Re: Did Mcnabb open the door for TO?
LOL. Yeah I met Riley when he was a freshman at UF (the last football season I lived in Gainesville). There was no shortage of ridiculously hot women at UF, and he could pretty much have his pick of any one of them. The punter at the time (Eric Wilbur), his girlfriend worked for me at our sports bar, and Riley came in there a few times with Eric. Seemed like a good dude from what limited interaction I had with him.
On a side note, I think he's a big time sleeper as far as WR's go. He's fast, definitely has the size (6-3, around 215), very strong hands, and blocks pretty well too. I believe he ran in the low 4-4's at the combine. He'd be a steal in the 4th round. I have no idea where he's projected though.
This is what we need more of. Write ups of real experiences people have had with players and coaches. |
Re: Did Mcnabb open the door for TO?
I'd love to see the Skins get TO. They won 4 games last year and need help at WR. It DM says its ok to bring him in then they should do it.
|
Re: Did Mcnabb open the door for TO?
Riley is projected to go in the 4th round, maybe late 3rd.
I would not be surprised if Shanahan drafted Mike Williams, troubled receiver from Syracuse, in the 7th round. Shan is known to take gambles on skill players. It's hard for me to envision them going Wr in this draft, except the 7th round, and only if a talented guy is there. I don't see how they get out of this draft without getting 2 O-linemen, a ILB, and possibly a Safety. They really don't have a Return guy yet, that needs to be addressed as well.
Buchanon may get some work at PR, but kickoffs are open it looks like. Could factor in decisions to draft a rb or wr for sure. |
Re: Did Mcnabb open the door for TO?
I don't care either way at this point whether they pick him up or not. I don't think the coach's are infatuated with our WR's but I'll agree I think it centers around Hixon. But the real issue is how long do they think it will take to get them up to speed? or if they are even able to get them up to speed. If the coaching staff is in the mind set of making a run at the playoffs and SB then we need help at that position. If they were in rebuild mode then I think we would be fine.

I dont want to hijack this thread but i dont think my musings warrent a new thread, so........
Do you think McNabb may have opened the door for Shawn Andrews? As soon as he was cut i thought we should bring him in and take a look at him, so that's my basis for starting this. What amazes me is Kyle Shanahan saying he is "excited" about our o-line, but reports that the Shanahans see the WR corps as a weakness. I got to think McNabb is just as worried about the oline as he is his WR crops, if not more so (like the rest of us). Does anyone know of any rumors or speculation about the Redskins and Shawn Andrews. This article also points out that the Redskins have been more than willing to take chances with players that are labeled "injury prone". Re: Did Mcnabb open the door for TO?
I'm amazed that people are still hyped up over Kyle's coach-speak. What's he gonna say? Yeah we need help on the OL and tip their hand for the draft??
As far as the staff not liking our WRs, they haven't come out and said anything in regard to that. |
Re: Did Mcnabb open the door for TO?
Isn't Andrews always hurt?

As far as the staff not liking our WRs, they haven't come out and said anything in regard to that.
Exactly! furthermore you can't blame the QB (JC) and the receivers. It is well known that a great QB makes good receivers. We now have a great QB. We will be just fine in this department IMO. Again if we do go after T.O. or a WR of his caliber, it does not in any way suggest our current receivers are disliked. It simply means we want a "proven" Vet WR. |

Yeah but always hurt has been the case with been Adamn Carriker, Ryan Torain, Roydell Williams, and Maake Kamoeatu. Plus you could make a pretty good case for McNabb being injury prone. The Skins seem to be taking chances with guys who have been hurt and want to prove themsevles, which i am all for. I guess Andrews also has depression issues so that might raise a bigger red flag. Although i feel like his depression might be tied to his back injury issues. |

Maake played 14-16 games in each of 2002-2008. McNabb...yeah...he's been injury-prone over the past few years but is worth the risk. |
Re: Did Mcnabb open the door for TO?
Torrain broke his foot his senior year at Arizona State, dislocated his elbow and damaged ligaments during preseason as a rookie, and tore his acl later on that rookie year. I think he had complications with the acl because he received a injury settlement last year.
Carricker had his shoulder muscle tear injury but im pretty certain he missed or played sparingly his second year because of ankle and hamstring problems. Maake is a 31 year old 350 pounder that tore his achillies last year - so always hurt isnt true but hes a injury risk True - Roydell doesnt make it. |

I too get the feeling a deal may already be in place or an agreement that sometime perhaps in May or June prior to camp he will sign and be a Skin. So he doesn't have to be a part of the voluntary work outs. Maybe he has other commitments. It's just my personal feelings. Nothing substantial. I think all this talk is how DS does business. Re: Did Mcnabb open the door for TO?
As long as his signing doesn't knock Marko out of the line up. I know they just picked up the receiver / punt returner / quarterback guy from UVA....not a great receiver but a serviceable return man. If its the receivers from last year plus Owens that would be the max they would carry. Owens basically replacing Randell Ell.

Did Marko ever get into the lineup? I'd love to see him become another diamond in the rough, a la Chris Horton, but the guy has to show something in order to supplant others. So far, it ain't happening. |
Re: Did Mcnabb open the door for TO?
Misspoke should have said team period. I like his chances with our new QB throwing to him. Then again all the receivers should be better.

I think they picked up the CB Buchanon to be the KR/PR. He even mentioned it on an interview after practice one day. Currently we have: Moss Thomas Kelly Mitchell Hagans Williams Armstrong Robinson I'd be supprised if Hagans, Williams, Armstrong, or Robinson make the team. That leaves: Moss Thomas Kelly Mitchell We could probably get away with only those 4 but I still think they either pick up one in the draft or sign T.O. or both. ARE's spot still needs to be filled. Then there is the PS player. |

I think your right but Thomas needs to be more of a lock. I remember DT getting drafted and people saying he was almost as fast as Moss or would be a good replacement later. It just seemed the team never utilized his speed. |

It was hard to utilize his speed given the amount of time that Campbell spent kissing the turf. |

I think it seems blatantly obvious the last coaching staff didn't utilize anybody the way they should have or we probably would have done better than 4-12. I think if nothing else Shanny coming in is going to put the talent we do have in better positions to success, and hopefully win, and once we get those few pieces we are missing, hopefully by next year, we can be real contenders. As much as i hope we can contend this year it seems like there are too many holes and too much transition. But at least their is something to be optimistic about. I never had that feeling the last _____ seasons. |
Re: Did Mcnabb open the door for TO?
On Tuesday, Redskins Coach Mike Shanahan and quarterback Donovan McNabb shot down a report that the Redskins were looking into signing free agent wide receiver Terrell Owens. But the Redskins are interested in upgrading at wideout, which has led to some buzz about third-year wide receiver Devin Thomas. Apparently, Thomas's name has been mentioned around the league in trade scenarios involving the Redskins.

IDK. I personally would not trade our receivers. Nor have I heard of any rumor coming out of Redskins Park regarding a trade scenario. I wouldn't believe anything I hear as far as a WR trade. I do like the idea of bringing in a proven WR as a addition to our current core however. As far as the draft is concerned: Here ya go...
