Bruce Allen is the worst choice. So literally anyone that isn't him makes things better. I'll be excited asf if they fire his rudy poo candy ass.

Also Snyder needs to learn to keep his hands off player personnel matters. How someone smart enough to be a billionaire can't realize he is a big part of the problem is beyond me.

Getting another Redskins-linked executive like Louis Riddick would seem just to be another Yes man for Snyder. Not an improvement

As we all have said on here, until POS Danny boy lets go and allows a GM to take FULL control, shit will not matter

Shanahan's contract stated that he (Shanahan) had full control of all football personnel matters, yet Snyder and Smithers still managed to undermine his authority. And Shanny is no shrinking violet.

Apparently, Snyder can't be controlled - no matter what. Nevertheless, the illogical part of my mind still clings to faint hope that if Smithers, Snyder's co-conspirator, is fired and a HC/GM with contractual full authority is hired, then we have a puncher's chance of knocking out the many problems we have now.

The logical part of my brain says "Nah, we're screwed as long as Snyder owns the team".

Supposedly Allen is getting fired tomorrow and his replacement is already in place, which would indicate it’s an in house replacement.

I’d be happy with Schaffer as team president and Kyle Smith as GM.

But this would make compliance with the rooney rule difficult, unless Doug Williams got a “token interview,” which would be rather disgraceful.

I hope so. IMO, he must go for the organization to have a chance to improve on the field. But I don't like the idea of an in-house replacement unless the GM position is not part of the new guy's duties.

Would I want a guy with literally no FO experience whatsoever running the entire team?

No. I like Alex Smith but I also like new FO guys to work their way up the ladder before being handed the keys to the company.

Worse idea ever. There are plenty of people out there that can do the job that have been in the trenches for years. We need a GM that's a scout at heart. We need a guy that loves going to the middle of nowhere to find a Monte Coleman type. No PR heads like Smith or Riddick or at this point Doug Williams.

I'm pretty sure the new setup is going to be Eric Schaffer as Team President and Kyle Smith as GM.

And honestly, I'd be fine with that.

Re: Why moving on from Bruce Allen this year is pivotal to the future of the franchise.

An interesting subplot is how Trent Williams reacts once Bruce Allen is gone. Would he be open to remaining a Redskin?

He was complimentary of Dan Snyder's handling of his medical scare, getting him to specialists and giving use of the plane, etc. I think Trent's primary motivation at this point is probably getting to a winning team willing to put more guarantees into his contract. So I'm guessing he'll still want out even with Bruce gone. But I wonder how he'd react if Bruce is gone, and the new regime offers more guaranteed money.

If I were him I'd want to get to a contender, I wouldn't want to spend the twilight of my career with a rebuilding program starting from scratch with new leadership and new coaches. But it's still an interesting angle to all of this.

Of course, Bruce needs to actually be canned first.

Something tells me he will stay if/when Bruce is gone

Re: Why moving on from Bruce Allen this year is pivotal to the future of the franchise.

I think it'd be best for Trent to get a fresh start somewhere else. He pretty much trashed the medical staff, plus he's an older player that isn't durable and took a year off. Everything says time to move on for both sides. See if you can get 2nd rounder for him.

The best moves to restore this franchise would be to trade TW, Kerrigan, Richardson, Norman & Quinn for picks. While everyone is debating on whether to take Young or Thomas i would trade down and truly build through the draft. It would be better for the team overall and long term to gain as many draft picks as possible 12 or more picks would be great. Fire Bruce get a real GM and a discipline HC that will hold everyone accountable. I like Louis Riddick and Mike Tomlin personally build around Haskins, Guice, McLaurin, Sims, Harmon, Sweat and other young players on defense.

Extremely intelligent dude, obviously we know how talented he was as a player and he is very well respected by everyone he's worked for. I don't think its a far fetch that Smith becomes the GM or in some kind of role in the front office and then brings Eric Bieniemy in as HC.
