Bulger also might be a decent veteran option but I'd like to see a rookie with a reclamation project. Either our very own John Beck or Alex Smith. Marc Bulger if they want another veteran because Palmer is going to be looking for a decent chunk of change coming off a $100 million contract, not to mention all but a guarantee to start.
I just dont trust Smith, he reminds me of Ramsey imo.. We might as well keep Rex if thats the case.

That would be an excellent pick. I hate FSU (Canes fan) but he has impressed me for 2 years now.

He has Peyton Manning-like intelligence too. I think he could figure out any system.

I still think McNabb will be back and starting. I really think this "demotion" is more about determining if Grossman is worth re-signing as a backup than it is about McNabb. Our playoff chances are shot, and Shanahan knows it's a rebuilding process, so he's getting a head start on season #2.

Locker...please no.

Re: Who Will Be The Redskins 2011 Opening Day Starting QB?

I think this is the draft for getting our quarterback. I dont think luck will fall to us with out some serious dealing, and i am not sold on locker yet, he is really hit or miss. I like Ryan Mallet a lot and same with Cam Newton. Either could make a nice upgrade day one, if we rebuild the team well. If we could trade down for mallet or locker it would be amazing.

2011 Draft
Newton/Mallet/Locker
Round 2: Best WR/ D-Lineman/ Center on the board
Other Needs: CB, RT, Fullback

Any idea what we could get for cooley? Unfortunately my thinking is that by the time we are ready to be a winning team, he is going to be past his prime, so we should look to deal him when he still has some value. I would love to keep him, but if the trade value works i'm in.
My thoughts exactly.

For the poll, I picked Locker with the hopes that we can trade back in the draft to get him and an extra pick or two.
I think you guys have to think beyond the box here. Remember, McNabb was Allen's pick, not Shanahan's. Mike went along with it because we had no other options. Now that we have seen what Donovan has done to us in most of his starts, the head coach is right in wanting to see what Rex has. I don't want to experience what the Eagle fans had to endure during McNabb's tenure.

I am not placing blame for the latter, but a coach can not be that patience with mediocrity performance from your starting QB. Thank the football gods we have finally got a coach that will call it like he sees it.

I for one think the Skins will go DT with the first pick, we don't have any pressure up front.

The 2nd pick will go towards a QB. If Rex does well in these next 2 games remaining in this season, watch for movement at the QB position.

McNabb will not be back next year. I can guarantee you that. At least, that's what Shanny told me. :cheeky-sm

I think it will be either Rex or Orton. Think about it this way, if you get Orton and he does well, after you have your draft pick ready to take over you can trade him for some draft picks or a good established player.
Oh bye the way, how is that Cutler trade working out for the Bears?
Well the Bears are 10-4, have the second seed in the NFC, and Jay Cutler has improved tremendously over last year's 27 td, 26 pick performance. I think he's got like 19 touchdowns and 12 picks right now. He's been tremendously better. So I'd say it's working out for them pretty good right about now. Both sides did pretty decent, Denver got a multitude of draft picks and Kyle Orton was tearing it up in Denver earlier this season, they're just losing a lot of games because they have no run game and no defense.

I would like to draft him. Not sure I would love it, but I would probably drink the Kool Aid on draft day. Locker is my current man crush though and I think the same goes for Shanny. One things for sure though. At this point the only QB's I want to focus on are Locker and Mallet. Luck would be my first choice but I have a better chance of marrying a billionare supermodel than we have of being in position to acquire Luck.

Newton is a spread QB with huge character concerns. Blaine Gabbert has gotten on the scene recently but he also comes from a spread system. Christian Ponder is this years "compromise pick" where people say "sure draft a QB but lets trade down and draft a guy in the 3rd round and groom him, because that always works out." Stupid Charlie Frye fans.

Not too big on Ponder either, he's decent but not a starting QB in the nfl imo

I watched him play in person this season when FSU played OU and he looked horrible, I think he had like 3 Ints or something like that.. Yes I know its just 1 game but thats a game that will stick with me if we draft him

Well to be fair he's not that bad but he's not the top of guy that you pin the hopes of a franchise on. I mean Schuab was drafted in the 4th round when the Falcons had Vick. Brady was acquired while Bledsoe was still in his prime. Cassel was drafted when the Pats had Brady and wasn't even expected to make the team. Romo was an accident that they discovered while they had Bledsoe (maybe we should sign Bledsoe).

Even the elder Shanahan's best 3rd round QB in Brian Griese was essentially a one year wonder while in Denver.

My main point is lets acquire an option thats more likely to succed before we try and "groom" a second day pick to be a franchise Quarterback. Otherwise chances are we'll end up with a QB that will encourage more groans from the fanbase than Ramsey and Campbell combined.

I wouldn't count out a player soley due to character concerns. For every Ryan Leaf, Lawrence Phillps and Maurice Clarett, you have a Warren Sapp, Randy Moss, or Dez Bryant as other examples on how some of these "character challenged" players can flurish in the NFL. I wouldn't mind taking the gamble on Cam.

I WANT KELLEN MOORE. he is the real deal and could be around in the 3rd-4th round. he stays in the film room, knows the game in and out, makes great coverage reads, and is extremely accurate. lastly, he's a winner.

I've always liked Moore BUT he doesn't play against the best talent every week, that's a big deal.. I still think he's better than guys like Ponder and Nick Foles.

Re: Who Will Be The Redskins 2011 Opening Day Starting QB?

Kellen Moore is now officially the ultimate man crush. The Cult of Colt in it's prime could only dream of the following this 6'0 man from Idaho has developed. More power to him if he succeeds but history suggest that he's probably nothing more then a really good college QB who might be a decent backup at the NFL level. Certainly not the type of guy you bring in for Plan A.

GTripp0012 12-21-2010 09:20 PM

Re: Who Will Be The Redskins 2011 Opening Day Starting QB?

Best way I can describe Kellen Moore as a pro prospect is a way the anti-Tebow draft crowd tried to paint Tim Tebow as not being a pro-quarterback. That group was underselling Tebow as a pro player, but that's actually who Kellen Moore is: he doesn't really look the part, doesn't really play in a pro offense, doesn't have the arm for the position, etc. But he completed a ton of college passes for an elite program and won a bunch of games at that level.

Moore is not going to be drafted in the first round like Tebow was, obviously, but he does a couple of things very, very well. At some point late in the draft, he'll be worth a look

I agree with your assesment GT, but the thing about Moore not having the arm is dead wrong. Whenever I have seen him on TV that kid can throw one helluva bomb like 60yds in the air mulitple times. The big beef with moore is the same thing with Colt. He didn't play anybody half decent and when he did(TCU) he got his ass handed to him. If TCU destroys Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl I won't knock on BSU so bad, but right now it is Colt and Hawaii all over again. That being said I would still pick Moore over Newton. That kid has jackass written all over his face.

Yea some say Schuab could be that surprise trade in the offseason.. I doubt they trade him honestly but I think we could look at it.
