And not buying the.."we didn't have any tape of their offense"...um did the coaches watch Oregon at all?
So you are telling me that was the exact same plays and offense he had at Oregon? No variation whatsoever? If so, it nullifies your statement.

The concepts were there, Fletcher said it wasn't anything they haven't seen before. I'm not buying that as an excuse. We simply didn't tackle well and blew too many assignments.

Yup. My seats are right next to the visitors tunnel in the corner of the endzone. Skins fans started leaving at halftime!! Eagles fans started to pour down to get closer to the action and see the Eagles at the end. Even Marcus Vick was there, it made me sick!

Three turnovers, a safety, a QB with a 22.1 rating at the half.......and somehow it's Shanahan who's being out-coached. :hater:

Not pointing any fingers won't do it. It was a team effort just won't point a finger at any individual. We win and lose as a team.

If you mean improvement by Biggers and Rambo, I'm not sold. I just think they're both poor open field tacklers. I doubt that we'll see much better tackling at the safety positions until we have Brandon Meriweather and Tanard Jackson back. That is if we get one or both of them back. The earliest I'm expecting to see much improved safety play is after the Redskins' bye week. I'd like to be wrong about that.

Pretty much...what they ran looked like Oregon and the tempo did too....even one of the players said they didn't run anything they didn't see on film. Haslett waited too long to start coming after Vick. And their D coordinator pretty much had no respect for our offense or our passing game. Last night, they were the better team, no excuses.

Just wanted too add my post game thoughts, still trying to read through the whole thread. So I'm probably repeating what others have said.

1. Alot of missed tackles, reminded me of watching the Giants Sunday night.

2. RG3 gonna be fine, but hopefully a little bit humbled from last night.

3. Pass protection still is an issue, we struggled last year at times, we are only middle of the pack in this area.

4. Still need a receiver with great hands, when the QB isn't super sharp. I don't feel like we have this guy on the roster yet.

5. Can Vick really take that many hits? Seems like minimum pass protection most of those plays.
Yeah that's why I'm questioning whether they can hold up all year at that pace. More plays = more possibilities of injuries, and Chip's pass pro schemes seems to leave the QB open for some big hits. Once there's more tape on this offense I think defenses are going to blitz more and more.
we hit vick a bunch and how many sacks did we have? 4? and thats with RAK getting 0

So wish we had got Boldin probably impossible considering our cap number but he just been awesome for Bob.

I am not willing to throw Shanahan under the bus completely. It's just one game. And MS certainly has turned our franchise around.

That said, all of the missed assignments, missed tackles, and lack-of-concentration plays indicate that the team was not mentally ready. That is a coaching failure. On this note, he was outcoached.

Given that the season is long, and it is better to look good in December than in September, perhaps Shanny was just going easy on folks week one, thus resulting in our embarrassing showing.

Yeah, I can't give any passes on missed tackles. That has nothing to do with scheme. That's just basic football.

I'm a little pissed. I saw D. Hall, Garcon, Merriweather, and Fred Davis boozing it up around 11 pm Sunday night in Arlington. And it seems that 3 of those 4 didn't show up to the game on Monday. I thought players had curfews.

only in camp i believe and all players do this man.

hooskins 09-10-2013 12:05 PM

I'm sure people have mentioned it, but it's unfair to put that false start squarely on TW. The clock management wasn't the greatest on the drive. We burned a TO and the clock ran down to 01 a few times.

Is that because rg3 is "rusty" (btw getting to be the favorite term of the week, along with "fast paced") or the plays not getting in on time? Maybe a little bit of everything.

Re: Skins v Eagles post game thread

My take on the game? The Eagles looked impressive early, but I'm not convinced they can maintain that level of tempo and run that many plays in each game throughout the season. Much longer season, much better athletes on defense. They didn't look too impressive in the second half, and I'm not convinced Kelly dialed back the offense.

Griffin is fine. I enjoyed watching him play in the second half. He was back to being RGIII. I think what helped the most? Having to be in a two minute offense and taking a few good hits. This game is going to be a positive for Griffin down the road. Guarantee he plays a much better, more complete game against Green Bay.

Alfred was a little slow to get going - seems like the right side was just not opening running lanes for Morris. He had his best success running behind Trent. Morris has got to hold onto the ball though.

I think our wide receivers will be OK. I think we have a solid group at Wide out. I think Hankerson played pretty well, and I think it's just a matter of time before Garcon has a monster game. I'm not worried about the receivers.

I am mostly worried about the secondary - but I was last year as well. Mostly, because we have some rookies who just have to go out and play. They have to develop, so we're going to be taking our lumps this season with them. But, they'll improve.

All in all, let's not get too upset over this game. Yes, nobody expected this to happen, but it did. I still think this team is solid and has the potential to not only get back into the playoffs, but to go deep in the playoffs this year. Much rather this happen in game one than game sixteen!

Sorry Skip but that's BS.

That wouldn't have helped with the other miscues, like the fumbles, tackling, blocking, etc. It was team effort.

Griffin's comments after the game were spot on: "On offense we had a case of the 'can't get rights'. I don't throw picks, Alf doesn't fumble and Kai doesn't miss kicks. All three of those things happened."

I got you all set up for next week!

Brothers and Sisters! Today is the day in which our team rides forth and breaks through the bonds that have held it back ... the bright lights of Lambeau Field will burn away our disappointment of years past, shine brilliantly upon the team's accomplishments, and light the way through the season!

Yay, though we have walked through the valley of disappointment lo these many years, now is the time of our team's rebirth! Let your joy ring forth! Shout out your faith in RGIII, Trent, Morris, Fletcher, Orakpo, Shanahan & the rest of these warriors of the grid iron ... no more shall we reside at the bottom of power polls, no more shall others mock or success as fleeting, no more must we rend our garments with the expectation of loss!

Though long suffering, we shall be rewarded by our faith! Henceforth we shall expect to win, our team will find new and innovative ways to maintain our faith and succor our thirst for success. Our voices will be free to shout our team's successes and to expect more!

Be thankful and rejoice ... today is a new day and the dawn of a new era. Our fanaticism will be reborn, our faith restored. Drink in the joy, relish the ecstasy, let the waves of victory roll over and through you as you proclaim the power of our team!

Hallelujah my brothers and sisters! A new day is upon us. A new future awaits. Rejoice!!

My chest tightened up after Robert took that hit and reached for his knee. Was very gimpy getting up, but he eventually played "through it" and the Skins rallied. Still not convinced that he's 100%, but he's pretty darn close and as Skinsguy said, he'll look sharper and perhaps move around better vs. Green Bay.

It's one game. It's a long, long season. Still think this team is on the right track. The Eagles jumped on us early because of turnovers, yet somehow we managed to make a game of it.

Re: Skins v Eagles post game thread

Well, a bit of a depressing start to the season -- getting crushed in the first half at home by a division rival on national TV. We rallied and made a game of it, but lots of things have to be corrected. it is a long season, and every year, we win one I think we're not likely to win, and lose at least one that I would have predicted a W -- let's hope that defines our first two weeks and that we pick up a W in Green Bay.

I thought Perry Riley was outstanding -- he and Kerrigan were really strong; Fletch and Rak were pretty quiet and that is a little disconcerting. To me, the biggest positive was Riley's play -- he was everywhere. Hankerson looked solid as well, and I thought Moss was his reliable self as well. Some positives to build upon, but we need to do it soon. Green Bay is going to be a challenge; we ought to beat the Raiders, and then we also have Detroit before the bye and they really did a number of the Vikings (even holding AP to a very modest rushing total). We really have to get two wins before the bye somehow -- we cannot dig ourselves a hole like we did last year, and the bye is so early that we won't have any time to regroup as the season wears on.

Re: Skins v Eagles post game thread

I put OTHER because it was all the above and then some. Not that they have to go back to the drawing board or anything. If they can clean up some things during the week, have a better defensive game plan in place for a "more familiar" GB offense, I would expect to come home with a hard fought W next week.

It was encouraging to see the Defense make the necessary adjustments to slow down that Philly offense, and it was encouraging to see the offense clean up their act as the game progressed. Unfortunately the early mistakes and miscues put us in too deep a hole to overcome.

Still a chance to go 3-1 for the first quarter of the season...

Seriously though there were to many mistakes in the first half, and they didn't get the offense fired up until the 4th quarter.

IF III played in preseason and was injured we would have tarred and feathered Shanny. Its week one, 15 to go and the NFC East is up for grabs. I still believe it is our division.

One positive note that I haven't seen discussed much is I thought Amerson played a quality game. Looks like he will be a good corner in the NFL.
