It has to be, schedules are due out in what a week or two? No refrigerator magnets have been printed yet. We should be good to go for a DJax payback game. Him and his "gang" (garcon, griff, reed, almo, etc) should be amped up for a good ole fashion beat down of the birds!
I think we going to play the Gmen as the open to the season on sunday night football, I bet that might be changed out for Skins vs Eagles. |
While I'm excited at the prospect of what Jackson is going to do on the field for us,I just cant get over this bad feeling the Eagles have fleeced us somehow.
They definitely got over on us on the Mcnabb trade and while this is not a direct trade with us its just to good to be true. We talk all the time about how somebodys worth a draft pick,Cousins is worth a 2nd,Fred Davis is worth a 4th,etc.I dont know for sure whether the Eagles tried to trade him or not,but how do you not get something in return for this guy? The Eagles know him better than anybody,I dont see any of his Eagles teammates having his back. Like I said it just seems to good to be true, and you know the saying about that. As far as him doing any returns,I doubt he will.Skins have a long history of not using their best punt returners as punt returners for fear of injury and I've never understood it. Other teams have used their starters as punt returners,Rod Woodson,Deon Sanders come to mind. You cant control when a players going to get hurt, your paying him the big money so let him do what hes good at. Skins should have used D.Green as a returner.I can forgive them for not using him in that role in his prime, but he should have been used more.Especially his last yr,he still had the speed, only saw the field in nickel package, there was no reason not to. Should have used Moss more or DeAngelo Hall last yr when we sucked so bad
Its not completely unbelievable that him and Kelly didnt mesh, or that the Eagles didnt want to pay him. We are paying him less than they would have, plus they do have Maclin coming back. I know as Redskins fans we are always waiting for the axe to fall, but this is actually us hitting the lottery. |

Gotta think this is all about the $. Tough to trade someone when they're carrying that big of a contract. I have my reservations too, but I think the deal we signed really protects us from any damaging effects down the line. Thrilled at this deal. |

I think people should consider the idea that maybe the Eagles f*cked up by: a. Doing very little to keep talented/productive player on their roster b. Not getting something out of a player that other teams coveted (sh*t, we got at least something out of McNabb and Haynesworth) c. Not making sure to keep D. Jax out of a division rival (trade him to the Raiders or Browns for a 7th rounder) Chip Kelly wanted D. Jax out without considering how he's going to make up for his production. I know it's not the same thing, but it sort of reminds me of when McDaniels ran Jay Cutler out of town in Denver b/c he wanted "his guy". |
Schedule makers are scrambling I'm guessing.
Schedule is about 95% done |
How did the Eagles fleece us when we didn't give up any picks??
There's always the chance the Eagles seriously botched this situation. Time will tell. |
I think people should consider the idea that maybe the Eagles f*cked up by:
a. Doing very little to keep talented/productive player on their roster
I would like to emphasize this piece in particular. The Eagles became known as a franchise that made all the smart decisions, getting rid of players before they got too old and hit their decline, drafting intelligently and supplementing with free agents, etc. etc. But just as Bruce Allen has come in and provided a major change from the Vinny era, so have the Eagles. They became known for all those smart decisions in the 2000s under Andy Reid and Joe Banner. Now they're under Chip Kelly and Howie Roseman. It's an entirely different administration and they deserve none of the benefit of the doubt that Banner and Reid earned all those years. There's no reason to think they didn't just do something stupid. |

Re: Redskins Sign DeSean Jackson
A couple of things.
1) Once teams knew that the Eagles possibly would release him, the trade value had to go down. You know he's going to want money, but why take a deal that another team had written that he had made comments about. On top of that why give any pick if you think he will be free. The only team that might have done that was Oakland, but they did it once already for Schaub. 2) I think way too much is made of the former coach issue but only time will make show, or it may never really be known. 3) I think the Skins played their cards real close, and other teams felt like there would be a market and DJax tour. Once he was released, I think the Skins acted swiftly and obviously definitively to make him know he was welcome and wanted here. 4) Kudos to BA especially for working through it without (so it appears) panicking. |

Amazing how when I didnt think we had a chance I hated this guy. Now - different story. Those boneheaded plays going into the endzone still bother me, but Im pretty sure I hated him mostly for the fact that he was a great player on a division rival. Oh well hatred is an ugly emotion anyway. He was just misunderstood. ;) |
Redskins Sign DeSean Jackson
My best friend who is a Gints fan got a new cell phone. He texted me his new number yesterday. Just texted me again..."its Jim, did you get my new number yet?"
My response,.... Yes but I havent gotten Desean Jacksons new number yet. #firepower #fuckyeah |

Re: Redskins Sign DeSean Jackson
I really liked the 2nd part of Louis Riddick's article regarding DJ, I hope JG/BA have a plan in place for how to handle working with him and all the possible disappointing scenarios. I know this wasn't a move expected this offseason and it might be a case of "oooh new shiny toy on the shelf let's play with it" but I hope they are prepared in case his attitude springs up again. Also gotta give them major props for the contract, talk about a great deal for us. I saw a report that said we were committing huge money, so I was thinking it would be in the 10/mil year range, but seriously, way to go FO on getting him to sign for a reasonable deal.

Garçon or DJax? Just curious what you guys think... |

DJax has been the better of the two, but Garçon is trending upward - fast.
This. Jackson has better career stats, but Garcon has been the better of the two recently. And while it would be nice to have a Megatron or an Andre Johnson, these two WRs we have are both excellent talents. |
Who's a better WR?
Garçon or DJax? Just curious what you guys think...
I think they are vastly different. Djax is a burner with great hands, and Garcon is a beast after the catch - also great hands. I think their styles and talents will compliment each other very well. |
Re: Redskins Sign DeSean Jackson
Who's a better WR?
Garçon or DJax? Just curious what you guys think...
DJax is lightning in a bottle but I'd take Pierre if I had to make the choice. DJax will have games where he disappears, he struggles in press coverage. Pierre is more consistent, 5+ catches in every game last year. And they'll both make each other deadlier this year. The only question is can we block well enough to take advantage of this weaponry. |

I think RG3's quickness and accuracy will be key. If he does well in those areas, I think will help the o-line a lot. |

If DJax is going to self-destruct with us, let's hope he waits a couple of years or that guaranteed money will come back to bite us. The $8 mil./year average is a reasonably good deal for a player of his talents. |
Re: Redskins Sign DeSean Jackson
Here is a good look at the contract and what it means for DJax and for the Skins from the guys at overthecap.com:
Breaking Down the DeSean Jackson Signing and the Future of the Redskins - Over the Cap from the article:
It also means that Washington’s top three receivers—Jackson, Pierre Garcon and Andre Roberts—will count for $22.7 million against the 2015 cap. While this is quite a large cap number for a team’s receiving core to assume, this shouldn’t have long-term cap implications for the Redskins; all three players can be released with minimal cap damage after 2015.
|
D-Jax will go back to his old #1 from Cal Poly Long Beach days, my guess.

Re: Redskins Sign DeSean Jackson
I just don't understand anyone that follows this team - fans, media, anti-Redskins fans - that say this was a bad signing. There are risks and there are several of them being stated. But there is one main reason that outweigh all of the risks by a huge margin - How and where RGIII does and goes, so do the Redskins.
And for those that subscribe to sample size (yum yum) - see Redskins seaons 2012 and 2013. |
