Re: Should Billy Cundiff still be cut!
Another name I forgot is out there is Ryan Longwell. He'd be worth a try. Also John Kasay is accurate, just doesn't have the long distance kick/kickoffs anymore.

Thanks...I just changed it about an hour ago... I didn't think anyone would notice that quickly. |
Re: Should Billy Cundiff still be cut!
I will find it hard to believe that none of these other kickers will be an upgrade to Cundiff, so I'm hoping tomorrow is a good day for these guys. The Kai guy sounds interesting, plus he's young.
My Ravens friends are giving me a hard time about Cundiff and rightfully so..I hope we ditch this guy quickly! |

Re: Should Billy Cundiff still be cut!
There was no justifiable reason for them to cut Gano. The season hadn't even started yet before his release in favor of Cundiff.

Gano was near the bottom of the league in FG % the past couple of seasons, so there certainly was a reason to look for an upgrade. Unfortunately they didn't find it in Cundiff.

to paraphrase slj from juice: just because you pour syrup on shit, don't make it pancakes
Graham Gano is a free agent. They should be begging for him to come back. Mike Shanahan has no one else to blame for Cundiff's inconsistencies other than himself. To hand him the kicking job so freely after Gano had won it matter-of-factly was a big time lapse in judgement. Shanahan should have known better. |

Mattyk, I hear you loud and clear. Gano's biggest problem was consistency. But he made most of his FGs last season; not counting the one's that were blocked by the opposing special teams that our special teams unit failed to block. Still, this was a new year. Shanahan can cut and sign whoever he wants. But Gano never truly lost the job and Cundiff never truly won it either. |

Gano is a 73% kicker for his career. He truly lost the job, sorry. |

He truly lost the job, sorry.
look at the start of someone like morten andersen's career, he was worse than 73% through his first 3 seasons. he ended up having a whopper of a career. food for thought |
Re: Should Billy Cundiff still be cut!
Gano is a 73% kicker for his career.
He truly lost the job, sorry.
He lost the job but not through competition like it should have been. You point out Gano's lowly field goal percentage, but the man made a 59 yard kick last season and Cundiff couldn't make a 57 yard kick 8 days ago against the Bucs. Mike Shanahan erred in his decision to cut Gano and to sign Cundiff. Both of those choices were poor in my estimation. |

Anyone heard the Skins had planned to work Gano out tomorrow but changed their mind after speaking with him?
Guess he didn't want to come back. |

Connor Barth's won the job over him. Edit : Just saw a rumor that he's one that the Redskins are trying out? Would be awesome.
Sold! This is not our super bowl run year so lets try and solve the kicker problem long term instead of settling for a retread. If we were a contender I would be more in favor of a guy like Brown. |

Re: Should Billy Cundiff still be cut!
For the umpteenth time, why are you guys so high on Gano? Shanny says Gano outperformed Rackers in practice but I cant find final stats. Last article I could find that listed how many they made Rackers was 28-33 and Gano was 26-33 in training camp
Coach Mike Shanahan said Gano ''won the statistical battle in practice'' and that the 25-year-old kicker gets ''undue criticism'' because the blocks last season weren't the kicker's fault. Rackers arrived with a strong pedigree. The 36-year-old kicker has played for the Cincinnati Bengals, Atlanta Falcons and Houston Texans over 12 seasons, and his 88.2 field goal percentage over the last three years is third best in the NFL over that span. The Redskins signed him as a free agent when he couldn't reach a new deal with the Texans. Gano, who joined the Redskins late in 2009, has a percentage of 73.8 over the same time period, second-worst in the league. He's also 5 for 8 on game-tying and game-winning field goals in the final two minutes of a game or in overtime, with all three misses coming from 47 yards or more. Those are the kicks that really matter - according to the advice Gano received last week when he met Mark Moseley, the only kicker ever to win league MVP. Gano sat with the former Washington kicker's family at the Redskins Welcome Home Luncheon. |
I'm not high on Gano at all. I cringe every time we have to kick a fg and I'm even holding my breath on pat's.

I think it's pretty evident that Gano's only true believer at Redskins Park is Danny Smith, and maybe Gano doesn't want to subject himself to a tryout only to walk away without a contract. Maybe he feels like if he's got to go back there it better be guaranteed he's got the job. Or else he'll just wait |

Re: Should Billy Cundiff still be cut!
Why is Cundiff still on the team?
Cut him now. If somehow you can't get a kicker this week, have Lorenzo Alexander handle kickoffs. And if it's 4th down and we don't want to punt, go for it with Alfred Morris or a long pass. :cheeky-sm |

And another kicker that couldn't beat out Gano lighting it up for texans
Graham stunk it up for us last yr Has there ever been a kicker that left the skins and didn't get a job somewhere else? Gano doesn't count Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Chris Russell and rich tandler have both been on espn980 and essentially said shanahan got rid of gano because he was openly religious and it put a lot of players off. |

I agree with this. While its turned out horribly. I still think it was the right move at the time. Hard to predict that miss in the playoffs would give cub diff the yips. |
