I just don't think Galloway showed much. We already have McCardell, there's no need for a player-coach. I like Roydell Williams.
Someone on ESPN 980 mentioned some good stats about WRs over 35 about how they don't produce. But a lot of outlets mentioned that Galloway had a good camp, so who knows. |
Re: 2010 Redskins Final Cutdown
Interesting tidbit on Rinehart...
granthpaulsen League source: Chad Rinehart is still on the #Redskins roster, practiced today. But "they're actively looking at trading him." |
lol... I saw in another thread Dirtbag had Henson listed on IR, but I have not been able to confirm it with a source on the net. Is this true?
With Oldenburg, and Henson (not confirmed) added to the IR list, that only leaves us with 2 more open spots on IR.
Sorry, I made an assumption. I know he's having surgery so I ventured a guess on that one. |

Henson is having surgery? Joey T made it seem like just a sprain.

CindyBoren RT @RedskinsInsider: League source confirms #Redskins have released quarterback Richard Bartel.
The game vs the Cards he seemed like he was on his ass too much and just didn't produce to really give a good impression. Shanny kept the right guy. |

It was tweated by a player on the team.

That is why I keep bitching about the need to get an infusion of youth at WR. I would get TJ I guess as a desperation move. I am surprised Austin got cut. |

With his win now attitude, I don't think MS is looking for a youth movement anywhere. |

Well a little less than an hour until 53-man roster deadline.

I know a lot of people (myself included) wanted to see us get younger across the board. Sure, we could have said F the season, start all our draft picks, but we've seen teams rebuild in a single season. You can't win 'em all when it comes to the draft and obviously we might let a talented player or two walk over the course of a few years, but I'm just happy we haven't over-payed for crappy free agents this year. Everything was calculated from day one and Shanahan made the types of moves where we're going to actually have hope this year balanced with a few young players. You can't nail it in a single draft. |

Win now attitude is what we have had since Snyder bought the team. I don't see much winning going on. Build something special and bring in guys that will stay for awhile. How can teams like the Pack and Patriots keep retooling for over a decade, while we either just plain stink or limp into the playoffs? |

Never said anything about nailing it in a single draft, that would be insane. I am patient. I can wait another 3 seasons of .500 or so football as long as we are constantly improving, and building. I just hope this isn't a reocurring pattern for the Allen/Shanny era, in having to acquire guys on the verge of retiring or just burning out. Joey Galloway still has some left in the tank, as does Housh, but they are at the twilight of their careers and probably won't be here when we do get to the "promised " land. |

I know dude, not knocking you at all. I just had hope that we would put more emphasis on the darft and use it as more than a bargaining chip to bring in free agents that are on the downslide of their careers. |

It's funny that you mention the draft, because they have kept only two out of the 10 players selected in the 2010 draft (T. Williams and Riley). If picked up on the PS you can count Austin...but not really. |

We only had 6 picks, and only 2 of them were before round 6. Most late round picks don't make the team. |
Re: 2010 Redskins Final Cutdown
they are getting future late picks in the future with trades of the old regimes diamonds in the ruff...rough is in the eye in the beholder. Late round picks with all of our normal picks will pay in the long run! Some can say he is building the team long rang through the draft.
Tryon for late pick and possible Rheinhart for late (still in question) But he wants to win...it is a fine line! |
Re: 2010 Redskins Final Cutdown
Can't use our past drafts to counter my argument anyway, as we give away our first two round picks just about every draft, which indeed is part of my argument!!!
|
Re: 2010 Redskins Final Cutdown
Most late picks don't turn into starters, but it's somewhat uncommon for them not to make a team. It's probably safe to say that the draft was underwhelming, though it's good to say we kept the best players in our camp, not just the guys we drafted.
|
Re: 2010 Redskins Final Cutdown
Building a team through the draft is as poor a plan as signing older free agents to big contracts. The only way to build a team is by solid talent evaluation, reasoned planning, and long term goals. To be frustrated at this years situation because we actually cut draft picks is IMO not really looking at how good teams are built. Every contender cuts picks, scours waiver wires, and picks up players that fit their system. 10 years of Skins mismanagement has really skewed our fan reactions.
Lets give this FO a couple years before we roast them. |
Re: 2010 Redskins Final Cutdown
# granthpaulsen
Bryant & Jarmon sticking on DL make things tough for Howard Green. Golston, Haynesworth, Maake, Carriker, Daniels, Holiday gives you 8 DL but you can't have 8 DL, 9 LB (Henson would be 9th), 4 safeties and 5 C CBs. One too many. If Westbrook and Barnes are in, a LB won't be. half a minute ago via web # Cindy Boren CindyBoren RT @LarryWeisman: #Rams cut FB Dennis Morris, a rookie recently traded to them by the #Redskins. 2 minutes ago via ÜberTwitter * Reply * Retweet # Grant Paulsen granthpaulsen |

I don't get it though. What is the pattern? Use your draft picks to address areas of need while picking up cheap vets to fill holes that you can't address through the draft? To me, that's a pretty sound strategy to at least be semi-competitive year in and year out. Now, had we spent our first rounder on an RB or WR I would have been pissed, but I really think they have a plan to make us good now AND build for the future at the same time. |

Re: 2010 Redskins Final Cutdown
I think we have gone backwards with our running game. I think Betts is better now then LJ but maybe that because we played some tough D's. I think that long kick return Banks made Thursday night pushed him over the edge.
|
Re: 2010 Redskins Final Cutdown
First, our running game has been non exsistent since early 2008, how have we gone backwards. We got rid of 2 guys both of whom were not as good as LJ.
We have CP, LJ, and a young guy. Please explain how this is worse than CP, LB, and RC? Betts was cut in the Saints system, and they really do not have a true runner other than Pierre Thomas. |
