That's because the last play was the game. This was a Super Bowl, man. The only thing that matters to a team in the Super Bowl is winning it, no matter how well or poorly they played.
The game was on the line and the Seattle coaches got cute and blew the game. That's the story. It was a Beast Mode moment if there ever was one.
for sure, but if Seattle defense does its job it would never come down to that. Another huge play was the Kearse drop on a perfectly thrown ball, over his shoulder which would have set up Seattle down on the Pats 25 yard line. That killed the momentum. Kearse effing sux, they got to get rid of him this offseason. |

Re: Super Bowl Gameday Thread
The only Seahawk I feel bad for this morning is Russell Wilson. He is the only guy on that team that I have complete respect for. As for the rest of the Seahawks, HAHA!
I still despise the New England Patriots about as much as the Cowboys, but I wasn't too upset over them getting their fourth Super Bowl title. I am almost certain it will be their last title, and I'm certain that the Seahawks will somehow make it back to the Super Bowl again next year (much to my dismay.) But I think the seahawks fans needed to experience some bitter disappointment, because they were getting quite cocky. |

wilson should have put the ball on him...in his stomach, but he lead him. Bad choice by Wilson. When your go to guy is Ricardo Lockett, its a bad play call. Horrendous play call |

Why do you think this will be the Patriots last? That team is going to be just as deadly next year as well. They are already the favorites to be in the SB again, along with Seattle. I agree with the Seahawk fans thing. God damn they've been annoying the past year. |
Dont tell NC that. Lmao
Why do you put words into my sentences that aren't there? Tom is one of the greatest regardless of whether they win that game or not. In fact, just listen to how stupid this is. You are judging Tom based on a sequence of plays he isn't involved with. However that play went last night shouldn't change Tom's status as one of the best. It's not like he "lost his clutch ability" if they lose it. The difference between you and me is that I recognize BB as one of the top 2 coaches of all time and continues to put complete teams around Brady, whereas you think the Patriots would not be crap without him. |
Re: Super Bowl Gameday Thread
I agree. Tom was throwing all the underneath stuff and their defense never adjusted.Where was the aggressive play from their corners like in last year's SB where they man handled those WRs? Keep in mind though, Lane and Anvril got hurt in that game. That's 2 starters down.
I don't think they had the personal to cover small quick receivers. It was more about their linebackers not being able to cover the Running Backs/Tight Ends. Also Seattle has always allowed the underneath stuff. The difference last night they didn't tackle and the linebackers were exposed through match-ups. Last year's super bowl they not only tackled well but you could see the bronco receivers start to get scared. That took away the short stuff and then the pass rushers got to Manning. This year they couldn't take away the short stuff so the pass rushers could never get to Brady. He was just too quick with the ball. |

Yea I agree with this. They would probably be like what the Lions or Bengals are right now. I don't think Bill has ever assembled a defense that was good enough to win it on its own. Like the 2001 Ravens or last year's Seattle. He is great at both offense and defense. Some coaches just know how to assemble talent on both sides. |

Not sure why they didn't jam those smaller receivers at the LOS. They have the size and speed to do that with guys like Edelman and Amendola. Granted, Sherman is hurt (probably needing surgery) and Lane was out of the game. That said, I still didn't like what I saw from them in that 4th quarter. Pats adjusted offensively, but Seattle didn't. |

They tried to jam them. Simon just couldn't. That is who they kept throwing it at. I think they could jam one of them but they didn't have the depth to do it to both. It is why Amendola had a pretty good game as well. Plus like I said, Seattle has always allowed the underneath stuff, they just didn't tackle as well as they usually do. It wasn't Wagner. If you noticed they targeted Wright. That was who Gronk scored the touchdown on. A lot of those Vereen passes were on Wright. They actually tried to avoid Wagner, especially after his pick. |
Re: Super Bowl Gameday Thread
I think it was more about Seattle being terrified that they couldn't cover Gronk so they spent the game taking him out with help from Chancellor which made them give more field responsibility to the LBs which opened the underneath for exploitation. If only Tom Brady wasn't such a hack Patriots would have won by 30.

One who just needs to be clutch. I'll give you the first one that they didn't need elite play for that super bowl. They still needed a clutch QB but not an elite QB Second one is definitely not true. They almost gave up 400 yards of offense and kept giving up big play after big play. They needed 32 points to win the game. Tom Brady had to throw the ball almost 50 times for 350 yards and 3 touchdowns. |

Re: Super Bowl Gameday Thread
Where do people rank him compared to Manning now? Especially comparing how they played in the Super Bowl vs. similar teams.
Also thinking about the great season Manning had last year. |

Even if Manning came back and won another trophy I still think Brady had the better career. |

Re: Super Bowl Gameday Thread
I don't think Manning is a choker.
I think the problem with Manning has been when the game gets ugly it gets really ugly for him. Playoff games are often ugly which is why manning has struggled. I think he pays too much attention to the smallest detail (part of what makes him great) and when those things don't go his way he makes terrible mistakes. I also think he has only had a truly elite defense one or two times in his career as opposed to Brady having an elite D for his first 3 super bowls (He hasn't had a truly elite defense since then though). But to call him a choker has always been too much in my opinion. |
Re: Super Bowl Gameday Thread
Manning and Brady are both all time greats. This constant need to rank them is exhausting.

I think its interesting to rank them, especially since you can make a case for either one. |
Re: Super Bowl Gameday Thread
Both are walking into the HOF but Brady has always been the better QB IMO. Manning can't play in bad weather like Brady can. Manning has also had too many bad playoff games. Let's face it, you're judged in the big games. In the big games, Brady's been the better player. End of discussion.

Re: Super Bowl Gameday Thread
the game was awesome.
serious drama in seattle. did bevel not run the ball to give Lynch the middle finger? did bevel call the pass to make wilson the MVP and set up a very profitable marketing campaign to coincide with wilson's soon to be mega contract? is lynch and his followers going to revolt? retire? does bevel, quinn and lynch exits = end of seahawks run? does wilson become pedestrian once lynch is gone and the D isnt shut down? like the sands of an hour glass, these are the days of our lives. |
Re: Super Bowl Gameday Thread
I can understand what Bevel was thinking. It's 2nd and goal with 1 timeout. If you get stuffed again on 2nd down you're forced to throw on 3rd down. Sometimes coaches outsmart themselves. I'd rather go down with 3 straight beast mode runs, nobody would have faulted them for that.
Manning and Brady are both all time greats. This constant need to rank them is exhausting.
I think ranking any player at any position is silly because there are just to many variables at play. Rank RB's - well who had the better oline? Rank Wr's - well who had the better QB? The more interesting question is if you were starting a franchise tomorrow which guy would you take? That way it is based solely on your eye test. |

I think you miss the point entirely. I play devils advocate when you gush over Tommy boy and point out that Tom would be nothing without his teammates. The same is true for the likes of Vinateri and the rest of the team. They wouldn't be as successful as they are with him. I happen to think that the earlier Patriots teams didn't need him as much as they do now. I don't know why I even bother responding to your ludicrous notions because they sound like most other short sighted fanboy out there. Joe Montana had help. Tom Brady had help. Peyton Manning had help. All three of these guys are in the top 5 and none of them would be who they are without their team. I'm not here to argue two sides of the coin, just to refute the crap you guys spew. |

Dude you're out of your mind. You're trying too hard to prove your point. In the 2nd SB he had 350 yards and 3 TD's. He hit Deion Brach numerous times with pinpoint throws. The first SB he was average cause at that point of his career he was an average player. He's made himself into a great player the following years. How many QB's throw the ball 50 + times and win the game? You have to realize that a coaching staff has to have a tremendous amount of trust in your QB to run an offense like that. Brady is one of the very few QB's that has that kind of trust because he's earned it. |
LOL.
No. Brady didn't stop the Seahawks on the goal line or this wouldn't even be in the discussion. If anything, these teams seem to gift wrap these types of games up for Tom. Wilson actually outplayed Brady that game. How about you give the Patriots defense some props. Hell, if the Seahawks run beastmode on that last play, you guys aren't even having this conversation. You would be talking about how Wilson outplayed Tom and the 2 INTs.
NC - this is how u broke into the convo last nite. Donofriose said Brady was top two with Montana and proved how great he was. Your response above. You started with LOL. You say the games are gift wrapped for Tom. Nobody said that Brady won all by himself as you seem so hellbent on proving us "idiots" did. You in fact bluntly took credit away from Brady and state that he actually has NOTHING to do with it. Im not putting words in your mouth - giftwrapped the game for him - in other words - handed it to him on a silver platter. He threw 50 effing passes - completed 37? I think? - was 8-8 on the gamewinning drive! Nobody is saying he did it all. You are in fact coming across as he did nothing. |
Re: Super Bowl Gameday Thread
I do find it funny the Pats were seconds away from losing this game, probably should have lost, then a miracle play happens and all of a sudden everyone is gushing about Brady as if he picked off the pass. He played a great game don't get me wrong, but the game was out of his hands at that point. We could very easily be sitting here talking about his 3rd straight SB loss.
