Ahh, thanks Schneed and punch. While I trust Scot's drafting, I REALLY trust his FA decisions. If he says no on Whitner, I'm down with that.

Re: The Defense Only Thread

I heard a really interesting proposition on Cooley's show earlier this week.

Cooley suggested the much discussed switch from a 3-4 base to a 4-3 base by playing Cravens as the weak side LB.

The suggestion was based purely on the personnel on the current roster and getting our best players on the field rather than a philosophical argument on one scheme versus the other.

Kerrigan, Murphy, and Smith rotating at ends. Baker and Hood as the starting DTs. Foster at strong side lb, Compton at MLB.

Of course, Cravens is hurt this weak and it wouldn't matter.

I just don't think Jay or Barry has the stones to make such a dramatic change in the season.

Simple question, do we want more good players on the field, or less good players on the field?

Re: The Defense Only Thread

How much do they actually line up in a base 3-4 though. I agree that 3-4 is a bit silly, because they don't have a 3-4 NT on the roster period. I don't think they run that formation very often though.

DYoungJelly 10-10-2016 09:02 AM

Re: The Defense Only Thread

We were in 3-4 base 8 out of the first 9 defensive snaps. It is really based on the offense to dictate the response with the personnel they bring out.

I think it is more about talent than scheme. Use a scheme that takes a journeyman DL out of the game and puts in a guy that makes plays like Cravens. Dude has done nothing but make plays this year.

IMO, one of the most troubling things this year with the defense and in particular the coaching, is that it took so long to get away from Bruton as one of the starting safeties. He has consistently been the worst guy on the field from week 1 till he went to IR.

EDIT: Going back and watching the game over, they were in 3-4 base a lot although I don't have a count. I think they were in base more in this game though than other games, especially against the Giants.

I suggested this exact same thing. Cravens at WLB would be very interesting.

Lotta good observations...ziggy hood should stay at end...mason foster with his best game as a skin...it's over, Kendall fuller has solidified himself as our starting slot cb. Pro football focus had fuller as top 5 corner this weekend.

I wanted Fuller in the 2nd round last year. We got Cravens there, and still got Fuller. Double win. They both look like long term keepers as of now. Exciting stuff. And now Murphy is also starting to play really well. Building solid pieces.

Iannodis wouldn't get scooped off the PS. Wondering why they don't consider knighton and see if they can get iannodis back on the ps. Obviously, always some risk to that.

Why would the Redskins cut a 5th round pick who played his best game yesterday
For an aging, out of shape player who they are familiar with. Iodannis will keep improving and yes, someone would scoop him up.

I'm not so sure someone would scoop him up (although I admit there's risk of it). He was on the PS for a little while at the start of the season (in the last round of cuts, not moving up until Golston was hurt). I realize he's a 5th rounder and presumably has potential (didn't see much from him yesterday). But can he contribute more now to the team than Knighton (an honest question), and if not, if we think that Ionnodis would stick on the PS, wouldn't that be worth doing? I trust Scot to make the right call here, of course.

Did u read the article? Gruden said he was on 28 plays and did well, McCloughan
took advantage of Ionnadis having a quiet camp and cut him. He will not do that again, as more teams see him play and improve they will be interested.

Not to mention that Pot Roast likely isn't going anywhere at this point. Why risk losing a possible young talent by putting him back on the PS, IF he is improving, when the older talent will be there if needed at any point.

I feel like if there was a terrible defensive team out there and they watched footage of Ionanabooboodis, and they felt like he performed solidly they would snap him up in a second. If I'm McC I'm not risking it. Plus you risk alienating your locker room demoting your homegrown guy who just got his first chance in favor of a temporary solution.

Regarding Cravens and glasses, this is from braininjuries.com:

Essentially, Concussion or Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) or Acquired Brain Injury is an insult to the brain, such as a blow to the head, stroke, or neurological dysfunction. The insult can produce cognitive, sensory or physical impairments; most are amenable to rehabilitation.

The following is a list of symptoms of visual problems which can result from brain injuries:
Blurred vision
Sensitivity to light, glare sensitivity
Reading difficulties; words appear to move
Comprehension difficulty
Attention and concentration difficulty
Memory difficulty
Double vision
Aching eyes
Headaches with visual tasks
Inability to maintain visual contact or focus
Reduction or loss of visual field (Visual Field Loss)
Difficulties with eye movements, such as:
ocular pursuits (eye tracking ability)
saccadics (shifting gaze quickly from one point to the other)
accommodative inability (focusing)
binocular vision (eye alignment, eye teaming, depth perception, 3D vision, stereopsis)

These visual problems can be successfully decreased or eliminated with various treatments, such as:

Optometric Vision Therapy
Neuro-optometric Rehabilitation Therapy
Corrective lenses, such as prism lenses
Phototherapy programs (Syntonic Optometry, Light Therapy)

Re: The Defense Only Thread

Eye memory and visual memory are two terms for the same thing. Visual memory is recollected information about what a person has seen. It involves both the mental storage of such information and the ability to retrieve it. It can be short term, lasting only fractions of a second, or long term, lasting decades. It is separate and distinct from other types of memory, such as auditory memory. The process by which visual memory works is not fully understood.

In any event, Cravens is not being silly at all. My grandson lost most of his short term memory and could only write backwards due to a severe concussion, until he recovered. As I recall, his recovery took 6-8 weeks. There are many ways that a person can be disabled in either the short term or the long term by a concussion, depending on the severity of the concussion and the area of the brain affected.

BTW, I'm not trying to play a doctor on the internet. I googled "eye memory" for the definition and I experienced the part about my grandson.
