Re: Predict RGIII's next team
ESPN's Ed Werder suggested on SportsCenter Tuesday that the 49ers are free agent Robert Griffin III's best bet as a landing spot.
Werder said he anticipates Chip Kelly having "interest" in Griffin, "depending on what happens with Colin Kaepernick." The 49ers' intentions with Kaepernick are unclear, but he has requested a trade out of San Francisco. Werder also passed along word from at least one NFL coach that believes Griffin is "done," but who does expect him to get signed "based on what he did in 2012."
Yep. I remember your good ol' pal Metalskins mentioning how I felt it made sense for Griffin to be in San Fran, although I was hoping for some weird three team trade deal. |

Im not impressed with Cooley with this type of comment. This act of smearing RG3 as he leaves is kinda no class. I never hated the guy, and will always remember the 2012 "dream" season. The most exciting season since the last superbowl. That was one hell of a ride. |
Re: Predict RGIII's next team
2012 was great, and RG3 looked impressive as hell, but hindsight being 20/20 I think you can look back now and see that a lot of factors fell into place to make that season what it was. The defense really showed up in the last 7 games. Morris was a beast, our running game was amazing. Kyle designed the offense around RG3's strengths. So yes as a rookie there is no doubt RG3 was great, however without all those other factors falling into place, 2012 would not have been a winning season. So my point is, in 2012 RG3 did his part, but so did everyone else. Hell, Cousins won a game for us. It's a team game. And that's my other point. RG3 didn't seem to get that. I still wish him well but I'm happy that hopefully soon the name RG3 and the name Redskins will no longer be used in the same sentence.

RGIII is an available FA snd he will evaluated by teams and media. That is part of the process. The criticism is not about his personal life away from football. It is directly to do with what kind of player and teammate he has been and will be. Not smearing imo. |

I generally thought RG3 handled a most uncomfortable demotion with class last year. In fact most dealings with folks outside the locker room was with class. There have been a long list of QBs who didn't get along together within the team, but as long as its kept in-house and professional it doesn't matter. I don't look back at RG3 tenure and think "locker room cancer"...just don't. |

Re: Predict RGIII's next team
cooley's just giving insight on what's happened to lead to this point. he's a member of the media, so he's not bound to try and keep things in house... also, no one's refuting anything he's said or saying any of it was false, so i'm not going to be mad at a "journalist" for reporting facts and giving context to a story that people want to know about.
|
Re: Predict RGIII's next team
I think Cooley should have let it go. Not to fond of the comments regardless if they are true or not. Nothing good can come of it so there was really no need to kick the guy on his way out.

calling Cooley a journalist is a slippery slope at best. I actually got a chuckle from that. Im not hearing anybody corroborate these hearsay statements either. But I did hear what Orakpo said. Im sure there is some animosity from RG3. Really haven't heard it from Cousins or RG3.. |
Re: Predict RGIII's next team
Cooley is just reiterating what we mostly already knew.
Please make this end already. |
Re: Predict RGIII's next team
Is there some truth to what Cooley said? Yeah, most likely. Could he have handled it much better? Yeah, absolutely. I don't feel sorry for Cooley, all this negative feedback he brought on himself.

What if Denver takes both Kap and RGIII, let them duel it out for starter, and have a comparable if the starter gets hurt/flops. It would be going all in for their offense. |

That is debatable. Cooley says that from the minute they drafted Cousins Griff had animosity towards him. It is completely possible to smear someone by talking about them as a teammate. You dont have to get into their personal life to smear them. If you left your job and an old co-worker called your new boss and said "hey i didnt know the guy outside of work but he was really a dick to the people here in the office" I would consider that a smear. Maybe even the worst kind of smear since it is much more relative to future employment. All this being said I dont think anything Cooley said would be held against Griff. His future depends 100% on whether or not he can play the position. |

He did not smear him, he gave an opinion on the situation. It is relevant because it shows a pattern of RG3 being difficult to work with. It doesn't matter is RG3 and KC didn't like each other. All they needed to do was work together. |
Re: Predict RGIII's next team
I think Cooley should have just taken the high road.

Maybe Griff should have taken the high road in the first place.
Perhaps but what's done is done. He could have just said.."Hey, these two really weren't the best of friends" and left it at that. The rest of the stuff seemed too TMZ. Guys in every locker room in the NFL aren't friends and just have working relationships. |
Re: Predict RGIII's next team
Maybe Cooley is fabricating Griffs attitude towards KC but why ob Earth would he? I believe him. That is just me though.

Agreed. Which is why I said even if its true who cares? For Griff its all about one thing. Playing well. This is not some serious accusation. |
Re: Predict RGIII's next team
I do think all of the stuff that he said is true. The guys on the line did not like him because he wouldn't take any blame for the sacks. And it's obvious Garcon and Jackson were not fans either.

Re: Predict RGIII's next team
I've been hearing talk about Griffin to Denver and that would be the most shocking least likely outcome to me based on Kubiac and Mike S relationship.

Do you think Mike S would give a positive review of Griff? I'm sure Kubiak is doing due diligence but I feel at best he would only give Griff a shot to earn a job there, with absolutely no guarantees of a starting job. |
Re: Predict RGIII's next team
Thats the best offer Griff is going to get from anyone not just Denver.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. SB Champion currently has no QB's with NFL game experience? Is that right? If so, that is crazy. The QB FA market is not strong this year. This QB class in the upcoming draft is ok, but not great either. Not a good time to lose your QB's and have the 31st pick. There is this: Broncos call 49ers about possible trade for QB Colin Kaepernick - The Denver Post |

Very true, but their defense also took a big loss in DE Malik Jackson and LB Danny Trevathan. The defense lost its second best player on defense and and another key starter. It remains to be seen how great the defense will be next season. But it is safe to say they took some BIG hits and are not the same team. |

Looks like Cooley opinion not shared by many...kinda expected that.
Guys are going to be more apt to come out and defend a current/former teammate than to pile it on. Not saying the few players here are hiding their real feelings to come to Griffs defense just that you probably wont see guys echoing cooleys statements. Ya tend to keep the negative shit to yourself. Edit : alot of these guys are saying shit like Griff handled his demotion well - not what Cooley was saying. Orakpo saying he would smack him could just mean not cool to do that not that he thinks Griff was an exceptional teammate. I dont know man , it is really all a non story but I am sure their is a big ole pile of truth in there somewhere and just because people dont like that Cooley said it doesn't make it a lie. Edit : one more thing. Ricky Jean Francois was not really around for any of it. How the hell does he know what Robert and Kirks relationship was like since draft day??? |
