Re: Yet Another QB Rumors Thread (Volume 9)
The other thing a potential trade from 6 to 2 would represent is that the Redskins think Ryan Tannehill isn't an NFL quarterback.
So like the Eli Manning trade, if the Redskins get RG3 and become relevant again and he's everything you ask for, but Tannehill also goes on to become a top 10 QB in the NFL, then that's effectively losing the trade. Because even offering that much for RG3 isn't just an evaluation on Griffin, but Tannehill as well.
well yeah, I think thats why they do the deal. They dont believe Tannehill is a ready to be a starter in the league. They look at RG3 and say he is ready. The quarterback comparison, talent vs value/draft position was the absolute first question they answered. Of course its a statement on Tannehill. If he was of equal talent and NFL ready, they would take him at 6. |
Re: Yet Another QB Rumors Thread (Volume 9)
Can't help but think the Browns have the edge if they want them. The Rams would only lose 2 spots and can still pick who they want, and they get two first round picks instead of later round picks. In my mind, Cleveland just has a better potential offer if they want him.
Also can't help but wonder - we were 5-11, and the browns were 4-12. It's fun to have trounced the SuperBowl winning NY Giants x 2 last year, but it did end up costing us several draft picks if we do this deal for RG3. |

Some people this weekend have apparently been saying, and I don't know where this is coming from, that there is a team (maybe Miami, maybe Seattle?) that is looking to move up above where the Redskins currently are to get Tannehill. I mean I guess that means the Vikings spot at #3, which seems insanely high to get RT. But if that's the case then maybe the Redskins feel they need to make this move. The danger of course is in getting fooled by a bluff. As for the Eskin rumors...he's an ass. But that's beside the point, that's not quite what I've heard (that's closer to what I'd heard to get Luck at 1) but it's certainly feasible. Been out all day, but from what I've heard some more reports of Orakpo being part of a potential deal are starting to come out. Heard we spent a lot of time with Kirk Cousins today as well. Anyone know if he ran today? If so, what was his 40? |
Re: Yet Another QB Rumors Thread (Volume 9)
Smoot, based on what you know now, what scenarios do you think are most likely for us as far as getting a qb?

Like Mayock was stating on Friday or Thursday on the radio...after last year with Locker going top 10 and Ponder and Gabbert going where they were picked, its a trend. Clubs are desperate to get a franchise QB. I wouldnt think it would be Miami, Seattle makes a ton of sense to want to do that. |

I'm told by people within Redskins they are prepared to offer picks 1,2 and 3 this year, at least a 1 next year to move up to get RG3 at 2
Smoke screen. Gotta love them. Force the Browns to give up both their #1's and more just to get him then we can trade up from round 2 to the second (late 1st) round pick and get a WR to go along with Weeden. |

Nothing new really. Had been hearing Dolphins for quite a while. Seems like others are talking about it now as well. But, like I said last night, the Redskins interest in moving up for him (and not Luck) is a minor surprise for me. So I may have been wrong about that. Have to see how it plays out. |
Re: Yet Another QB Rumors Thread (Volume 9)
Im ok with that trade... If we get a quality WR in Free Agency like VJax or Colston. As well as a quality Vetran lineman and a corner.
Redskins with Cap room= Dangerous Danny
That may be true, but does it equal Dangerous Bruce and Mike because that is who is calling the shots not the owner. |
Re: Yet Another QB Rumors Thread (Volume 9)
We need to start a Dan Marino rumor about RG3 so that teams pass him up.
If no one knows what the dan marino rumor is, it was that he had done cocaine in college. |
Re: Yet Another QB Rumors Thread (Volume 9)
If the Redskins don't get RG3 in the draft, then there's always Grossman and Beck. Perhaps Jonathan Crompton will surprise everyone in training camp and be the starter on opening day.

At this point it's all rumors but it sounded like you are stating as fact or at least that you have inside info that says that the skins are out there alone making outlandish trade offers.
Well, I feel you could have dismissed that thought when I described the price as reported by Eskin like this:
The price tag reported by Eskin doesn't seem super exorbitant to me
Describing it as the Redskins vs. time simply points out the reality that the pick wouldn't get moved before draft day if the Redskins were to abstain from being part of the discussions. If you take out the biggest player for the pick, then there simply isn't much trade interest. |

Im not too high on WRs they can come out of anywhere, most of the great wrs of all time played at unknown schools.. Jerry rice, Moss, TO etc.. I know Marshall is relevant but not really

Heres what I don't get. Why would the Rams want Orakpo? They have Quinn and Long. Are we trading him to another team to get their first rounder? If so what team? |

yeah, I'd rather give up 2 firsts a 2nd and 3rd than 1st orakpo and 2nd. What I'm about to say won't make any sense at all, but: I would only trade Orakpo for Luck, but I think Griffin might be better than Luck. |
Re: Yet Another QB Rumors Thread (Volume 9)
Right now we are all like kids before Christmas. We all want to see the presents before the big day, all these rumors are like us searching in our parents closet for them.
Everyday I flip flop on who I would like them to get as a QB and what they should do in the draft. |

Do they do nothing and hope to win this stare down with the Rams? Do they blow 20 mil of this years cap room on Manning when they really want RG3? As of now John Beck is their only QB on the roster. Maybe making the trade now costs an extra pick or two but it also saves a bunch of wasted cap dollars on unneeded contingency plans... |

I think the excitement is do to the possibility to acquire a QB with talent we havent had in a long long time. Whether its Manning, RG3 or Luck, I feel the time is now to land one of them and the possibility to do so is real. |

Right now it feels as such, I just hope its not one of those Christmases when you really wanted the new Optimus Prime Transformer but ended up getting a couple of Go-Bots. |
Re: Yet Another QB Rumors Thread (Volume 9)
I would prefer to see RG3I over Manning at this point. I want youth and someone who can be there for the long haul. Drafts are still a crap shoot but I like what RG3 brings to the table, he is talented and poised you definitely have to have that in DC. We have not had a true franchise QB in 15 years.
|
Re: Yet Another QB Rumors Thread (Volume 9)
Would hate to see Orakpo leave.
|
Re: Yet Another QB Rumors Thread (Volume 9)
What we need to happen is this
Miami signs Manning Drafts Tannehill Cleveland signs Matt Flynn The price for RG3 becomes a lot cheaper. And our chances of keeping orakpo become better. |

The thing about getting Griffin even at the 1st, 2nd, 3rd price propsed is it ironically offers the franchise a ton of flexibility. Aside from finally getting a franchise QB it gives Shanahan the QB he needs to be successful on offense it also gives the team a safety net if Shanahan fails as a coach and needs to be replaced. I mean can you guys imagine having to scrap the entire offense AGAIN? We've spent all this time looking for zone blocking lineman and one cut backs, to have to go back and replace them while looking for a QB at the same time, safe to say it would be a disaster. What I learned from Michael Vick in Atlanta (ie having an insanely athletic QB) is even if he sucks at playing QB you'll still win games. I just can't imagine a situation where RGIII fails to help us win games outside of medical reasons. |
