Re: All things offseason discussion part II
Eh, Manziel is kind of a douche, but then so is RGIII if we're being honest. All the great QBs have a little bit of that. I think it just comes with the territory, and the cockiness/confidence/swagger that's needed at that position.
I think Manziel will succeed in the NFL, although Gordon getting suspended won't help. |
How is RGIII a douche?
well... he put the organization in a bind last year essentially demanding he be started. he's done nothing but take shots at shanahan since he was fired. he's still taking shots. off the field he's a raging douche at this point. the fact that he has so much influence over the organization is deeply concerning to me right now. i hope 2012 was just a small sample of what he's capable of on the field, because off the field isn't looking so great right now. oh and remember how last year he was like 'I don't need preseason'? Someone obviously talked to him, he did a 180 the day after. But for a split second we got a clear view of what his mentality actually is. |
Re: All things offseason discussion part II
his "operation patience" t shirt was unnecessary. thats the only thing imo and I am a big shanny fan.
there is a thin line between being confident and cocky. RG3 has def stayed on the side of confident. Manziel has def stayed on the side of cocky. both are necessary for glory positions like QB or WR or CB. but please - lets not turn this into a RG3 and manziel comparison thread. RG3 is nothing like manziel. |
People sure have an interesting view on the word douche. I guess pretty much every athlete qualifies.
|
Re: All things offseason discussion part II
I think a lot of the negative things attributed to RG3 were overblown or from his people/family. I also think some of it was straight lying from the Shanahans.

Self promotion is good though. Self promotion means more endorsements, which means more money, which hopefully means a more cap friendly contract after his rookie deal expires.
Jersey Shore - the next generation, lol!
That show would contend with Duck Dynasty, any TruTV show, Paris Hiltons My New BFF, and A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila for worst show of all time. Oh and the week of Sportscenter right after the Tebow led Bronco's beat the Steelers in the playoffs. |

Not every athlete. But in my opinion a lot of them do qualify. Maybe I'm just getting older and more crotchety, who knows. Guys like London, Santana, Kerrigan, Rak, Morris, etc. who just put on their hats and go to work are the type of players teams need to succeed. Yes, certain positions require some confidence, even cockiness, but some players take it over the line. Griffin, for me, has not taken it too far yet, but some of the things I hear from him and see him doing are a bit eyebrow raising. I'm definitely not as down on him as tshile is, but compared to a guy like Alf... Again, just my opinion. |

How is he a raging douche off the field? He does not have control of the organization, but we traded away alot to draft him and he plays the qb position. He is basically the centerpiece of everything we want to do going forward. Of-course we are going to cater to that. We would be foolish not to. |

Well yesterday he obviously took some shots at the Shanahan's and this easn't the first time he's done that. Like he wasn't part of the problem last year. He just needs to shut up about last year and not say anything. It's over and done with. |

I wouldn't call it a shot, more like a small poke maybe. Considering all the BS he had to put up with last year with his name being dragged through the mud, he could have said a lot worse and overall I think he handled it all pretty well. |
Re: All things offseason discussion part II
One or both of the Shanahans deserved a lot worse than anything Rob or anyone else in the org has said. The behaviour last year from them was pathetic.

There is stupid and there is Josh Gordan level of stupid. Something else that annoys the shit out of me is how Adam Schefter pronounces Raleigh. He's saying "rally". C'mon man!! |
Re: All things offseason discussion part II
And this is the guy who paid Gordon's bond:
Convicted felon paid Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon's bond - ESPN The guy looks like a serious shady character. As long as Gordon's got money, this guy will be his best friend - I bet he has all sorts of "investments" for Gordon. Soon enough the money will be gone, Gordon will wonder where it all went and this guy will shrug and walk away. What's the over/under on how many years until we read about ex-NFL Gordon being broke and going to jail for many years? |
Re: All things offseason discussion part II
It's all more of the "criminal element" that the NFL has seemed to embody the last couple of years. I think the only way you get that crap out of the league, is the first time someone gets in trouble with the law beyond a misdemeanor, they are cut from the team and blackballed from the NFL. As others have pointed out, alot of these guys aren't super smart to begin with, so within a few years of being out of the NFL they will likely be unemployed and homeless.
It sounds crazy i'm sure but i'm tired of hearing about all these guys that still get to play in the NFL after felony drug / weapon / DUI charges like it's no big deal. I mean Josh Brent is probably going to be on a roster next year somewhere unless they set a standard going forward. |
