Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach (Volume 2)
I know this is an impossibility, but I believe the best thing Snyder could do for the longterm health of this organization is to keep Shanahan until his contract ends. The choice to actually patch-up a relationship rather than terminate it would certainly change the attitude about the organization that outsiders have. It would enable the Skins to attract better coaching options. It would promote a sense of elasticity and autonomy within the organization. Organizations are like relationships: strong ones don't avoid conflict, they handle it. They don't allow conflict to destroy relationships, they use conflict management strategies to strengthen relationships.

Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach (Volume 2)
I want to throw this out there even though I think its crazy but the feeling in Pittsburgh is that Mike Tomlin is gone after the season. What would you feel about him as coach?
|
I don't see them letting tomlin go , he's a winner and Pitt never changes coaches that fast

That's what I said as well but that's the word around there. Pittsburgh is tired of him and he is gone. I don't believe it either but if its true I think I would take him in a minute. |

Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach (Volume 2)
I retract my early vote for Shanahan.
Now that he's blatantly acting in the best interests of the team to screw with Snyder...forget him. I had previously held to the idea of seeing what he could do with a full salary cap...well you've burned that bridge, Mike. Please leave. I'm not sold on Briles. I'm not sold on Chip Kelly's recent streak of success. This division's weakness is the only reason they're sitting on top right now and I do not believe he'll have long-term success...so trying to replicate what Philadelphia is doing is not the right move. The only reason to bring in Briles is to make Griffin's job easier, but I also think that would hold him back from developing into the pro QB he needs to become for a long career. I've always liked Jon Gruden but I'm not sure I trust him after his recent comments that Cousins should be playing. I still maintain the best thing for Robert right now is reps. Bill O'Brien is intriguing. I am stuck here in the middle of Paterno country and I really thought Penn State would be really harmed by the NCAA sanctions and reduced scholarships. O'Brien has done an incredible job with the team who was playing at a competitive disadvantage, something Shanahan could not do wit the salary cap penalty. He also has pro experience with Belichick, which is invaluable. Jay Gruden is an outstanding choice, but I also think we need to bring in a defensive-minded coach like Lovie Smith. I'm fine with Jay as HC if we can bring in a top defensive coordinator. I don't know if Lovie would settle for a DC job with other teams like Houston probably pursuing him for a top job, but landing both Jay Gruden as HC and Lovie Smith as DC would be the best possible scenario to me. Ken Wisenhunt could be a good choice. I'd trust Singletary as a DC, but not HC. Sumlin could be a good choice to help develop Griffin into a pro QB. Aaron Kromer has had great sucess at building offensive lines, which is one of our greatest needs. I'll rank my new choices: Lovie Smith Jay Gruden Bill O'Brien Ken Wisenhunt Kevin Sumlin Aaron Kromer Darrell Bevell |

I've heard rumors that he's a candidate for the Texas Longhorns. I don't think that rumor would start without one about him losing his Pittsburgh job. |
Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach (Volume 2)
Jeff Tedford would also be a great choice

Couple of names to think about-Tag Ribary and Duke Tobin
SS, after the past events of this very embarressing week including a direct shot yesterday "Dan doesnt care about the other positions", are the odds pretty much Shanny doesnt return? To be fair he later clarified:
Shanahan also said: “That’s what you do about a quarterback. He’s your franchise. That’s why you ask those questions. You don’t do it about the other positions. Dan could care less about the other positions: ‘Hey, that’s why you coach. That’s why I own.’ I understand that. That’s not a problem. But I do ask it about a quarterback because we’re gonna have a circus atmosphere any time you make a decision like that.” Shanahan later clarified that remark in a conference call with Atlanta reporters, saying any owner would be concerned about a decision regarding the quarterback and Snyder leaves all football-related decisions solely to him about players at other positions. Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach (Volume 2)
I would love to have Jay Gruden as our HC. But how interested is he in coaching the Redskins? And also, is he interested in the Texans' job? Because if it comes down to a decision between the Redskins or Texans, I can't see anyone choosing us. Houston is in a prime position for a young head coach.
|
Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach (Volume 2)
He's interested. But if the Titans job opens up, that's probably his top choice

Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach (Volume 2)
Not trying to be a dick but what is the appeal of Jay Gruden?
I don't know much about him and Cincinnati isn't doing anything offensively that says genius. They are 10th on offense with a lot of talent and we are 9th. He's never had a top 10 offense. Is he just the next Gruden? |

What about Todd Bowles? Former Redskin, knows and respects our history, well respected coach. I wouldn't mind seeing him at least get an interview.

I would love Bowles and said previously he is my pick but I don't think he has enough experience as a coordinator to jump into a HC job. My pick for the moment would be Lovie Smith or Shaw. Lovie has a proven track record and winning record. Shaw has extensive NFL experience and proven college HC experience. |

I think what Gruden's doing with Dalton more falls under the umbrella of managing a quarterback rather than developing him -- you'd rather have the QB developer -- but either is a better approach than what we have going on here.

Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach (Volume 2)
Who cares, the team is going to still suck!!!!!! The present roster is medicore, and will take 3 seasons to remedy that, and that is if the front office has a solid plan that it can actually get done in terms of getting the pieces in place. The other big issue is that this whole debacle proves and what the Marty debacle proved is that you can't have a strong willed coach work with Snyder or Danny boy will undermine him or just fire his ass. Danny helped create the monster diva in RG III, and any new coach is going to have to kiss RG IIIs ass. Do you think Bill Cowher would want to be a part of this organization knowing full well of how it is run? I don't want a college coach, just because he coached our diva in a college system in a conference that is known for absolutely NO DEFENSE. Besides we had that experiment with Spurrier and Danny "Awful", another Heisman winner. Personally, I do like John Gruden, but I don't think he would want to work for Snyder unless The Danny put up a ton of cash, and even then I think he will pass. He is making tons of $$$$$$$$$ just BSing about football and making commericals. Why put yourself in the middle of a firestorm? I am thinking we will have another Zorn type, a young assistant that will go for it, just to at least have on his resume he was a HC, but I think the smarter ones will not bite. Zorn will never ever be a HC in the NFL ever again because of the disaster he had in DC. The smarter ones will bide their time and go to a team they can win with and have a decent career. I just don't see this farce getting any better. I still think Jerry Jones and Snyder are geniuses and are just laughing at us little people for actually caring about this shit.
|
Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach (Volume 2)
Pro football is all about the $$$$$$$$$$$, nothing more, nothing less. Watching last year's playoffs and the Super Bowl totally confirmed my long held suspicions that it was just about the money, and fixed as well, and not just by the zebras.
|
Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach (Volume 2)
I do think Snyder is smarter than Jones in that he stays quiet for the most part, thus doesn't say a lot of dumb things like Jones, but he likes his drama, because he knows it sells tickets and gives him free advertising. The thing is I think the charade will get old, and maybe the emphasis will be on winning again. This stupid obsession with getting teams in Europe is fantasy at best. FIFA games are not well attended as NFL games, as Europeans need every dime they have to survive anymore.

Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach (Volume 2)
