You are? You only need to look at our elected officials to show you how stupid the majority of the public really are. This is fitting since today is 9/11 and goes along with the theme here. [YT]0YOh-rpvjYg[/YT]
Yet no one is calling for Newsome to resign or Bisciotti to sell the team.
Keith Olbermann actually called for everybody to be fired (including Ozzie) so I'll give him credit for that much. |

Re: Ravens release Ray Rice
People want to say something about Jerry Richardson and the Panthers in regards to Greg Hardy. I don't think you'll see too many owners break down during a speech like Jerry did here. You can tell it bothers him, which is definitely something Goodell (and Bisciotti) are lacking.
Greg Hardy excused from Carolina Panthers practice to meet with lawyer - ESPN The Panthers (and the NFL) are right to allow the legal system to play about before coming down on Hardy. There isn't any video in this situation that shows us the facts or events. Due process should be allowed to happen and then punish the person if convicted. It needs to be done because there are a lot of false allegations put on men by women, and there are a lot that are legit. Let the legal system do its thing and then act. |
Well, it's getting out of hand b/c (1) of the visceral response to the tape by everyone; (2) the "WTF" factor - how could this ever have been just a two game suspension; (3) Domestic abuse and violence against women is a hot button topic recently; (4) the appearance of a cover-up.
Frankly, I think, but for No. 4, this would begin to slowly die down. As someone said earlier, if it looks like your covering something up, all you do is heighten scrutiny (rightfully so in my opinion). Goodell & the Ravens screwed the pooch on this one initially and now their stories as to why they did so are looking like a pack of lies. Not good for moving on from the story.
I think Watergate taught everyone that the cover up is worse than the crime. |
Re: Ravens release Ray Rice
What a lot of people seem to not get when it comes to hitting women, there is a difference between self-defense and beating a woman.

I had a guy walk into work with a black eye from his girlfriend about 5 years ago. This dude was 6-4 and about 300 lbs, gentle giant and he never touched her. I remember how everyone felt just terrible for the guy and him having to explain it every 5 minutes. |
I'm tired of this already. I can't stand Goodell and he may be lying, but I really don't care. He's not my dad or anything. People get so bent out of shape over things that really aren't any of their business. Rice got away with hitting his wife and he got what he deserved football wise. The law messed up, so did the NFL, they'll get it right if there's a next time. But this media onslaught is ridiculous.
Really? What makes you think they will get it right the next time? There will be a next time. I am also tired of all the people jumping on their soap box and running their mouth and being over judgmental. I think the wealthy & famous people that get away with a slap on the wrist for serious crimes is not going to end. If you are famous and rich the rules are not the same for regular folks. Ask Justin Bieber or Chris Brown.....etc. etc. I also think the NFL culture protecting their own may not come to an immediate end with out them being embarrassed enough to create change. The change will only happen if it is made a big deal. If you are tired of it turn it off. It is that simple. |

Well, they decided to replace Priyanka Chopra with Rihanna at some point this off-season. As I told SS, it was a downgrade. Even so, I don't know why in the fuck they would replace her with Rihanna due to Rihanna is often controversial in her actions and words. Even before this domestic violence thing, I don't get why they would select her. Well, their stupidity bit them in the ass. |

SMH!
The "independent" investigator works for law firm WilmerHale who recently represented our very own Dan Snyder. Also they helped negotiate the multi-billion dollar deal between the NFL and DirectTV. And Dick Cass, president of the Ravens, used to work for WilmerHale. This investigation will no doubt be every bit as thorough as that one that Chris Christie arranged to whitewash Bridgegate. |

The nfl has a major major issue with domestic violence.
The stat is that 1/3 of all women will suffer some abuse from a relationship they are in. The world has a major issue with domestic violence, the NFL is just a big dog for people such as Olbermann and Wilbon to gain brownie points while never caring about Jane Doe getting the crap beat out of her by Joe Blow on a daily basis. And yet, very few are complaining about the real problem here, the court system refusing to do the right thing. I said this when this issue first popped up. If the NJ courts had thrown Rice in jail for a year, would we be talking about what the NFL did? We need to stop relying on sports leagues to police this country. They can do their "moral obligation", but that doesnt even remotely come close to solving the actual problem. Because it wont stop 99% of domestic violence that happens since 99% of it happens outside of professional sports leagues. |
Re: Ravens release Ray Rice
So and John Mara and Art Rooney are helping coordinate the independent investigation? The guy who basically owes Goodell a favor for letting him punish two division rivals for non-existent cap violations and the guy with Big Ben as his QB? Not sure if serious.

The nfl has a major major issue with domestic violence.
The world has a major major issue with domestic violence, not just the NFL. I don't see still how Rice isn't behind bars or awaiting trial. How did law enforcement let this slide, never mind the NFL. But I guess if she doesn't press charges, there's nothing to be done. Which is a shame. As for the NFL, people in the league office are going to take the fall for this. They have to, there's no way around it. Some junior level execs are going to learn that they're not as vital to the league as they thought they were and they're going to take the fall. I don't know what Goodell knew. I feel he probably knows more than he has let on, but I also feel he put trust in Rice (who as far as I know had no issues prior to this) and in the Ravens organization. I mean you won't find a better run organization than the Ravens. I've been approached a couple of times by the Redskins to join them (has never worked out) but I'd work for the Ravens 7 days out of 7 over the Redskins. They're a model franchise, so I really want to know how did they let it get this far and what are they going to do now |

Who is your fam? Sure the country has a major issue with domestic violence, I forget the statistics, but an overwhelming amount of calls to police are for domestic issues. But some of the stats of NFL rosters with players with a sexual assault or domestic violence type of offense greatly outweight social norms. The rep of the Baltimore front office is great, that's why it seems crazy that they dropped the ball. I dont think blame goes to one organization, person, or institution...everyone invovled needs to bare some responsibility. I advise peole to see what James Brown said last night, great take on the situation and he calls out the NFL for missed opportunities in the past to do something. |

The laws were changed a while back that the states no longer need the woman to press charges to go ahead and pursue domestic violence charges against the abuser. There was to many instances of women being threatened by the abuser and choosing not to go ahead with charges due to the threats. NJ could have charged Rice regardless of what Janay said or what she wanted to happen. She could have asked for all charges dismissed and NJ could have said no and charged him anyways. NJ dropped the ball because Rice should be in jail. |
