Re: 2014 draft prospects Early edition
Whatever....we need a lot more Trents (or alt least someone that plays like 80% Trent) or we cant put enough points on the board.
If our coaching staff cant see that then I'll be banging my dick against the wall for a couple more years. |
Re: 2014 draft prospects Early edition
I think we will get a whole new Right side of the OLine in free agency, with rookies and montgomery, lichensteiger and gettis, lerib fighting for the center and left guard spot.

The decision to get him is over and done. If he wins a SB is anyone going to look back and say it wasn't worth it?
If Griffin wins a Super Bowl, we'll look back at the point at which the franchise turned around. That point has not come yet. |
Maybe I am stupid, but how can you not justify the decision on both sides as being good??
You're not being stupid, but you are being a homer.
Going 3-13 two years after a trade is never part of a well designed plan. If you think the team is ready and needs to add a more dynamic player at the quarterback, that's one thing. But if you acquire that player and the team ends up posting the worst season in 40 years, you can't pretend the trade was smart. The Redskins undeniably set themselves back. Obviously the prudent thing to do now is to take Griffin and make him part of the solution. But the decision making process has to change. Getting rid of Shanahan was a nice first step. But you also have to stop doing the things Mike Shanahan would do, and the Redskins don't seem particularly interested in changing their ways. Meanwhile, Griffin is just kind of stuck here, contractually. He needs more help to win, but he can't get help from say, the second overall pick in this draft because they traded it for him. |

I'm going to go ahead and say that this is ridiculous. I don't know how anyone could say, with a straight face, that Carr is a better QB than Manziel. I bashed Manziel once in a college football thread on here, but my thinking has since changed. I believe he's going to be a great QB, while Carr, to me, just screams bust. Perhaps my thinking is wrong. But if I'm Jacksonville, Houston, Oakland, or Cleveland, I take Manziel over Carr 100 out of 100 times. |

And the coach's son who thought using that franchise QB as a wide receiver was a good idea to try? The complete collapse of both Shanahans' ability to coach at a pro level wasn't part of the plan, but it happened and it's been corrected. Now, we're back on the right track and to regret having our first franchise QB in 3 decades of not one of our problems. Now, we need to build a good team around him and I have faith that we will. The offensive line is the first step, or should be. |
Re: 2014 draft prospects Early edition
Does anyone know why we would not get a compensatory pic for our Lorenzo Alexander that went to the cardinals. Did his contract void or something that made him technically not a free agent. Or was it just not a large enough deal.

Re: 2014 draft prospects Early edition
We signed Biggers which may have negated losing him and this not getting a pick.
We have had this discussion before and it comes back to players lost and signed. |
Re: 2014 draft prospects Early edition
Yeah our losses somehow did not outweigh the additions. It's based on some unknown formula. Who knows.
|
Re: 2014 draft prospects Early edition
I thought Biggars was a minimum contract for the most part. I still think we will get a 7th round pick for Lorenzo.

I agree 100%, the question is if he should be a high 2nd round pick CBS Sports has Reynolds in the 3rd or 4th round, so does The Sports Exchange ............................................................................................. Ward is a good safety, the question is strong or free .... I watched him twice, great instincts..... play maker S Brooks of FSU..... meh S Deone Buchannon Washington State looks good too,but is probably a SS......he is : 6'1' 211 4.49 / BP 19 reps ..... 2013 stats 109 tackles 5 interceptions |
Re: 2014 draft prospects Early edition
Maybe this guy will drop... supposed to be the second best tackle in the draft, might be a steal in the second.

Or... He moved back twice. That sim offers to many picks for trades. You are almost always better off trading back in the early rounds in that sim since you can pick up so many picks. |

trading Cousins would be foolish, bad back-up QBs are getting $3 -$4 million a year Ryan Fitzpatrick just got $7.5 for 2 years |

traded our original 2nd rounder to Miami for a later 2nd rounder + 3rd and 4th then traded a pick to TB for a pick (not sure exactly just did what was presented to me via simulator)

We did that in Free Agency. I wouldn't be surprised if we took one lineman, and, in fact, I would support taking a RT/RG early. But it seems like our FO really worked on improving the lines already. While keeping BPA in mind, of course, I hope our draft looks something like this: 2nd: WR - Brandin Cooks, Jordan Matthews, or maybe Kelvin Benjamin if his hands aren't seen as too much of a downside 3rd: OT - Billy Turner, Juwaun James 4th: S - Ed Reynolds, Dion Bailey 5th: WR - TJ Jones, Brandon Coleman, Kevin Norwood 6th: RB/KR/PR - Dri Archer, De'Anthony Thomas 7th: P or DL - Pat O'Donnell(P), Jay Bromley(DT), Kerry Hyder(DT) |

We signed a new starter at LG, moved Lichensteiger to C, tried to sign Bruce Campbell but didn't after he failed the physical, and hosted several other Free Agent O-linemen. We didn't just sign Lavuao and say, "Okay, we're done with the O-line now! Next!" Also, don't forget that we have several young O-linemen on the roster who got very little playing time under Shanahan: Gettis, Compton, and LeRibeus. So to me, it seems like our FO is trying to address the position through Free Agency and developing the talent already on the roster, rather than drafting a bunch of OL and forcing the young undeveloped talent out. Edit: And an obvious point that I didn't include, but decided to after all. Free Agency isn't over yet; there's still plenty of time and FAs left to improve the line. |

LeRibius was a mid round pick who was not rated highly by many, if any other team. |
