I turned to my buddy before the extra point try and said we would be better off just going for the win and two points. I know the extra point was not on the kicker but it just adds salt to the wound after missing two FG.

Re: Graham Gano has to Go !!

I said earlier that I would start getting worried about Gano when he started shanking 20 yarders. Well now that that day has arrived, it won't suprise me if he gets replaced. I just want a long term replacement, I'm tired of going through kickers, never finding a decent one good enough.

I was kinda hoping they would go for two, not because I thought they would F up the PAT but just because MS has rolled the dice in the past in Denver in situations like that, and really what did we have to lose?
Heard one of the talking heads on TV say that the Redskins have had 16 kickers in the last 15 years - - since Chip Lohmiller cashed it in.

You would think that just once the special teams coaches here could have found a long-term keeper, no?

Gano has missed 10 FGs this year which is the highest in the NFL.

Meanwhile just to rub salt in the wound, Shaun Suisham is 9 for 9 with the Steelers and will be heading to the playoffs - - unless he breaks a leg.
That's almost as bad as our quarterbacks over that time period!
People definitely need to hear that stat though when they call for Gano's job. I'm always an apologists for kickers, and while it's certainly getting hard to defend Gano at this point (neither of the snaps and holds on either of those missed FGs yesterday were clean, by the way), it should be pointed out to those who are calling for his head that his replacement will likely be just as bad.

Shanny says Gano will play if healthy, this is just precautionary in case his rib injury causes him to miss games

And Landry has been put on IR

Smart move with LL, no sense in risking him this year.

Gano definitely had a fireable performance yesterday, but Changing kickers with 3 games left at 5-8 just seems like wanking your crank.

So you are saying changing kickers would feel good but only benefit yourself. My only question is who is the wanker? As often as we change kickers I am going to say the person has been married for a while.

haha...exactly. Shanny would be the wanker here. Firing Gano would make him and some fans happy but it's pointless. We have 9 months until our next meaningful kick. Lets just wait and address the kicker situation along with everything else in the offseason.

Just as frustrated with Gano as everyone else, but his directional kickoffs are a huge benefit to the team, and if he can get just a bit better at FG's we should keep him on.

Dude is horrible. If you can't count on him to make a FG under 40 yds, what good is he?

OK, I defended him before...no more.

Time to go Gano, take Sunberg with you.

Shanny, get Jason Elam on the phone. Bruce, get Martin Gramatica on yours. Let the geezers battle it out.

so every other available kicker makes every kick under 40? Were his kicks yesterday awful, yes. Are his kickoffs important to our special teams, yes. Can we bring competition in this off-season Absolutely.

It would've been nice, especially with the Bucs beating us on a 2 point conversion (when Mike Alstott didn't get in) about 5 years ago, and it def. would've felt like a little payback, but it didn't happen. The only way this game would've felt worse was if it was week 17 and a "win and we're in, or lose and we're out" situation.

Gano has the most missed field goals in the NFL...I don't know how it can get worse than that. Throw him in the pit of fire!

They may not, but the make a higher PERCENTAGE of kicks than Gano. BTW, some of them do indeed hit all of their kicks from within forty. Not only that, the dude was cutting it close to missing on damn extra points.
Gano has the most missed field goals in the NFL...I don't know how it can get worse than that. Throw him in the pit of fire!
Well, we could NOT be the best kickoff team in the NFL.

That would qualify as worse.

The biggest problem is you don't get to kick off and bury a team deep if you keep missing FGs. We're giving about half that value back in missed field goals vs. the opportunities we've had.

COM ON MAN! GANO MUST go....this kid sucks!

I dont give two shits about his practice accuracy or any of his other stats and dats the bitch cant kick worth a shit when it matters on Sunday for 3! Plain and fckn simple.

We havn't had a good clutch field goal kicker in years come the F ON!

Bye Bye Gano

Bye Bye Gano
Well, I think the list of players who suck and must go could get upwards of 15 or 20 if we're being honest with ourselves. And I'm not sure Gano would be on it.

I think Hunter Smith would definitely be released for performance reasons before Gano would. I'd imagine Gano could probably punt better than him, at least.

Re: Graham Gano has to Go !!

I see that they're tying out good ole Nick Novack among others. Guy has to be the most line drive oriented kicker in the history of football, even on extra points. Everytime he kicked for it I was scared that someone was going to jump up and knock it down. Never knew why I didn't notice it until he played for the Skins.

There was a special some time ago I think 60 minutes and it should the ups and downs of the life of a kicker through the eyes of their family.

It is a pretty nerve raking job to say the least.

Good for him. He's got a ton of talent. He's only 23. He's getting the mental aspect of the game down. He could potentially develop into one of the better kickers in the league IMO, and his kickoffs are beastly.

I think we're going to keep him around. His leg has won us 3 games in OT this year. That's a pretty big deal.

mlmpetert 12-30-2010 11:43 AM

Re: Graham Gano has to Go !!

Yeah i hope we keep him around and think we will. He hasnt had as many kick off's into the endzone as he did at the start of this year but he still kicks pretty far. Also after watching the espn short segment on Boise's kicker i think most kicker are bound to have really really bad days, espicially when their young. Glad we didnt dire him right after his misses, and i hope he continues to get better.

Re: Graham Gano has to Go !!

Mark Mosley wasn't exactly Mr. Automatic in the early going either. No reason not to bring in other kickers and let them push Gano, but no reason to cut him either. Apparently he's going to have plenty of chances to kick game winners in the coming season.

Yeah, young and full of confidence. We might have something here maybe the next great one, he might be ours for the next 20.

Yea I was reading some of the early post by our Redskins fan experts who wanted to fire Gano. I'm not surprised Redskins fans are so impatient and always looking for the quick fix to win. Wake up haven't we learned that there is no quick fix and short cuts to success. Gano is young and has potental let him learn on the job so when we do improve we have a solid vet kicker.
Yeah, young and full of confidence. For those who say that he didn't do much, his 48 yarder against the Jags was with a stiff cross breeze where he had to practically hit the ball wide right, and let the wind draw the ball back in. Not an easy kick, especially from that distance, and Gano executed it perfectly.

Another bad miss. 30 yard straight on shot, difference in the game. Would be nice the way we through money around on crap players like Fat Albert we would try to find a punter and kicker in the offseason.

damn, cant believe no ones hit this thread yet,Gano with another miss, easy one too

I was watching some college football the other day and they were talking about a kicker thats good enough to go early. I'm not saying take a kicker in the first two rounds, but if he's that good, I would in the 3rd.

Re: Graham Gano has to Go !!

Yeah sorry Gano but those 3 points from that chip shot really would've helped when we were down by 3 at the end of the game. We left points on the field, not just because of the missed field goal but also because of the turnovers. We could've won today, the defense stepped it up in the second half other than Hall whiffing on the Manningham touchdown and we could've had this one.
