Re: Redskins Sign S Brandon Meriweather
Dejon Gomes and Meriweather at starting safties with Doughty being the valuable back up swing safety, plus draft a young fast centerfield type saftey and hope he can replace Meriweather later this season or next season. I think Gomes is going to be good, plus he was drafted by our team, I like the idea of having as many starters as possible being drafted by the team.
Secondary and O-line depth will be the focus of our draft and I am confident they will find some solid players. |

Anyone is better than someone that can't stay on the field. That's just common sense. |

True. At least he doesn't jaw at the person before being burned by them;) |

If you think Doughty is "burnt toast" you have not watched much of Merriweather over the last 2 seasons. |

I have no idea if he is a thug; but on the field, the only thing he does at an above average level is to make the highlight reel hit. His specialty is on third and 13 to clobber a receiver who had just caught a 14-yard pass... |

Re: Redskins Sign S Brandon Meriweather
Between Doughty, Gomes and Meriweather which player would be the primary Cover 1/3 FS and which would be the in the box SS?
In Cover 1/3 I would play Meriweather at SS and Reed at Free. |

I agree with not trusting Reed as anything but a role player....Our other options are equally as scary though. I was hoping we would give LaRon one more chance to stay healthy :( |

I still remember seeing him in his first preseason game running behind the reciever getting beat for a touchdown. Still doing the same thing. He is a best an average SS. |

Unless "have the best Redskins offense since the Norv days" counts as a plan. |

Laron has missed like 15 games over the last 2 seasons, and didnt get the surgery recommended by the medical staff. Bye bye, I know Reed is garbage, but he has been in there the past 2 seasons a lot so what's one more season of him playing. --- I am here: http://tapatalk.com/map.php?sa3fjo |

I'm sure Reed spent some time playing both FS and SS, many people forget that Reed played FS last few games of the 2010 season when LaRon was moved to SS. But, with that being said ideally it would be better if Meriweather could play the Cover 1/3 FS because of his greater speed and range. But my worry would be his lack of discipline to be the last line of defense in the run game or in the pass game. Also, I would be concerned about his knowledge of the scheme, in many defenses the FS position is the leadership role and is reponsible for communicating the w/ the MLB for coverage audibles. I guess we're all hoping that either another FS is brought on board or that Meriweather gets his head on straight and really takes ownership of the FS position which would allow Reed to play move SS. Re: Draft Which S do you like in the draft? I like Harrision Smith, Markelle Martin, Aaron Henry and Trenton Robinson |

Unless "have the best Redskins offense since the Norv days" counts as a plan.
The only plan I can see that would make sense in letting go the two best (in their prime at least) safeties on the roster is trying to get the youngest and healthiest players available. It makes sense in the long term, but could send us backtracking this season. |
Re: Redskins Sign S Brandon Meriweather
Reed Doughty should never be playing FS.
Hell he shouldn't be doing anything but special teams. |

And the results are more along the lines of trying to hold the status quo in the front seven while letting the secondary get obliterated. |

Yeah, I'm with you, but looking to the future was the only thing I could draw from their current moves in the backfield. I still think if this was their approach keeping either atogwe or preferably LaRon would have been a good idea. Oh well, let's hope by draft time it's more clear. |

The same can be said for all of our safeties, so he'll fit right in. |

Re: Redskins Sign S Brandon Meriweather
I think the plan was, anyone but Laron at safety in 2012.
|
Re: Redskins Sign S Brandon Meriweather
good Luck LL .. you were great until you refused to get the damn surgery .. wtf dude .. instead of a 1 yr $4million dollar deal he likely would have had a long term deal with the Skins' if he would simply fixed his injury.

I think in fairness too, they might've been counting on more of a FA market & more $ in FA before the NFL hit em w/penalty of $36 mil over 2 years. |

plain truth is he was being an idiot because of 1 of 2 possible reasons. One - He is scared of going under the knife. Understandable for a regular human being, not a professional athlete whose livelihood is dependant upon recovering from injuries in an expedient manner. Two - Since he is a "lifter", and probably is a very nutrition/healthy lifestyle conscious person, he figures that his body will do better undertaking a "holistic" approach. Might be good for a common cold or even the flu, but not really the preferred method for a ripped achillies tendon. Bottom line is that either his fear, stubbornness or his delusions of knowing more than the teams surgeons has cost him a very pretty penny. |

Perhaps, but they still had time to change their minds and offer him a deal. I think they made up their mind to move on from him a while ago. |
