It's early, thing can change but here it is
Tom Compton is listed as 3rd string backup. Is he gone? |
Re: All things Redskins training camp
Paul is now listed as the #1 TE?? Wow. He must really be having a great camp/offseason.

Hmmm....Makes me think we could go TE on our first pick in the draft next year if our QB situation stabilizes. |
Re: All things Redskins training camp
Paul has improved each year, both as a blocker and receiver. In addition, I don't think he has missed a game due to injury. He is not and probably never will be the receiver Reed is, but I am betting his promotion has more to do with his improved blocking and reliability.
He may never be a pro-bowler but I think he is good enough to be a better than average starter with flashes being a good to very good starter. |
Re: All things Redskins training camp
Those depth charts are not official.
They are put together without input from coaches. They're a Redskins media guesstimating. |
Re: All things Redskins training camp
I wonder what McCloughan thinks of Reed. He flashes that great athleticism but it doesn't feel like he fits the mold of tough and physical.
Gotta prove he can stay healthy for McC to be interested in extending him, I gotta imagine. Even then I don't imagine he'll commit a lot of $, I imagine he'd only want to go incentive-laden. |

Niles Paul is one of the first players that caught Jay's eye last spring. He's a big fan. A lot of coaches really like the work Paul has put in. Even since before then Paul has had fans in the organization. This is a big reason why Mike Shanahan moved Paul from WR to TE. Wanted to find the best opportunity to keep him on the roster All that said, it's just early August. No need to get too worked up over the depth chart yet |
Re: All things Redskins training camp
Brian McNally
13m13 minutes ago Brian McNally @bmcnally14 Brandon Scherff went down with what looked like a right leg injury. Trainers attending to him. 10m10 minutes ago Brian McNally @bmcnally14 Scherff looks ok. I mean...he's in pain but he's walking around. Looked like they were testing if he could push off on right ankle |
Re: All things Redskins training camp
Brian McNally
Brian McNally – @bmcnally14 Robert Griffin III has made some THROWS today. To Pierre Garcon multiple times. Just now a beauty of a deep ball for a "touchdown" 1:19 PM - 10 Aug 2015 |
Re: All things Redskins training camp
Dude these camp injuries really need to give us a effing break, def no pun intended.
|
Re: All things Redskins training camp
I swear if Scherff is hurt . . . :puke:
|
Re: All things Redskins training camp
Please, football gods, no more Redskin injuries. Haven't we suffered enough?
:nono: |

Sam Bradford and Ryan Matthews are about to change that. |
Re: All things Redskins training camp
It's just preseason but, YAY! Football is almost back.
Wonder how Hard Knocks will portray Saturday's brawl. It's hard to tell anything from practice football. Just hoping for no injuries and a solid showing from RGIII. Would be nice to see Matt Jones truck someone. |

Re: All things Redskins training camp
Keim writes that Preston Smith looks slow in camp. To me, he seemed to lack quickness on his college film and I didn't like the pick in the draft. I doubt that he can play OLB in the NFL. Am I missing what the Skins saw in him to draft him as an OLB?
They had him lose weight to play OLB but I wouldn't be shocked if they ultimately decide to have him gain weight and move to DE next year. Seems like a better fit to me. But first let's see what he's got in the preseason games. |

highlights from Monday practice
"When Brandon Scherff was sidelined with a twisted ankle (he walked off OK after practice and said he was fine), Spencer Long replaced him for the first series but rookie Arie Kouandjio took over the next. For what it's worth, Paea got past Scherff in one-on-one work. The rookie got his hands on him -- they're usually a little wide, then he works them inside. However, Paea's quickness resulted in a successful rush. But Scherff stopped Baker twice in a row, thanks to good hands. Scherff also stayed low when Baker tried to go wide and beat him." |

It too way way way too early to make a judgement on the transition, but he looks more like a DE to me. Great leverage player...but playing in space is such a big change. |

Seems like he would be more a fit as a 4-3 end. It will be interesting to see how and where he plays Thursday. |

Re: All things Redskins training camp
With the caveat that I am not suggesting Smith is the same as any of these guys: (1) both Orakpo and Kerrigan were a 4-3 ends in college; (2) both Murphy and Kerrigan are listed at 6' 3" and 267 lbs. while Smith listed at 6' 5" 271lbs. So, physically, he is similar in build to guys we have drafted at OLB before.
I agree the reports out of camp on the guy have mostly been about him being a non-factor. Both RK and Orakpo came in, switched positions, and started day one. Murphy, who actually played OLB in college, had a rougher transition to the pros - and still may not be full time starter quality with a part of his issue being that reportedly he plays slow. To me, however, it seems Smith is even further behind than Murphy was at this time. Hopefully, he can grow into the position. Again, yes he's a 2nd rounder, but, remember, we are in this for the long haul under Scot McC. It might take a little longer for Smith to emerge, but it's way too early to write him off just yet. |

Re: All things Redskins training camp
If he had a great get-off on the snap he would have been a top 10 pick. No he's not a speed rusher, he's a technique and leverage guy. In the pros where the tackles are even more athletic, your technique and leverage needs to be perfect if you don't have the speed off the edge. Slow your roll guys, he'll learn.
But you know who does have speed off the edge? Junior Galette. Ahem. |

Andrew Walker – @AWalkerRedskins
Robert Griffin III gets the job done in 11-on-11 action. Unofficially 7-for-7 for about 120 yards and a 55-yard touchdown to Niles Paul. 12:41 PM - 11 Aug 2015 Tarik El-Bashir – Verified account @TarikCSN RG3 had a sharp practice today and afterward said, "from a mental and fundamental standpoint, today was my best practice in camp." #Redskins 1:16 PM - 11 Aug 2015 |

Trevardo Williams, DeSean Jackson, Ryan Kerrigan, Jamison Crowder, Will Compton, Bashaud Breeland, David Amerson all OUT Thursday vs. CLE. 12:48 PM - 11 Aug 2015 You can probably add Reed to this list too. :( |

Keep in mind this time of year if someone is the least bit nicked up they're not going to risk them playing. Injury lists always appear bigger than usual.

Whoa kinda big especially since reed is already out for tonight, sound like gruden believe Paulsen will be out for sometime, surgery or not. Not picking up a te in the draft or free agency could bit us. |

JG stated that Paul will get some reps but the majority will go to some of the recent acquisitions ala "Ham" (related to Pot Roast) and the other couple guys....
