Oh to trip back on memory lane. I still wish after Gibbs retiring we made G Williams HC and Saunders asst HC offense and let him run the offense exclusively, choosing who starts between JC and Todd Collins.
Maybe not a long term solution with Vinny still in the picture but I would put that coaching staff against anything we've had since.
yeah and we would have been the bounty gate team. |

I think it's super naive to think G Williams is the only or eve last coach to do it. But whatever. People love bandwagons. |
At least our D would have been hitting people. Now they are borderline matadors.

D would be legitimate top 10 and offense wouldn't be far behind. Collins and Saunders tore it up for the 2nd of the '07 season. If it wasn't for a million dropped passes and Rogers hoofs in the Seattle playoff game that team had a high ceiling. If there was a strong argument for continuity, it was '07-'08. Can't say the same about today on any level. That says a lot. Lol |

Re: Worst Mistake of the Shanahan Era
It's hard to argue the point about changing the defense. It is obvious that hasn't worked out at all.
I would say a close second is bringing in his son to be the OC. I can understand why he did it as a father, but not as the head coach... So if you believe that bringing in Kyle was a mistake, then it can be argued that he has made poor decisions with all three coordinators: Offense, Defense and Special Teams... |

Lol
Just because I'm a stickler for these playoff games (which I think we both should have won) 2005 was when Rogers dropped that pick 6, which would have put us up 10-0 early. 2007 we were down 13-0, scored real quick twice in the 4th quarter to go up 14-13, then they screwed up that kickoff; and Sean (FN!) Suisham missed a extra point length field goal which I'm still angry about to this day; lost all momentum and we some how lost by 21, 35-14 in a game that was way closer than that score would indicate. 2012 was when we set this franchise back 3 years. |
Re: Worst Mistake of the Shanahan Era
Cofield is the problem? Really?
IMO he is part of the problem as he would be better suited to play DE in the 3-4 and would allow for a true monster space eating NT, which he is not . . . |
Depends on what type of 3-4 you want. Not everyone has a monster in the middle.
|
Re: Worst Mistake of the Shanahan Era
Cofied doesn't move both on run plays or pass plays.
He might not crash the pocket but few nose tackles do, if any. The skins need some DE's and depth at OLB to get pressure. Still not sure why the Skins only really show Orakpo, Kerrigan and sometimes Rob Jackson. I thought going into the season there was some good depth there but maybe they haven't been showing enough in practice. |

That's probably true. Not sure how much that factored into Dan passing up Williams tho. Sounded like there was a strong personality clash there if memory serves. |

Just to be fair He didnt "drop" them, there was a chemical reaction between the pigskin and the stone causing an involuntary release of the ball. |

To be clear, Vinny passed up Williams. Not Dan. Dan put complete control in the hands of Cerrato. Cerrato felt threatened by a big personality like Williams-who, granted, probably shouldn't have asked to be named GM/EVP too-and sent him on his way. |

Grilliams and Al Saunders weren't exactly best friends either were they? Ah the good ol days, not much has changed... http://www.thewarpath.net/redskins-locker-room/15683-fire-gregg-williams-and-al-saunders.html |

It seems that when fans have b*tchy vendettas against certain people, they love to change history to make their point and "win" with their arguments. It would not surprise me if we start hearing someone say "Vinny wasn't that bad". |

For some reason I remember it seemed unlikely Saunders would be around if GW got the HC gig. Who knows. |

Wow! Had no idea Williams wanted GM/EVP. And I agree he didn't deserve it. |

I never heard from anyone I trust that that was true. As far as the title, I don't fault Williams for asking for it. But I think even without that request, Vinny was just too intimidated by him to have him around |

Not sure about Head Coach for ol' Grilliams. Something about his personality tells me that making him a HC here would just a trainwreck. Guy is a great motivator and defensive schemer but I doubt his ability to lead an entire team. Maybe the suspension has humbled him and I'm wrong but I for sure wouldn't be opposed to him as our DC again. Seems like the last time we had a nasty defense was in 2005 or 2007 when he was here. |

With Williams as HC you find an OC, which seems easier. |
Re: Worst Mistake of the Shanahan Era
Worst mistake of shanahan era is shanahan being in this era or procreating an offspring and naming it Kyle.
|
Re: Worst Mistake of the Shanahan Era
I would expect that Kyle has a job sooner than Mike. For all of folks griping, he creates opportunities for players. The players failure to execute by doing dumb mistakes (jumping offsides, drops and bad reads) is, in part, a coaching failure but, to me, those mistakes are "the buck stops here" types that fall on the head coach.
Many castigate Kyle, and he has had some "What da f***??" moments, but, generally, he has given players the opportunities to excel. The fact that the players have failed to take the opportunity to do so is on the players and the head coach. |
Re: Worst Mistake of the Shanahan Era
Worst mistake of the Shanahan era? Leaking stories to the media to save his ass and deflect blame. We can't get rid of this guy soon enough.
