Is that rumor of Grimm and the Pittsburgh job true? Where the league called and said make Tomlin HC?
I think that's exaggerated. I don't believe the league actually called the Steelers

SS, how pointless, from your experience, is the claim of honesty in the process of hiring and firing in the NFL?

Every claim of support from owners for their HC is typically followed by the HC being fired, every claim of non-contact is followed by the person being hired. It's tiring.

In the words of Plato, "honesty is for the most part less profitable than dishonesty"

There's a fine line between lying and simply not telling the whole truth

Honesty was no friend to Socrates.

If you're asked by <ahem> 'The Media' do you have any duty to them to tell the truth, the whole truth etc? I'd like to think people in the trade would be honest with each other but I understand the need for subterfuge with news outlets and rival teams.

You learn to read between the lines or at least realize there are half truths

"We haven't spoken to Brian Billick about the HC position"

No but they spoke to his attorney...as an example

Yes!! This guy is my sleeper pick, I think he could as good as Shaw and only 41.

To me this would be a very Shanny-like pick and a very Danny-like choice.

We're interviewing both big and obscure names. We're interviewing former HC's, coordinators, and college folks. We are doing our due diligence in a good way. I think this is a good sign.

Contrast this search with our last search, where we really interviewed just one guy and the rest was fluff.

Good points all around. It's a professional FO today, and a zorn type hire is very unlikely. That said I feel like we're gonna end up with an HC that's still a big gamble to succeed. Lovie was the only proven HC but he was probably headed to Tampa no matter what. We won't find anyone who's accomplished what he has, and the next most accomplished candidate, G Williams, isn't on our list either.

So it'll be a coordinator who's never coached a SB winning group, a college prospect who's getting there feet wet in the nfl, or an HC retread like Whisenhunt. But at this point I don't really think the HC is as critical as putting a solid staff together. We need a really talented DC to get our defense playing with pride. We need an OC who can build an awesome rapport with RG. And an HC who can lead and make the most of the roster.

If you believe our next coach will not be someone with successful nfl head coaching, you're a fool. So far, only one of the candidates we know about could potentially fit that bill (Caldwell).

Actually, for those who like past history, a college coach/unproven nfl name would be the historical pick for Snyder:

Skins Coaches under DS:
Norv (previous hire)
Robiskie (interim)
Shottenheimer (first hire - proven NFL Coach)
Spurrier (Big name college/unproven NFL coach)
Gibbs (Proven NFL Coach)
Zorn (Unproven NFL name)
Shanahan (Proven NFL Coach)
???

edit:
Sadly History would also say you could expect the next coach to have a 2 year tenure. So I am all for breaking the patterns.

CRedskinsRule 01-04-2014 06:17 PM

Re: Who Do You Want to Be The Head Coach?

Heck by that pattern we will either pick someone whose name starts with an S or Bevell based on the Seattle connection.

skinsfaninok 01-04-2014 06:21 PM

This time around is different for me, I honestly don't really care who we hire. I guess it's because I was so let down with mike that I don't even believe we will win until the team does consistently. It just seems like we r doomed under Dan.

Not a bad place to be IMO. It can only get better for you.

I really like this search. We are (FINALLY) doing our due diligence and not just going with retreads and over paying for them or do-boys for Dan. I see a joe Gibbs ala '81 on the horizon!

This clearly has Bruce's fingerprints all over it and not Dan's!

Re: Who Do You Want to Be The Head Coach?

Whoever does end being head coach, if they want to stick with a 3-4 I wouldn't mind bringing in Wade Phillips to coordinate. He's one of those guys who isn't a good head coach but is solid to above-average as a coordinator.

The orioles have sucked since Peter Angelo's and the redskins have basically sucked since Snyder. Just not rooted in tradition like we used to be. The redskins are Snyder's little plaything, until we break that we are doomed. If anything ever comes out about RGIII and Snyder doing Vegas together or flights to Paris over the offseason then my theory will be proven!!!!. bwahahahahahahah.

Huh? The Orioles have had a winning record for the past 2 years and made it to the playoffs in 2012, albeit in a Wilcard spot. They've been consistently getting better.

That's a really poor example.

Angelo does not care about the orioles where as Snyder does care. Snyder just hasn't made the right decisions but at least he is trying. This is a terrible example.

I think your idea is a good one.

What if we had:
HC - Jay Gruden
OC - Chud (Chico's idea)
DC - Pillsbury

I think the O's made the playoffs back in 96 as well but I know what you're saying. The O's are doing better in spite of him, not because of him.

Talked to Ron Saul today, sit's with RG3's family a lot during the games. He told me a few guys that were a lot higher on the charts than others. Also spoke about how the RG3 dad drama was a bunch of crock shit, and RG3 having input on the coach search was shit. RG3's relationship with the coach will be important and any coach coming in will have to understand he's the franchise QB going forward for now, but in now way did RG3 have any say or ridiculous relationship with Snyder.

Russ Grimm might be moving up my charts to be honest.

Rex probably did the best coaching job of the year. His players bust their ass for him. Rob is proven. Look what he's done with the Saints D? I could care less about off spring. I want a guy who can coach and motivate.

Watching the video clip of Cowher on NFL.com, I would love to see him in DC. Watching him interact with his players and really connect with them - in different ways - is pretty awesome. I love when he accuses Cordell Stewart of lobbing bacci balls. Hysterical.
