Yeah alcohol is a big problem, not downplaying that, but it's still not in the same league as hard drugs.
I have to second that. Never read a "marijuana overdose" story. |
Re: Was Jamie Dukes out of line on Ryan Mallett?
On the Jamie Dukes comment, I saw it live.....non-issue IMO (without going down the whole "double-standard" rathole).

When you see comparisons being made to Ryan Leaf, it's more than just a red flag. Reports have indicated Mallett never failed a drug test, so stretching his indulgence to the point of addiction would seem rare under those circumstances. To his credit he did come clean with the teams that have interviewed him though not always quite as candid with the media. He's a young man with plenty of time to straighten his life. |

I definitely agree.....The prospect of investing large sums of money into a situation that could easily go sour at any moment is a risk many GM's are just not willing to take. That fear of possible relapse is an omnipresent, the though of which is bound to have an adverse influence on his draft status. |

Re: Was Jamie Dukes out of line on Ryan Mallett?
From what I gather, the reason the Redskins got blew out in the Super Bowl, by the Raiders, is because they were partying their asses off via alcohol and cocaine most of the nights leading up to the game.
It's a helluva drug! |

Personal experience of watching a couple people struggle with addiction is not fun. Are you saying merry juana is not addictive? pretty sure there is alot of evidence out there stating it is. |

This statement is somewhat incorrect. I'm 5th year college student, majoring in Psychology. I have taken lot of classes regarding disorders including drug addictions. I have done extensive research on marijuana itself for my paper; there are some studies that claimed marijuana as an addictive drug, however there were some biases or outdated information in those articles.. While the current research with updated information claimed that the level of addiction for marijuana depends sorely on individuals. In other words, people will experience vary consequences of smoking marijuana. Edit: Don't take us wrong, Chico. We are not downgrading your experience with marijuana. It must be difficult for you to watch your friends going in rehab, as it was not fun for me to watch people going through that neither. I'm just saying that smoking marijuana does not automatically makes you to be addict to it. |
Re: Was Jamie Dukes out of line on Ryan Mallett?
I'd rather Mallet be using cocaine than weed. At least you'd know he would be wide awake for film sessions.
*drum roll* I'll be here all week folks, be sure to tip your waitress. |
Re: Was Jamie Dukes out of line on Ryan Mallett?
Mallet made some mistakes in college, like a lot of people. Maybe he was young or immature and regrets it. Thats great I wish him the best I really do. But if there were no consequences for mistakes then one of my friends wouldn’t have the herp (don’t worry its not mlmdub) and Ryan Mallet wouldn’t have lost millions of dollars in guaranteed money. There is just wayyyy too many issues to make him a first round QUARTERBACK pick in my opinion. When it comes to character concerns I want ZERO in a quarterback youre basing the franchise on by making him your first round pick.
Sure if you can get him later and not guarantee him millions of dollars then do it. But to put a young kid that made those types of mistakes in the type of situation where he can say to himself I can just f-up and party and ill still have millions of dollars is just irresponsible. Some people make fun of Jamarus Russell when in reality he or his agent deserve an espy. The guy knew what kind of person he was and what did he do? He just signed a massive guaranteed contract so he can spend the rest of his days lazying around, eating way too much and sucking down the sizzurp. He’s living HIS dream. Good for him, sucks for the irresponsible Raiders for giving him that contract and the high hopes of their fans. |

I don't think what he said was racist at all. In fact, it's plenty of people that think Ryan Mallett talks like a black guy from the hood.
I'd take Mallet over Locker, Gabbert, Newton, or Dalton.
He definitely has the arm, obviously he doesn't have the legs or a pocket presence as to how to handle pressure. He could be the next Dan Marino or he could be the next Ryan Leaf, obviously two different extremes there, but I wouldn't be surprised in I don't know 3 years or so, that we look back at this draft and say why didn't we draft Mallet?
Ryan Mallett one of the best arms I have seen in quite sometime and he's accurate with the football. I would definitely take a chance on this kid. |

Yeah most folks up here in Detroit move on to bigger and better things like crack, but I have known co workers and a few old friends that stuck with it and smoked it way too often not to be labeled anything other than being an addict. I have also known other friends that could just smoke it occasionally, but those folks are in a minority of the people that I know who smoke weed. |

Re: Was Jamie Dukes out of line on Ryan Mallett?
Define most. Because the schools I went to, I saw some of that stuff going on but for the most part, the majority weren't involved in that scene. Booze and pot were all over the place for sure, but that's a different animal.
I concur. In the dorms at Eastern Mich Univ you could usually smell weed in the hallways a few times a week, but to say most kids did it would have been an huge exaggeration. IF Mallet is indeed doing that stuff he needs to get help, etc. I hope we don't get Mallet, but that is more to do with his tendency to lose his cool in pressure situations at times and choke. |
Re: Was Jamie Dukes out of line on Ryan Mallett?
Pot is more psychologically addictive than physically. There is little to none physical withdrawal symptoms when quitting weed. Some say caffeine is harder to kick.

Re: Was Jamie Dukes out of line on Ryan Mallett?
Ryan Mallet keeps his eyes on the prize.
I am not an expert on drugs so I don't want to get to far into this. weed is known as more of a gateway drug. 80% of hard drug users started out with weed. It is a gateway drug alright, to a possible personal hell. |

It depends on what the pot is laced with. THe pot sold today is not the natural stuff necessarily the boomers smoked in the 60's-70's. |

Gateway drug lol
Maybe we should just get back on topic, this is getting redonkulous |

Yeah it's not your fathers weed, but it's not laced. Just stronger strains. |

And those same people probably tried alcohol first but that doesn't make beer a "gateway." |

Gruden Camp: Ryan Malett is on ESPN2 right now by the way, followed by Cam Newton

He's definitely NFL ready from that perspective, some of those throws especially the back shoulder stuff is big time. I liked how he broke down the play on the board, he knows what he's doing regarding protections and where his hots are, and he can read a D. He could be special if his character concerns don't become an issue. |

Im sorry but you have no clue on what you are talking about. Laced with something? The weed nowadays is kind bud which people have strained the seeds to make the weed more potent but it is nothing laced or chemical about it. Its like a seedless watermelon. The weed they smoked in the 60-70s was crap swag. Every grown folk I know that smokes holds down a steady job, has kids, etc. They just puff at night and on the weekends. |
