Bills also have a lot of needs on D, they could go that way and ride it out with Fitzpatrick another year
Agreed. Fitzpatrick had very good games and against good teams. They need to shore up their d-lines and o-lines. |

Not even close skill wise. They are both tall and played a Auburn though. |

yep, JC was projected as a 2nd to 3rd round pick. |

Yep, he was a project qb. Not sure, you take a project qb in the first, much less trade up to get him. |
Re: ESPN Say's Newton To Enter Draft
I've got no problem with reaching for a guy if you're convinced he's your guy, but it sure as hell better work out.

Re: ESPN Say's Newton To Enter Draft
Mel Kiper now has us picking up Gabbert (he now has Newton going to the Bills)
Washington RedskinsRecord: 6-10* Blaine Gabbert, QB, Missouri Gabbert might be more ready than Newton to read defenses at the NFL level, and as a quarterback with very good accuracy, instincts and size, he could come into a franchise in Washington that might need him early. Gabbert is a guy whose stock rose a lot this year and will be under the microscope during the workout process. But what he doesn't give you is a quarterback who elicits a wide range of opinions or the boom-or-bust concerns many have with Newton and Ryan Mallett. |

Re: ESPN Say's Newton To Enter Draft
The more I read or hear about the QBs in this draft, the more I hope we can trade back, pick up an extra pick & reduce the risk of taking a qb. It just doesn't sound like there's anything close to a sure thing. If we do go qb at 10, I would be happy w/Newton and hope for the best.

I'm of the same thought.. My draft wish list at the QB position is: if we pick at 10-Newton only, then Kaepernick in a (or multiple) trade down or Locker or Ponder in the 2nd. I really don't want any parts of Locker but if he's there at our pick in the 2nd round then he's worth a shot based on his athleticism. I'm really hoping that we trade down a few times in this draft because its relatively deep in many positions so we need to stock up. |

Not a fan of any of the QBs currently available for the first round. DE/NT or OLB should be the selection at our current spot in terms of the talent and position of need.
I'm suddenly finding myself hoping we draft Newton.
Why the hate brah? |

Yet another reason to avoid Locker like the plague.. As much as I dislike PFT, they are quoting a reliable source..

Baseball could be an option for Jake Locker | ProFootballTalk
I saw that to. Can someone explain the $250,000 signing bonus? I can't imagine the NCAA would allow a player to sign a pro contract for baseball and then turn around and play college football. Plus it's not like he's completely disconnected from the Angels, going so far as to travel to Arizona for workouts with the Angels Minor League affiliates.
Angels general manager Tony Reagins said Locker has lived up to his obligations under the contract, which include traveling to Arizona periodically to work out at the team's minor league facility.
Either way I guess this is part of the reason that Locker was comfortable enough to pass up the $40 or $50 million he would have made in the draft was because he had baseball as a fallback option. Obviously the difference in pay is huge for now but the fact that he had options besides football had to be a contributing factor. Still I wouldn't say it's a reason to avoid Locker. Though I will admit he makes me very nervous as a pro prospect (mainly due to his accuracy issues) he's still good enough to make me jump on the bandwagon should we take him on draft day. Honestly though if I was talented enough to play both pro baseball and football I would easily choose baseball, despite the fact that my love for football is exponentially higher. Less wear and tear on the body and guaranteed contracts are a much better deal then contracts that are only 25%-35% guaranteed. Not to mention the horror stories about NFL veterans that date back as recently as the Dave Duerson tragedy. |
Re: ESPN Say's Newton To Enter Draft
Newton is a winner. Also, he is fully participating in the combine showing his competitive spirit. This guy is going to be a franchise QB within a few years. we will kick ourselves if he is there at 10 and we pass.

Re: ESPN Say's Newton To Enter Draft
Sorry guys, but this guy just told the press he is an icon and you know what that means. Unless this guy is the Lebron James of Qbing, he is doomed to fail,as this is the kindof guy the press, etc love to see take a fall. I think we need to pass on this guy, and not just for the showboating reason. We don't have the weapons for this guy to utilize yet. He might pan out to be a very good QB, but only on a team that has players of decent quality around him. By the time we do that, he might get banged up or just plain tired of DC. I still say we stick to a solid rebuilding the lines plan with the emphasis still on the O line.

Well he's young man but I agree with you, stay away from Cam IMO. |
Re: ESPN Say's Newton To Enter Draft
Hearing him calling himself an entertainer and an icon makes me very nervous about the prospect of drafting him. When he says that I'm reminded of Charles Rogers Lamborghini Living. Sure it's great that he's going to work out at the combine, but between his "father's" pay to play scheme and wowing media types at a preview of his workout. Well safe to say I feel like he's exponentially more concerned with his payday then he is having a successful career. Or put another way, I feel like his combine and media workout isn't a competitive thing/being the best player he can be type thing but rather a "if I do this I can increase my draft stock enough to get a big pay day" type motive.
I know I've been supportive of him but I can't stop picturing him having a Vegas post-draft party a la Ryan Leaf after these comments. |

To take a guy 1st overall, who's played one year in a non pro style offense, that was in shotgun 99% of the time, who's favorite play was to just run the ball up the middle is just ridiculous. |

Definitely red flags.
You want your QB to be confident but this kid is sounding flat out cocky. I don't like it. |

The 2011 QB class: They all have flaws but at least one is likely to be selected in the top ten. One or two more will probably be chosen later in the round. There is a slight possibility that all could be passed in round one while teams fill other needs. jmo\ but, I don't think there is a QB in the 2011 draft worthy of a top ten selection. |
Draft Locker
I'm wondering if Carolina will pass up on the quality QB's? they are better then the guy they drafted last yr and he really wasn't too impressive when he started. Then you have Buffalo. I keep saying I think there might be more then 1 or possibly 2 teams who might take a QB. The Redskins might be better served looking to round 2 and taking either Ponder or Dalton, especially since whoever we take most likely won't start next year anyway. Might as well get someone to develope into the system to replace Grossman. |
Re: ESPN Say's Newton To Enter Draft
Carolina's owner is a cheapskate, a #1 QB is going to cost a lot of $$ that he probably doesn't want to spend.

No way. He's not even 1st-round quality. I'm not denying he won't go in the 1st-round...but he shouldn't. |
