Re: Redskins Uniforms
from the same wiki article:
Fans of the National Football League will note the Pittsburgh Steelers, Washington Redskins, and Green Bay Packers as having gold as a color. The gold they use, however, is a distinctly more yellow color (akin to the non-metallic web color version) than the traditional "old gold" used by the New Orleans Saints, San Francisco 49ers, and Saint Louis Rams. In both cases, the color is referred to as "gold".
Yeah, organic gold vs. metallic gold, dammit! |
Re: Redskins Uniforms
Ok I am a new member and from the old school so here is my take on the uniforms. Up until Joe Gibbs #1, the skins always wore their home Burgundy and gold uniforms that appeared a bit drab compared to these updated colors. Then Gibbs began having them wear the white with red pants all these years and to me those got very old. I love the real Burgundy jerseys and gold pants but that color gold is a bit too "busy" and perhaps the shade of gold pants such as what Fl St or Bost College has would be perfect..Just MY opinion..Glad to see the Burgundy back vice Red..

I actually think the brighter gold pants work for our uniforms. They avoided the dreaded 70's look where everything seems to have at least some sort of brown tint to it, which is big part of the reason I hate seeing stuff from the 70's. |
Re: Redskins Uniforms
Ditto, I think the 70's gold is just too boring as well as the burgundy.
|
Re: Redskins Uniforms
I didn't like the gold pants in the '07 home game against the Giants, and I don't like them now. Especially since they didn't match the jersey to go with the older look pants.
If they're going to go for the retro look, fine. But don't mix-match the modern day burgundy jersey with retro gold pants -- and yes, it looks like mustard yellow to me. |
Re: Redskins Uniforms
I'd much rather see them wear the Burgundy jerseys with white pants rather than these icky mustard yellow pants. They should go back to the gold pants like they wore in the mid-60s. As long as they never, never wear those all burgundy uniforms from last year.
Yes. My exact thoughts. I'd be fine with staying with the traditional uniforms that we had during the glory years. If the fans are clamoring for a change, then let's petition the organization to begin an official campaign for a makeover with fan input -- maybe vote for the best new look. |
Re: Redskins Uniforms
I was looking at the Dallas uniforms the other night, and granted I am biased but those stripes and numbers on their jerseys look cheap. Looked like they were ironed on in someones' basement.
I do like the Redskins' band uniforms. A vast improvement from what they had been wearing. For some reason they reminded me of McDonalds uniforms. |

Their numbers just don't look right. The pants that go with the white jerseys are sort of aqua color, too. Not silver -- not the silver they wear with with dark blue jerseys. Anyway, they're the Cowboys. So they just suck all the way around. |
Re: Redskins Uniforms
Yea Dallas jerseys are weird bcuz the pants are more of a greenish color instead of silver. And the blue stripes on the sleeves are differnt colors than the blue star.. Really odd
|
Re: Redskins Uniforms
i think our jerseys were badass sunday night. definite keeper imo.
|
Re: Redskins Uniforms
I wouldn't change a thing. They are classic. Seems like the teams changing their unis don't have much tradition. Look at the teams that still have classic unis: SF, PIT, DAL, WAS, etc.

Get your HDTV calibrated. But seriously, The unis were just a mix-and-match of jerseys and pants that the team had laying around in the equipment room. Did you see Bidwell? He jersey clearly showed the wide yellow and white stripes on the sleeves that match the same stripes on the burgandy pants. Yes, I know most players are wearing the elastic cuffed jerseys so it's not noticeable but, the stripes on the gold pants (and socks) clearly belong with another jersey. In my opinion, DALs unis are clean. Standard numbers without outllines match the players' nameplate and the numbers are on the shoulders instead of on the sleeves. That's why the 70th anniversary unis were so nice. |
Re: Redskins Uniforms
^ (you're probably joking)
No, Dallas does wear green pants and none of the blues match throughout the uniforms. |

Re: Redskins Uniforms
The real reason they did it was: in the 1970s, the colors did not show up accurately on TVs back then, so they started using the silver-green (real name of that color) pants to make them look better on TV.
However, those days of bad TVs are long gone and they still use that trainwreck of a uniform. I have no valid explanation for trying to use every shade of blue known to man in the same uniform, but that's the reason behind the green pants. |

Weren't they supposed to change the color of the pants this season as a result? |
Re: Redskins Uniforms
Yeah it doesn't match but it's kinda their thing now. I wouldn't bother change it.

yea, like mattyk said. Keep em lookin shitty.

Yeah, they were supposed to change to all silver and navy...two UNIFORM colors. There was a even whole thread about it on CCSL but it never happened. |

Had we actually made new uniforms we would have heard about them back during late winter-early spring. Keeping jersey's a secret doesn't bode well for business since the new uniforms are reveled in the offseason to prompt fans into buying them. On top of that teams are suppose to tell the NFL ahead of time what jerseys they plan to use throughout the year, and if I remember right theres a limit to how many different uniforms you can use. However in this situation all we did was recycle the pants and socks from our 70's throwback kit, and since teams don't really sell football pants in stores they were able to keep it a secret. |

This was the only way to make it a surprise when we came on the field. If we wanted new pants completely, it would have had to been applied for with the league and would have been leaked/reported on, just like every other new uniform. There are people out there obsessed with uniforms and dig for this stuff...then share it online. We all knew about the gold pants rumor...but didn't know for sure when it would happen until it did. |

Re: Redskins Uniforms
Sorry, but the dehydrated piss color for our pants looks absolutely horrid, and if our uniforms were deemed ugly before, then there is no way those ugly ass YELLOW, not gold, pants made them better.
Those YELLOW pants made the players easier to see, but more painful to watch. Bottom Line. |
Re: Redskins Uniforms
Love the GOLD pants .. old school Skins' football is back .. take it or leave it ...

Re: Redskins Uniforms
Really not a big fan of the gold pants. I don't mind them but not every game though. I guess unless they use the old helmets along with them. I'd like to see them use the Burgundy on Burgundys or the White on Whites as well this season. I understand that folks want the old school feeling again but I saw them win in the more recent color scheme.
Whatever they do I don't care but I'm not as geeked up for the gold pants as the 74 that voted yes. |
Re: Redskins Uniforms
So what do the Rams wear at home? Dark Jerseys or White Jerseys? Will the Skins be wearing burgundy tops and gold pants again this week?
|
Re: Redskins Uniforms
They wore blue jerseys on gold pants in their Week 1 home game vs. Arizona, so I'm guessing we'll be in white over burgundy this week. I think the gold pants should only be worn with the burgundy jerseys, I think I'd prefer white/burgundy over white/gold.

Re: Redskins Uniforms
The Rams need to stop wearing white pants. I feel like the blue on white is their practice jerseys.

Re: Redskins Uniforms
^ Agreed, their blue on gold looks great.
The Rams have always had great looking uniforms. Re: Redskins Uniforms
No matter what colors we wear, there will be people complaining and whining about it. So go with whatever.
I prefer the old school gold pants. |
Re: Redskins Uniforms
Yes, I wonder if we will go White on Gold? I bet it will be the standard White on Burgundy myself.
|
Re: Redskins Uniforms
I'd rather stick with white on burgundy.
