Re: Redskins and McNabb Agree to Contract Extension
The $40M guaranteed obviously was not correct, this makes a lot more sense and his future with the team beyond this year is still up in the air. They obviously want to see him earn it.

Re: Redskins and McNabb Agree to Contract Extension
WHAT IN THE WORLD?
Why do people keep falling into the same argument? Vick would not make the Redskins Better. Vick would not make the redskins go to the playoffs. The Eagles have a great TEAM. They have a great offensive line with very talented wide receivers and a good QB to boot. We don't have an offensive line, don't have good WRs and have a good QB. It's a TEAM game. The redskins have no talent. If anything, you should be complaining why we spent 3 picks on receivers instead of offensive lineman two years ago. |
Re: Redskins and McNabb Agree to Contract Extension
Totally 100% disagree. Besides, he wasn't just running on us, he was beating us from the pocket with pin point passes. Plus he hasn't thrown a single pick all year our while McNabb has 11. Sorry but this trade looks like dog shit right now.
Not saying it would have mattered either way, but generally speaking a sloppy field will benefit players on offense as they at least know where they're going, defenders have to react accordingly and a sloppy field hurts them more. |

Seems like it's a pretty good deal then, no? Funny how everyone was ready to pile on this deal and to believe that we GUARANTEED DMac Brady-style money. I guess we deserve that with all we've done in the Snyder era, but to hear Gruden and co. bring up Jeff George et al. last night was just more salt in the wounds. McNabb is no savior, but he's a decent vet. And he's not anywhere near our most serious problem at this point. O-line, WR, RB, a front seven that can play the 3-4, etc. seem more pressing to me. Whatever. I am getting tired of being kicked in the nuts by this team year after year. Guess that's the price of being a skins fan! |

Yep, he ole'd Lorenzo at least 3 times.

That is my main problem with this contract Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I don't think there is any 40mill in this deal and from what I see its pretty much a win win for the skins. We can pretty much dump him at any point without taking a hugh hit and we are not tied to him as the deal first seemed. |

In the open MV has owned just about ayone trying to tackle him one on one. He can avoid contact better then 95% of the running backs in the NFL. |
Re: Redskins and McNabb Agree to Contract Extension
This deal gets better w/each report I read! It sounds like Bruce Allen's making a big impact on the kind of deals that are being signed. Now, if he can make some draft day trades, get shanny some more picks, start building a young team.

Re: Redskins and McNabb Agree to Contract Extension
This really amounts to a 2 year contract. Essentially McNabb walked with $3.75 yesterday and could make some nice coin in 2011 if he's still on the roster. From what I just heard McNabb could be here through all of training camp 2011 and we could still cut him before opening day and he wouldn't owe him a dime.
Either way, I don't see McNabb here beyond 2011 and it wouldn't surprise me one bit if Shanahan and Bruce Allen cut ties with him after this season. If Shanny benched his so called leader with two minutes to go during a crucial drive vs. the Lions, I'm sure he has no qualms about shipping him out altogether. My guess is that he'll be back, but Miami is looking more attractive by the day. I say ship Mac and Moss (two players in their 30s who have interest in the Miami area) to the Fins and get us some of these damn picks back. |

I have always admired McNabb and still would if he was shipped off to Miami, but I'm more interested in having someone who could be a franchise QB for the next ten years easily. |

This is why people need not freak out when they see the initial numbers. http://www.thewarpath.net/758433-post87.html Turns out it may not even be 2 years. Smart negotiating led by Eric Schaffer. Still, we need someone for the future, and I don't think it's John Beck. Would have loved to have drafted Sam Bradford, would have even have been content with Mark Sanchez. Getting McNabb was totally fine by me, but realistically he's not a long term answer |
Here's McNabb's contract breakdown:
Source: Donovan McNabb due just $3.75M if cut after '10 - ESPN Here is how the rest of the full deal breaks down, according to an NFLPA source: • 2010: $3.5 million signing bonus/$250,000 if active eight games • 2011: $10 million option bonus/$2.5 million salary/$750,000 if active 16 games/$250,000 workout/$2 million possible playoff incentives • 2012: $12.75 million salary/$750,000 if active 16 games/$250,000 workout/$2 million possible playoff incentives • 2013: $13 million salary/$1.5 million if active 16 games/$250,000 workout/$2 million possible playoff incentives • 2014: $13.75 million salary/$3 million if active 16 games/$250,000 workout/$2 million possible playoff incentives • 2015: $13.55 million salary/$2.25 million if active 16 games/$250,000 workout/$2 million possible playoff incentives
Am I reading into things or is it interesting that this year is the only year without "$2 million possible playoff incentives", Does that imply in any way that the Skins acknowledge this was a transition year, and not one with strong playoff potential? |
Re: Redskins and McNabb Agree to Contract Extension
You really have to applaud this deal now that we know the real terms. We promise him nothing after this year, and we have the optionality of keeping him at a very reasonable level next year. Job well done.
|
Re: Redskins and McNabb Agree to Contract Extension
So the answer to the all important "dead money" question is....3.45 million. Hard to care about that much. Don't see a specific benefit to it though unless they feared the departure of the franchise tag option. Still an odd deal.
Still. How can you report the deal as $40 MILLION GUARANTEED?!?! If you were given a ridiculous 90% buffer for error on that figure, your report is still wrong. Terrible work by those who broke the contract numbers. |
Re: Redskins and McNabb Agree to Contract Extension
Also: McNabb sold his option to free agency for...three and a half million dollars.
I'm sure he feared the Redskins exercising the franchise tag on him, which is the only reason that he'd agree to that up front payment. But it also means that his agent thinks there's no market for him when he does hit FA, and that he'd essentially be signing somewhere for 2/12 or something. |
Re: Redskins and McNabb Agree to Contract Extension
I'm so relieved that the initial reports were wrong, that kind of takes some of the sting away from last nite
I don't, in any way, think the field conditions had any effect on slow or fast. I think it was an offense vs. defense issue.
The Eagles weren't any slower on the slick surface than they would have been on a dry one. It wasn't about speed. They were going to control that advantage no matter what.
Glad to see you say that. You usually have insightful post and your breakdowns are superb.I guess your post about the rain was lost on me in the translation:food-smil |

Give me a free agent who's available for 2011 that you'd rather have. Yes, we need to rebuild. I've said that all along. And assuming we have a shot at either of Andrew Luck or Jake Locker (remember the Skins always seem to do just well enough to put themselves out of contention for the blue-chip draft choice), it might not be until 2015 before you know if have a franchise QB. |

49ers may have something with Troy Smith -- he's been named the starter and has looked pretty good, plus they might squeeze out some more wins before its all over. Buffalo, no question will take whichever QB comes out on top. Carolina will likely have a high pick, and they'll need a QB too. |

What about giving Claussen a chance? It's only his rookie year. |
Re: Redskins and McNabb Agree to Contract Extension
Oops, you're right -- forget about Claussen. So toss out Carolina and throw in Dallas. They should be in contention... Hell, maybe even Minnesota could pick that high if things continue to go south. Arizona too...

With a strong GM like Allen (although we know what Allen MS was a package deal more or less) we could have truly go on rebuilding mode. |
Re: Redskins and McNabb Agree to Contract Extension
Just did a number crunch
I know we suck..OK..great BUT.. Did you know that McNabb is #2 in the NFL,with passes of 40+ yards or more this season? (with 9) Only behind Kyle orton who has 10. Did you know that Mcnabb has been sacked 24 times this season? Only Jay Cutler has been sacked more this season 29 times. I guess my point is...Although he's not the most accurate QB we've had,he is exceptional at hitting the big play. We have got to give him a little more time in the pocket. We have got to block better for him and he will get it done for us!! BIG deal? Great ace...that don't mean anything...those are just meaningless stats... Really? ------------------------------ 2009 McNabb had 17 plays of 40+ yards for the season (On pace for about the same) That was tied for 1st in a 3-way tie with Romo and Rodgers McNabb was also sacked a total of 35 times all season (He's on pace for 2010 to be sacked 45 times this season) In case your wondering? -------------------------------------------------------- Jason Campbell had 8 passes of 40+ yards or more last season for us...(less than half of what Mcnabb provides) He was sacked 43 times last season. (still less than what McNabb is on pace for this season 2010) 2008 ------------------------------------ McNabb had 11 passes for 40+ yards. (I think Mcnabb was injured part of this season as well) Only behind Rodgers,Brees (16) Warner & Rivers (12) and tied here with Romo with 11. (so tied for 5th to be specific) He was sacked 23 times that season Jason Campbell had 3 passes of 40+ yards or more that season. He was sacked 38 times that season. 2007 ---------------------------- Again..Mcnabb had 10 passes for 40+ yards or more Good enough for 4th that season and only behind Favre,Brady & Romo. McNabb was also sacked 44 times that season. 3rd most in the League and only behind Kitna (51) and Big ben (47) Jason Campbell had 4 passes of 40+ yards that season He was also only sacked 21 times that season In 2006..mcnabb had 14 40+ yards or more In 2005 he only had 6 40+ yards or more (I believe he was injured that season) In 2004 he had a remarkable 20 passes 40+ yards or more So you see, this guy is a big play QB. He's not going to be a 70% completion Qb...never has been. He's a big play QB who throws the ball WAYYY down the field. We need O-line to give him the time and WR's who can catch those... Then we'll be fine |
