I haven’t talked to Philadelphia about any of their players.” Another Rams source said of the Eagles, “They may have a trade offer, but not from us. Why would we trade for McNabb and then go watch Bradford throw on Monday?” Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford, whom the Rams are considering with the No. 1 overall pick in the draft, has his pro day on Monday. Atogwe currently cannot be traded since he’s not under contract. At this time of year, there are going to be all kind of things thrown out there. But no, there’s nothing to it.” The Philadelphia Inquirer website reported Wednesday that the Rams were talking with the Eagles about sending defensive back Oshiomogho Atogwe and a draft choice to Philadelphia for McNabb. “We’re a month away from the draft, there will probably be all kinds of things like that,” Spagnuolo said. “It’s hard to decipher which ones are true and which ones aren’t but that’s just the nature of the game. That’s just what happens this time of year.” Spagnuolo drove over from the Owner’s meetings in Orlando to watch the Cardinals-Mets game on Thursday, the second straight year he has made an appearance in Jupiter. “I love to come down and watch Tony La Russa,” the second-year coach said. “Winning in any sport is difficult, and he has won so many games. “When you win as many games as he has, you can certainly learn something from him. And I love that he is willing to share (his knowledge).” Spagnuolo also commented new overtime rule for the NFL playoffs that will give both teams an opportunity with the football, saying he liked the rule. “It’s hard to get (overtime rules) perfect, but it’s better,” Spagnuolo said. “The league is always trying to get better.” Spagnuolo confirmed that he will be among the Ram’s group who will watch quarterback Sam Bradford throw on Monday but said the Rams have not determined who they will select with the first pick in the draft. “It’s still too early,” he said. QB's aren't RB's and they can play for a long time. If he keeps himself in shape he can play til he's 40. That's 6 more years. Warner, Farve, Kerry Collins, Vinny Testaverde are examples. Jeff Garcia could probably be someones back up. It depends on the individual. If I was Arizona I'd give up a 1st rounder for McNabb. |

See but a QB like McNabb needs to land in the right place. You're right, if I was Arizona, I would trade my #1 in a heartbeat for McNabb. Off the top of my head, they are one of the few teams drafting late in the first round that has a bit of a QB situation. Arizona had the adequate offensive line to protect him (since he is no spring chicken), with him they'd be a contender, and they have the offensive weapons (Fitz and the WR group, a young Beanie Wells, etc., etc.) |

Well, all the guys you mentioned began running into health issues late in their careers. McNabb hasn't been the most durable player during his 11+ seasons in the league. So even if he's lucky enough to play 6 more seasons (which I think is a stretch), it's generous to say at this point he's entered the last third of his career. AKA the downside. |
Re: Rumor: Eagles and Rams Finalizing Trade Involving McNabb
The Eagles can't realistically keep McNabb, Kolb, and Vick can they?
|
Re: Rumor: Eagles and Rams Finalizing Trade Involving McNabb
They should dump Vick. Somebody would probably take him for a 5th or 6th. Cut and run with him.
|
Re: Rumor: Eagles and Rams Finalizing Trade Involving McNabb
Nobody wants Vick and they seem pretty committed to Kolb. So the best option is to move McNabb (unless they really think they can keep all 3). Agree that he's not on the downside of his career, but that's why it's the best time to move him
Ideally for the Eagles, a team like the Niners budges and gives up a first rounder for McNabb |

He threw for 391 against the Super Bowl Champs and 327 against KC in back to back weeks. That didn't happen by accident. |

I have to think they are keeping him. They recently paid him a relatively large bonus. |
Re: Rumor: Eagles and Rams Finalizing Trade Involving McNabb
I'm worried that Philly is going to finagle multiple high-mid round picks from someone. Like maybe a 1 and a 4 or a 2 and 3 over this year and next. If they draft well, they could position themselves really strongly for the next 4-5 yrs.

$1.5M bonus... I still think they would dump him for a pick if they could. |
Re: Rumor: Eagles and Rams Finalizing Trade Involving McNabb
Well I would say that Whitehurst is a bigger risk than Campbell. And as celt said, teams do overpay for what they think is untapped talent.
Besides, for the benefit of our team, I would hope that someone would value Campbell more than Whitehurst. And I wonder what the unbiased eye would think about this comparison. But as I've always said, to me is about the team not the player. Teams tend to look at stats a lot and situations where QBs were when looking at a player like Campbell. Otherwise, you'd never have players having second chances at other teams.
Actually what they are paying for is a player that has huge up side, meaning he can and will improve. True, how much is the question but the up side is knowing there is room for improvement. JC has basically topped out. After 5 years and only marginally improving shows he does not have much improvement. |
Re: Rumor: Eagles and Rams Finalizing Trade Involving McNabb
Man, get this trade done already.
Get McNabb out of our division please, and clear up the draft a little more.
I'm not sure why everyone is so eager to have McNoodle leave our division. He no longer scares the opponents. After his injury a couple of yrs ago he has not been the same. He no longer scrambles as well so he basically has become a pocket passer. I'd prefer they kept McNoodle, we knew what we were up against. I'm afraid Kolbe will be better and healthier which will give us more problems to defend around. |

True, but once they get some real film on him expect those numbers to go down, way down. I don't think KC or NO's game plan was to stop Kevin Kolb. Once he's the permanent starter, they'll start tailoring defenses that negates his strengths. |

Yes!!...The way Arizona's team is currently constructed he would be a much better fit there than in St Louis. Arizona is equiped to win now, you would think that's the type situation Donovan would be looking for at this point in his career. There is no "getting better" for McNabb, what you see is what you get, he's undoubtably already played as well as he's ever going to play. |

There's no way in the world that Jeffery Lurie would trade him to the Cards, even though that would clearly be the best spot for him to land. |
Re: Rumor: Eagles and Rams Finalizing Trade Involving McNabb
i actually think the eagles really want to keep vick.... assuming they move mcnabb. they could potentially run into trouble with all three on the roster. kolb is their future. vick is a great backup/wildcat guy. mcnabb is simply more expensive than he's worth to them since they have those guys. its the ideal time for them to move him. they'll definitely get at least what the rams were allegedly offering.

Re: Rumor: Eagles and Rams Finalizing Trade Involving McNabb
Agreed, McNabb is the odd man out with the trio of QBs.

I saw him play some last year and maybe he was rusty but he looked slow and old. A slow and old Vick = non factor. Maybe this year he will show more but I would not bet on that. |

Although, St. Louis with the right adjustment could be a good place. The Rams have a young offensive line that has had a year to grow up and they should have Jason Smith back healthy. They have a great running game, which the Eagles seemed to lack from time to time. The only issues outside of that would be if they can get some receivers in the draft and whatever is left of free agency, and if their defense can somewhat hold up. |
Re: Rumor: Eagles and Rams Finalizing Trade Involving McNabb
Don't believe any of these "shot down trade rumors" this could be a draft day deal, and cause other teams to want the first pick/think they're getting bradford. the rams are going to reveal there hand yet as to what they're doing.

I am certainly hoping that the Rams will have someone signed before the first day of the draft, I don't know if that helps or hurts the Redskins cause, I just like to have that first pick out of the way. |
"Strategery"
I agree that it would be a close-to-draft-day deal. The Rams are currently talking contract with Suh, McCoy, Bradford and possibly Clausen. If the Rams want McNabb, then it means they plan to take Suh or McCoy with the first overall pick. Executing (or even acknowledging) the trade now would limit the teams leverage in getting the cheapest possible deal from Suh or McCoy.
On the flip-side, if the Rams really want Bradford, then leaking rumors about the potential trade and then publically denying it puts pressure on Bradford to sign a below-market deal, since if the Rams dont take him, the first chance for him to get drafted would be #4 to the Redskins. If the Redskins passed on him, barring a trade, he would fall to the Browns at 7 or potentially the Bills at 9. Last year, Matthew Stafford got about 42MM garaunteed with the potential to earn 78MM over 6 years. Mark Sanchez got selected 4 spots later. His contract: 28MM garaunteed. If Bradford doesn't sign with the Rams, he's going to lose atleast 10MM. With the rumors circulating that the Rams might be interested in McNabb, its in his best (financial) interest to make a sweetheart deal with the Rams to ensure he's the #1 overall pick. A one word synopsis of everything I just said: "Strategery." |

There's always the chance that talks were strong but the extension couldn't be worked out. Who knows.. certainly looks like he'll be on the move. Minny would've been good but with the whole Favre thing I wouldn't do it if I were him/his agent.

I think they strongly expect Farve to come back. It will take a horrible year or a Super Bowl Victory for Farve to retire at this point and I believe the confidence in Farve coming back is part of the reason they're so calm about everything right now like "yeah take as much time as you need Brett." If they felt he was going to retire I would expect the tone to be different. |
Re: Rumor: Eagles and Rams Finalizing Trade Involving McNabb
I just heard Adam Shefter say the Rams have no interest in McNabb. He said they had expressed interest in Kolb, as had a lot of other teams.

Why do the Raiders want McNabb when they have Gradkowski? Give him a chance before you trade for a vet like McNabb. Plus I think thats the last NFL team McNabb wants to play for.
|
Re: Rumor: Eagles and Rams Finalizing Trade Involving McNabb
McNabb>Gradkowski, but not by nearly enough to make the compensation they would have to give the Eagles worth it.
However, from a practical standpoint, it is one more guy between Russell and the field. |

Any time you can package two un-elite players in a trade and get an elite performer, you have to do it. I love both Carlos Rogers and Jason Campbell, but if I could package both of them for Nnamdi, I would have to do it. Likewise, Samuel and McNabb are both valuable players, but it's better to have the elite guy. |

Not only that but the Eagles basically give up a franchise CB for another franchise CB then throw on a franchise QB for no reason what so ever. How is that even remotely logical. That makes the CP trade a few years back look genius on the part of Gibbs and Company. |
