Well since Byrd alone can't turn the defense around, then if you do sign him there is no way we can stop there. But overpaying 3 players is crazy Vinny stuff of course he would just stop with Byrd.

I would look at a cheaper option at FS and focus resources on the entire team not one position.
Me, too. Michael Mitchell is a playmaker who would make us better at safety.

Hey all, lifelong 'skins fans (40+ years) and newbie to the board....

my take on the priority needs are...
1) Safety, 2) OLine, 3) ILB

I'd also like to see some upgraded play at...
4) CB, 5) WR, 6) NT, 7) More OLine

With $22M in cap space, I think there's room to address my top 3 priorities in FA.

I'd target Cap friendly upgrades, as opposed to Top Tier in each position. I'd be thinking to sign 3 FA's for a total cap hit of $15m or so, which should draw some definite upgrades at those positions.

If a restructured contract or two comes around, then I'd consider pursuing WR or CB in FA as well.

Other than that, I'd focus on building through the draft and trying to coach up other young players already on the roster.

Can only talk to players' agents and discuss parameters of a contract. Can't agree to the contract, though. On Tuesday after 4pm deals can become official, teams can meet with free agents, etc.

Orako knocked 11.5 mill off the top, they can still cut or restructure guys like Bowen though.

Apparently we have more than enough cap space since we didn't roll 1.3 million of it over???
Tom Pelissero ‏@TomPelissero 3m
Per NFLPA data, three teams didn't carry over unused cap space from 2013: #Redskins about $1.3M, #Rams around $172K, #NYG $17K.

we used Dumervil's fax :(
lol. I could see a team like the Jags not carry it over, if they still want to spend as less as possible and the extra cap space wouldn't count in subsequent years as part of their cap floor. Figured we're still looking for every loophole we can to spend.

Why did they sign JD Walton ? it cost them about $250,000 for him to watch 4 games. Granted it is not much money, was the plan to check him out, then resign him?

Didn't take the 49ers long to realize Carlos stops playing once he gets paid.

After him balling out on that one year contract (and securing a big deal), he went back to dropping INTs and to his old self of not making game changing plays.

Getting "paid" makes you drop balls?

Re: Free Agency Begins in a Week, Whats the Plan?

The whole I got paid so now I just suck is a weak argument outsid of Fat Albert who just flopped on purpose I rarely see a guy just give up after a paycheck. A lot of times it is they changed teams and they just didn't work out in that scheme as well as their old team.

Some sources say Carlos coming back is a possibility. Can't rule it out.

CRedskinsRule 03-11-2014 09:02 AM

Carlos' dropped ints are definitely frustrating. But the guy can cover very well and that's what our defense needs.

True, but if possible I'd rather have a guy like Verner over Rogers. If we do go the older cornerback route, I wouldn't give out any long term deals, but if we did I'd give them something that would give us an escape clause 2+ years down the road so we can get out of it when we need to.

JoeRedskin 03-11-2014 09:30 AM

Re: Free Agency Begins in a Week, Whats the Plan?

Obviously, anything involving an older player, Rogers or anyone else, should reflect that in the contract. If Rogers wants to come back for a reasonable contract and fits the scheme Haz wants to play, great. I think, but am not sure, that a starting 3 CB rotation of Hall/Rogers/Amerson is an upgrade over Hall/Wilson/Amerson.

I don't honestly recall if Rogers/Hall meshed in terms of style - I don't think there was any bad blood between the two, that's not what I am saying - I just wonder if a D that works well for Hall also works well for Rogers and vice versa.

That many dropped INTs are inexcusable. Period. The fact is, the asshole wouldn't get his eyes checked until he was a free agent and signed his one year deal. He miraculously started catching those INTs so he could secure that contract. Gets the contract, and the dropsies start back. It's not a coincidence.

Listen, I've heard way too many stories about Carlos Rogers from LL/HTTR to know that I do not want this dick wad back into the fold. He's one of those tools that can be found in the club most of the week blowing his money. Do not want. Do not need.

Monkeydad 03-11-2014 10:03 AM

Re: Free Agency Begins in a Week, Whats the Plan?

^ Actually we do need him. He can still cover.

I wouldn't want him as a starter though...bring him back as a nickel back and load up with top safeties behind him. Byrd or Ward.

Re: Free Agency Begins in a Week, Whats the Plan?

Carlos wouldn't be bad, think they're better options

Monkeydad 03-11-2014 10:09 AM

Re: Free Agency Begins in a Week, Whats the Plan?

Absolutely. He better not be our first option...same with Bailey. They would be fall-back options if we can't land a top FA.

Re: Free Agency Begins in a Week, Whats the Plan?

it all depends on the money. would verner be better? probably, but he'd also cost 9+mill a year, which is more than we'll be spending. if rogers is really cheap, you might as well kick the tires.

dont think Verner is a scheme fit. Revis would be

you mean rogers? and yeah, but if one wants 9mill that we won't pay and one will take a 2mill or incentive based 1 year deal...
