Wright's sermon wasn't an issue for me at all because I watched it in context. There are consequences to every action including that of a nation. Now, a lot of people take what Wright said as support for Osama and the murder of American citizens. I don't and neither did 58 million people who voted for him.


As for Bachmann, I could careless about this controversy though the irony is quite rich. I am amused that Bachmann would quit the church and try to distance herself from a church that says Catholics revere the anti-christ as their leader while trying to covet the support of catholic republicans like SS33.

I do agree with you on the irony here. I'm definitely not thrilled with Bachmann's move to leave her church. I understand why politicians do what they do, but stand up and explain your beliefs and let the American people decide (Catholic or otherwise), don't run from them.

This is very similar to Obama throwing Wright overboard.

Actually there's a big difference between Obama and Bachmann on this issue.

The media, by and large, put Obama in a tight spot and he had to publicly give account for his faith and even defended Wright not once, but twice. It wasn't until Wright kept stirring the pot in the media, following Obama's speech on race in Philly, that he had no choice but to cut ties.

Quite different from what the Bachmann's have done. She hasn't given one single interview, one statement, or explained to the American people her relationship with her former pastor and church. What she has done is sign a bunch of phony moral pledges pandering to the fringe element of the party.

I wanted to bump this to add Rick Perry to the mix. He'll probably announce this weekend. Of all the candidates, I probably know the least about this guy.

[B]Rick Perry[/B] ([I]Governor Texas[/I]) Lieutenant Governor of Texas in 1998 and assumed the governorship in December 2000 when George W. Bush resigned to become President of the United States. Perry was elected to full gubernatorial terms in 2002, 2006 and 2010.

Of the entire GOP, Governor Perry is the only candidate that is a sitting governor. That probably gives him a leg up on the rest of the field as he can discuss the pressing issues in real time; state budgets, unemployment, and immigration. Speaking of real time, two years ago this month Texas was on the other of a credit rating upgrade issued by none other than S&P, which could theoretically put Perry's economic stewardship in stark contrast to that of President Obama's, who just oversaw the first credit rating downgrade in the nation's history.

My sense is the GOP establishment is split on Perry. On one hand, he can immediately put several states into play, Texas included of course. On the other hand, well, he's from Texas. And I'm sure Democrats will be falling over themselves to remind voters of the last president that came from the state of Texas. So far Perry has already dipped his toe into the same sex marriage debate, got a little slap on the wrist from some big donors and later "refined" his position. Whoops! Happens. Candidates say things and they have to walk it back a bit.

Governor Perry has a few things going for him. He's a clear alternative to Mitt Romney. I think voters will see a big state politician with small town and folksy appeal. He even looks like the part. Governor Perry and Michele Bachmann, and to some extent Ron Paul, will appeal to the libertarian and evangelical wing of the party. The least happiest guy in the race about Perry's decision to jump in the race is Tim Pawlenty. This could possibly suck what little oxygen his campaign had left.

On paper Perry looks like the candidate the GOP has been waiting for, let's see what he has once he's on the stump.

One question to Bachmann about a comment she made concerning the bible verse about "wives being submissive to their husbands" was pretty good though. She took a LOOOONG pause before answering that one, but she recovered OK.

Yea, I saw they had the Chargers & Seahawks and wondered who the hell want to watch that. Even though its preseason there where better games to show.

I was thinking in my head that MB would get my vote, then i looked at a picture of her and SP side by side and its SP for me. I think the more fair question would be MB or SP back in their primes. MB has 8 years on SP and it shows. Im still thinking SP. Anyone know their heights?

Sarah Palin would be a fool to get in at this point. Of all the candidates she's polling the worst vs Obama and say what you will about MBach, she's on her game in these debates.

I think it'll come down to Mitt Romney or Rick Perry, both are very beatable. Most overrated and disappointing has to be Jon Huntsman. I felt he was a pretender all along. He had that deer in the headlights look the entire night.

Too much of a long shot and she's got it pretty good right now. $ 12M in 2010 + $100K per speaking engagement....or run for POTUS with less than 10% chance win a $ 400k/yr. job with ridiculous stress.

She may not be the sharpest tack, but she's no fool either.

With no drastic change in the economy (particularly unemployment) or the state of foreign affairs, either Romney/MB or Perry/MB would be a strong ticket. I'm counting on Romney and adding $ 100 to my bank account. :)

I heard David Kelly of jpmorgan compare the US debt debate and likewise economy to a fat man that needs to lose weight. A lot of people in the tea party just think you can cut spending and not raise revenues and that will right the ship. While I think we eventually need to dramatically cut spending and reduce taxes (particularly at the corporate level) you cant do it all at once after over indulging for the last 40+ years. A fat man still needs to eat, if you starve him youll end up killing him. I think Romney is the probably the most suited person of the 2 parties to lead the country into a healthier economic lifestyle through plans that are actually viable plus he will compromise when needed. Pair him up with a guy like Paul or girl like Bachmann and you plant the seeds for the Republican party to one day return to being fiscally conservative that so many have been calling for. He’s probably the smartest guy on stage and one of the most well spoken, he definitely knows more about politics then any other front runner, and he’s appealing to lot of different people. A lot of liberals like him and I see him taking votes away (a couple) from Obama, while Bachmann doesn’t take any. Evangelical Christens like him, although probably less then Bachmann. His main issues are his only issues; radical ideas like returning to the gold standard not raising the debt ceiling, although I think hes smart enough to promote these ideas I don’t think he dumb enough to employee any of them recklessly. I think his hardest sell to neo-conservatives is his foreign policy, which is why a lot of liberals like him. [/FONT][/COLOR]

Bachmann and Paul are the main 2 contenders and Bachmann is easy to make fun of, question and take serious. Paul made be hard to take serious at times but he has more conviction than anyone else and makes damn good points to all his arguments. Romney needs to team up with someone that inspires votes and energizes Republicans, because he doesn’t by himself, Bachmann and Paul are probably the only 2 that would as VP’s. Paul may steal a few votes from some liberals while Bachmann might just motivate liberals to vote against her instead of just sitting this one out since Obama sold out on them. [/FONT][/COLOR]
