emergency, they were just asking people to help each other out. My dad went out last night with his tractor, which is a john deere with a big snowblower on the front of it. He plowed driveways and stuff until about 2 in the morning... Now with nearly a 100% chance of snow for Tuesday night and Wednesday, we will probably be shut in again... |
Re: Let It Snow
29.6" here in Germantown, We lost power late Friday night and it wasn't restored until 8:45 Sunday morning. Life is difficult living without power, your options are limited.

It was completely insane. I can't think of the last time I had that much fun with so many folks that I didn't know. My buddy got popped and walked away with a bloody lip. Of course I didn't let him hear the end of that for the rest of the day. I did see the clip of it on Sportscenter. |
Re: Let It Snow
hot damn you guys have a crap load of snow... you're going to have some flooding issues when that stuff starts thawing out in the spring
|
Re: Let It Snow
It's a beautiful, crisp day today. Lots of sunshine. After this Caps game, I'm definitely headed out (on foot) to take some pics and do a little exploring.
|
Re: Let It Snow
tried to take my truck out just cause i was bored and the caps game hadn't started yet, got all of about 6 feet before i had shovel my self out, just to get back to my parking spot. they are saying we probably won't see a plow til tuesday, i honestly don't think a plow truck could even make it down my street

It might start thawing before that. Thats what happened last time. The next week it was mid 40s and it all melted. |

except that they are calling for around 6 inches maybe more on tuesday night through wednesday a lot of people can already get out to major roads but narrow neighborhoods like mine will most likly go untouched until later this week |
Re: Let It Snow
so i just took my dogs for a walk to see what everything looked like, and it's still pretty crappy, so why would there be some jackass trying to drive a pos minivan, and getting stuck, i have no clue, and why would four retards veture out in a jetta w/o a shovel, beats me. and lastly i'm not a really smart guy but when i shoveled my truck off i didnt throw the snow in the middle of the street. to me it seems like you would have to be a pretty big douche bag to shovel your car off into the middle of the street especially when you have about 15 people living in your house and you have 6 cars in front of your house. i just don't understand how someone could shovel all that snow off and put a 6 foot wall in the middle of the street and think it's cool. go f yourself

There's a 100% chance we'll get more snow Tuesday into Wednesday, don't know just how much is predicted yet, but any accumulation on top of what we already have is going to be even more troublesome. Flooding is going to be a problem when the temperatures rise above freezing in the daytime hours. |
Re: Let It Snow
Here's a picture my wife took this morning from our front porch.
My driveway is about 1/3 of a mile long, and because of a particularly steep/off camber section of it, we have been unable to plow it. So, we have plowed out through my parents and grandparents property (who live next to us). Our "driveway" is about a mile long right now. My cousin lives further down my driveway, and his trek out is even longer. Here is how he had to dig out. His driveway has a pretty steep 20' drop-off on the left side for about 200 yards (on an incline itself). It's pretty dangerous on a clear day, so this is the only way to do it when we get this much snow. |

The mountains in the distance comprise Shenandoah National Park (Skyline Drive). I live in Rappahannock County, VA, approximately 60 miles west of DC. |
Re: Let It Snow
BEAUTIFUL...we used to drive the Skyline drive when the leaves were turning....

Yeah, a lot of people come out to Skyline Drive Summer through Fall. From my house, I can see the cars driving up there when the sun reflects off their windshields/windows. I've lived within a mile of where I do now, and up until a few years ago, I really never went up there. We buy annual passes now, so we go up a few times a year. |

It's cool so much of your family shares the same land, or at least the same area. Kinda' like the Waltons? |
It's cool so much of your family shares the same land, or at least the same area. Kinda' like the Waltons?
Well, I've never seen an episode of the Waltons, but maybe! The land has been in the family since the 1700s. Currently, my grandparents, parents, sister, cousin, and myself "share" (many implications to that at the moment! lol) the land. The county that I live in is very restrictive when it comes to growth (the area I'm in requires 25 acres per house). Because of this, there are basically no "starter" homes, and as a result, most people who grow up here can't afford to continue living here when they get out on their own. The county is quickly becoming a DC retirement community. We have a 2000 acre farm that surrounds our place. It sold a few years ago for $10million. A developer bought it and is selling it in 50 acre tracts for $500k+. People are buying them and putting up 5-10k sq feet houses. |
Re: Let It Snow
Sounds like a great place to live and really good to be so close to so much family.

I got to my work in baltimore today, the main roads are basically good, but you are at your own risk on the mid range roads, lots of 4 lanes with 2 lanes open, and the neighborhood streets, forget it. Driving past a school, the parking lot hadn't been plowed, they will be shut down for a while, especially if this second storm tomorrow doesn't fizzle out. Worse thing it could do really is lay down a sheet of ice and sleet then a couple of inches of snow. All of this is crazy |
Re: Let It Snow
here is my street it looks kinda clear in front of my truck thats cause i drove 6 feet got stuck and backed up, we are gonna be here for a while, atleast we have a pretty sweet foot path

Re: Let It Snow
Eff people who don't clean off their cars before getting on the road. These jackasses driving around with a foot of snow on their roof are so dumb. And a danger to others on the road.

You can get ticketed for that in NY, not sure what your laws are in regard to that. |

Same in MD. |
Re: Let It Snow
They say its illegal in VA, but i've yet to see it happen. Every car you pass on the road is covered....

Re: Let It Snow
My favorite is driving behind one of them with that entire sheet falls off and lands on my hood.

Re: Let It Snow
So my a-hole neighbor takes off every storm we have, god only knows where and leaves his town home completely covered in snow. Two elderly women live next to him god forbid he stick around to help them, for the record I shoveled out 4 of my older neighbors Isimply had no gas left in my tank to help those next to him. So what does he do he goes over and takes my shovel out of my yard and is now shoveling. Of course my wife does nothing and just lets him take it. If that shovel breaks so help me god becasue god knows there is probably not a shovel to be had in this state right now.
In times like this if you are a able body male it is your duty to help others in need around you, especially your neighbors! |
Re: Let It Snow
So, who's ready for tomorrow's expected 6-10"? :silly:
|
Re: Let It Snow
I don't shovel my own snow and I can;t help the neighbors because I don't want to own a snow shovel. Hell it does not stay that cold here for but so long and will melt in a few days.

if you don't want no mo snow, and get depressed thinking of tomorrows tally, this article is not for you (and therefore not for me in Baltimore) Capital Weather Gang - (washingtonpost.com)
How much?: Our best bet is 5-10" in the metro region, but 8-14" as you head north and east towards Baltimore. South and southwest of the Fairfax County, 3-6" is most likely. Could it be more or less? Yes. Double digit totals (10" or more) remain a possibility throughout the metro region (25% chance). By the same token, if the coastal storm forms too far north, lighter amounts from 1-5" or so might do it. How bad will the winds be? By very late Tuesday night and into Wednesday, sustained winds may reach 25-35 mph, with higher gusts. Assuming there is falling snow, this could create blizzard conditions.
And just so you know, these guys were almost dead on about the weekend storm, including start time, end time, amounts. I have not followed them before, but they got that one on the money |

don't know if you noticed but in the second picture of my street my neighbors who shoveled their snow into the middle of the street blocking it also left over a foot and a half onto of their car. f-ing douche bags |
