yeah, limited risk. He's not very good this year. |
Re: 2013 Free Agents
My friend did research on the top defenses on the league. We should only have 2-4 free agents on our defense total. And they should mostly be role players, possibly one star free agent. 7-9 players should be drafted on our team. Rogers-Cromatie, Gholdson and Bryd are players we should target but only one of these players. We should rebuild our defense through the draft. Carriker and two more free agents should all we need. We should blow up the secondary and rebuild it with one veteran and young players. Will struggle at first but will be a lot better in the long run, similar to the Seahawks and how they built their secondary.
Kind of happy about that. Would have given me another DB that I couldn't stand on the Skins (I'm looking at you Deion). I'm a Skins fan first, but damn if I would cheer for Deion or Finnegan if he was here.
A Finnegan/Hall tandem would've been magical. No receiver would leave a game un-annoyed... |
Re: 2013 Free Agents
I'm still not sure what to think of DaShon Goldson, an upcoming Free Agent FS who has been an all-pro since Harbaugh got to SF, but prior was just ok/good.
Is he a system guy? Or is he really that good? Is he someone who will demand a huge contract and not play as well? Is he only a big hitter, but can't cover or catch the ball? Definitely someone to keep your eye on come 2013 Free Agency [YT]TXq0Bh-N7nI[/YT] |

goldson is at the top of my wish list

Or would you rather have Byrd from Buffalo who is 'better' in coverage? |
Re: 2013 Free Agents
i like branch from oakland better than him, and i would like to draft a safety and take tony jefferson out of oklahoma, he plays very viciously and is always around the ball and good tackler. i really think just upgrading safety alone will make a big difference for us

Tyvon Branch is NOT going to be a Free Agent. He got resigned to a 5 year deal before the season started. And Yes you need to draft, but with no first rounder, it really limits what we can do and lets be honest, BA and MS have been getting good Free Agents for us the past couple of years, I don't see us stopping that trend. Tony Jefferson is a good safety, but I prefer you watch Matt Elam of Florida or Robert Lester of Alabama, both those guys are great and also always around the football. OU safeties are questionable. Who was the last OU who actually panned out. I don't think you can say Roy Williams was a great pro, because he was EXposed like not other after his 3rd year. |

I like Elam as well but a little undersized havent sen Lester play. I just love the agression Jefferson plays with, he plays mad almost. I dont believe in history of schools producing players, I feel every guy is different. How many quarterbacks out of Baylor panned out? |

I'm not answering that question, not because I don't know the answer, but because of how few games he's played. I want to keep this as FA only. |
Re: 2013 Free Agents
haha i didnt want you to either, but as long as you get my point

Re: 2013 Free Agents
So Talib goes to NE for a 4th rounder...the likely hood of them re-signing him depends obviously on his play and if he can not get into trouble.
More than likely, I think we can cross him off our FA list now.. |
Re: 2013 Free Agents
I'm glad we didn't give a 4th-rounder for Talib.
He's a ticking time bomb. Wasted talent. When on the field and behaving, he's a great player...but he can't stay out of trouble. Imagine him and Hall on the field...the fights they'd get in...the suspensions they'd rack up. He's not the answer. We need someone who can stay on the field and going forwward we need to be very careful with our draft picks. With no 1st-round pick next year, a 4th becomes more valuable to us. Talib is still serving a suspension and we've already taken our chance on a troubled player in Tanard Jackson and lost that roster spot and money. Lets not make that same mistake again, while giving up even more for him. |
Re: 2013 Free Agents
glad we passed on talib as well.
really hoping we'll be able to lure albert haynesworth here, he should give our d the boost it needs |
Re: 2013 Free Agents
I'll take Was Welker to move the chains and help that defense stay off the field. Then I would tunnel vision on the defense. Secondary especially and maybe a linebacker for depth with London fletcher tutelage or to start. 2nd, 3rd, and 4th round picks would be nothing but CB and safety. I might even trade down if there is talented depth there and maybe get a 3rd down rush specialist. If we can find 3 gems in the secondary and Wes Welker. Lookout playoffs.

forgot about jammal brown, any cap space created next year by cutting him?

Re: 2013 Free Agents
forgot about jammal brown, any cap space created next year by cutting him?
He had about $4.533mil in guaranteed money left coming into 2012. We're paying it all this season so we're not on the hook for any money after 2012 and we can then cut him without a cap hit. 2012 = $4.553mil against cap, still counts $1.1mil in cap space this year if we cut him in 2012, but the remaining $3.4mil would count against us in 2013. Basically, we're keeping him and paying him this season to minimize the cap hit in the 2013 season that's missing another $18mil from Mara/Goodell. If we released him now, it would mean we have less to spend next offseason, so we're getting it out of the way now with a slim chance he could get on the field in 2012. No matter what we do with him, we still have to pay him the remaining $4.553 in guaranteed money...so we're doing it now and just getting this bad contract over with. The right decision. We need as much cap space as we can find next year, so cutting him now would hurt us a lot more than waiting in that plan. |

As much as I would like it, there is no way we could afford to have 2 high priced tackles. Just simply no way around it and not suffer in other areas of need. Also, no way they'll let him go with Manning there. |

Yeah, I mentioned him as a FA, but Money and Manning (and 0 sacks allowed so far) means he's not going anywhere, which is why I posted this. |

What skins cap space right now for offseason?

I have a feeling we will go to a 4-3 next yr
I have a feeling we will go to a 4-3 next yr
the type of defense we have isn't the problem its the coaching and personnel thats the problem EDIT And by personnel I mean depth and secondary which 4-3 3-4 won't matter the secondary is always 4 starters and our 4 starters suck |

Re: 2013 Free Agents
Considering Shanahan officially gave up on the 2012 in the post game preset by saying he's looking to 2013 and using the rest of this season to "evaluate players," I think you have to fire him. You can't have a head coach publically announce he's giving up on the season half way through the year

Anyone have a cap space estimate, will the cap number go up or down at all?

Re: 2013 Free Agents
Dorsey has a good chance of being released from the chiefs. Another possible free agent. Though he is being released cause of injury concerns and the chiefs drafted him to play in a 4-3 but he is playing in a 3-4. They don't feel that is his best fit and would rather let him go
