Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
On the bright side at least his contract doesn't advance for another year. I'm not giving up hope yet that someone might be able to salvage this mess.

Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
Fuck Dan Snyder, fuck Bruce Allen, fuck the medical staff, and fuck Trent Williams. Just trade him for whatever the fuck you can get.
1st day of the offseason I'm telling the other teams, we are trading Trent in exactly 2 weeks to the highest bidder. Don't care if that's a ham sandwich at this point. Just get him off of the fucking team. |
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
Other premiere players asked to be traded this year and ONLY THE REDSKINS played this game of chicken. Everyone else was traded. Congrats Bruce Allen you “won” this argument by forcing Trent to stay on this team. We have no draft pick to replace this hole on the OL, we lost any player confidence in the management by screwing over our best player who gave hiS heart and soul for this team. Bruce Allen showed why he is the most despised person in Washington, by the players in the NFL and by the agents.

Next year he will be worth HALF what we could have got this season! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

We will get a first round for him ...
We will get a first round for him ...
I think that ship has sailed when they didn't trade him to a contender during the season that was desperate for a left tackle, like the Patriots. Now those teams that were ripe to make a deal will look to the draft. I really don't think anyone will cough up a first now for a 32 year old that misses 1/4 of the games and pay him $12 mil a year on top of that. |
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
I think we’ll end up getting a third-rounder (at best!!) for a 7-time pro bowler LT. Bruce Allen again showed why he is the worst GM in the NFL. The Redskins EASILY could have traded TW for a FIRST ROUND draft pick that could get us an elite replacement for next season.
This team can not improve until Bruce Allen is fired! Pretty much the team should do the exact OPPOSITE of whatever ideas BA has. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
The big question now is whether Trent Williams will consider coming back with his nemesis gone and a new head coach. Adrian Peterson hinted TW might come back. He’ll want a new contract with guaranteed money!

Agreed. Trent’s good for two more years with drafting of at least one or two OT this draft. We need young backups like Martin and these new draft picks. Moses should be dropped, he had a horrible year and dragged Scherff with him into the abyss. Resign Flowers, Trent, Scherff. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Another problem for Trent was the medical staff. They’ve also been given the boot. Another obstacle to his return is removed!

Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
I would trade him. Medical staff may have misdiagnosed but if he was really that concerned about it he could have gotten 2nd and 3rd opinions. His hold out was mostly about money. He may have valid points about the medical staff but that doesn't mean he couldn't have gone else where to get another opinion Yes he is one of the better LT but he hasn't played a full season for 2 or 3 years. He is old trade him for what ever you can get, even a klondike bar... as far as I'm concerned. Clear up the cap space by trading older vets and those who have a high cap hit... Resign Scheriff(sp) if we can or you can tag him for one season and try to work out a long term deal.

Definitely agree but I would try to get more than a Klondike bar for him. He should still be worth a 3rd. The issues of him sitting out the season are on him just as much as they are on the Redskins, if not more. Also some fans seem to ignore his age and injury history, his 75% availability isn't going to improve as he approaches old age for an NFL lineman. With the attitude he took last year he has become part of the "past" bad culture that needs to go. He had a growth on his scalp. I would hope he has enough sense to know that isn't the type of thing a team doctor would be an expert on. His prior reputation as a leader and team player go out the window after what he pulled last season, especially implying BA was a racist. |
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
I love Trent but he should have been moved in August. Trade him for a second and move on. I think any team trading for him may have to agree to resign him so that really reduces his trade value imo.
Maybe at this point Trent just wants it over with and wont insist on a new deal with the new team? Give Trents agent permission to shop him and see what they come back with. |

Drama aside, we are rebuilding now and there's no place for an old, injury-prone player who wants a crap ton of money on the roster. If we were "close," my opinion might be different, but we're not. |
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
I think there's a case to be made for bringing him back as long as there's not a significant new financial commitment. I'd consider an olive branch offer to extend him by one year and guarantee both of those years.
Reason: this team clearly needs to see that its owner is interested in righting a lot of wrongs. Allen has been fired, the trainer Larry Hess has been fired, and we've hired a coach who is big on accountability. Good steps. The team also needs to see more. They need to see an org chart that makes it clear who has the personnel and negotiating power, they need to see that said person is transparent, fair, and trustworthy. And it would go a long way if Snyder reached out with an olive branch to its best player, as a way of acknowledging that Bruce should have handled it differently. The human impact on the locker room would be worth an additional one year commitment to Trent. It might even bring some fans back. People crave an acknowledgement that things were done incorrectly before. Any outward displays of such will galvanize the locker room and the fan base. At this point, this is a needed move from an Emotional Intelligence standpoint. A good leader would recognize that everybody just needs this, regardless of whether Trent will still be here when we're finally good. |

On a personal level I don't want him back. That entire thing with his dogs just made me seriously dislike the guy. It showed me he is not only a careless stupid ass, but he has little to no empathy. Good riddance.

I agree. Obviously Trent is getting up there in age but not only does it help in the way you mentioned but it pushes a major problem back 1-3 years. I think we take for granted how much having a stud LT does for a team, since it's been 2 decades since we've had a bad one. |

I don’t care if Trent and BA had a disagreement, you don’t throw the owner who went out of his way to help him in a time of need and fans under the bus. As far as I’m concerned Trent is done here.

Trent threw Dan under the bus? Was this something newly reported? Trent said in the interview a month or so ago that Dan was not the problem and .. aw hell ill google it. ----------------------------- Now, he's not upset with everyone. Throughout the back-and-forth, Williams mentioned Dan Snyder multiple times. The comments were all positive. "I have a ton of respect for Dan and what he's done here," Williams said of the often-criticized owner. https://www.nbcsports.com/washington/redskins/theres-no-trust-there-trent-williams-respects-dan-snyder-has-lost-belief-redskins While Williams has said owner Daniel Snyder was supportive, including flying the tackle on a private jet for examinations in Chicago to see a doctor Snyder recommended, it was team president Bruce Allen who damaged his relationship with the organization. 106.7 The Fan's Craig Hoffman reported a source close to Williams says he maintains his respect for the Redskins owner because he feels Snyder helped save his life. “It wasn’t his fault. He’s not down there in the training room. It’s not on him. It’s not on anybody. I had a very rare form of cancer; my displeasure comes from how long it lingered and how it was neglected and how it almost cost me my life,” Williams told the media in October. I understand how you feel about it, but I'm more concerned with how Dan feels about it. If Dan and Trent are still friends I'm sure Trent will at least seriously reconsider coming back solely based on the removal of BA and the revamping of the training/medical staffs. |

If that’s the case then let Dan do the reconciliation. I still don’t like all the misinformation and refusal to have the medical records investigated to see what really went on. |

Talent trumps everything. Trent is still a very talented player, and selling him to the highest bidder creates another problem that has to be fixed this year. If nobody is willing to offer anything I'm not selling him, lets reconcile, let bygones be bygones, and postpone that problem for a year minimum. |

Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
Schneeds post 177 nails it.
Reach out to Trent and offer to extend him for 1 more year at a reasonable but guaranteed amount and guarantee next year at the current deals amount. If the amount can't be agreed on the parties shake hands and walk away. The Skins then go try to find a trade. You can even get a preferred teams list from Trent and try with those teams 1st. Either way, I think this relationship can now be salvaged. That's good for the team and it's good PR. |
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
Trent is still an VERY GOOD player, even at this age. Offer him a 2-3 year deal, with the idea to play him for 2 years while rotating young players like Martin to keep him fresh.
If he comes back he is still the best OL player on this team. By offering the olive branch it makes the team look more reasonable to players and agents. Bruce Allen was disliked and not respected by players/agents interested in the team. How many players skipped this team because Allen was a tool? If TW still wants out, then trade him for a 2nd and use it to draft the best OT available. This is a win-win for this issue. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Aging vets on the back end of a deal with no guaranteed money feel vulnerable and exposed bc one injury and they are cut with no parachute or soft landing. Giving an extra year plus guaranteeing the money would give a vet some comfort and sense of relief in case he does get injured. |

That's a hard line to draw in the sand after the Redskins have already made the commitment of getting rid of Bruce Allen and revamping the training/medical staffs. Only time will tell if you are correct or not. |
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
I don't think Trent will settle for a one-two year extension here. That would just put him in a tougher position to get another contract being two-three years older... It's probably going to have to be 4+ years or a trade. We'll see if he even changes his stance about wanting to return, but as always, money talks and will likely be the deciding factor.
|
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
Trade him. It's time to hit the reset button on everything. Outside of our young DL, Haskins, Scheriff, McLaurin, and Guice, everybody should be expendable.
|
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
Trent has said through his friend Adrian Peterson that he is “re-considering” the Redskins as an option. The same thing has been leaked to the media through other friends. It’s a possibility IF the Redskins want it, and they should.
Trent likes Dan Snyder and has repeatedly thanked him for doing stuff like flying TW to his hospital treatment in the Redskin’s jet. It really comes down to what Rivera wants. Trent will not take a one-year deal because he can get a far better deal in other teams. Offer him a 2 or 3 year deal with guaranteed money. That’s all he wants. The team has removed the other obstacles with the firing of BA and the medical staff. A second round draft pick (if we trade him) or two years of TW playing very good football. Several years ago he was at the top of the NFL in this position. He’s slide a little but still in the top 25% in this critical position. There is absolutely NO GUARANTEE that a second round pick will EVER get to where Trent is now. Finally, Trent has had a year to rest physically and mentally. Get a couple more years of play out of him, while drafting for his replacement. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
