Thank god. They should cut Reed early in the process so the market grows a lil larger with him on the street. |

I think Reed will also retire. If he tries to continue to play he risks damaging his health due to more concussions. CTE is no joke and the case of Aaron Hernandez is well known- he had a major case of CTE before his life descended into hell. If Reed decides to continue to play in the NFL, I don’t think the Redskins will resign him. He is too much of an injury risk after the last two years. He has so much potential but it means nothing if he can’t play in the regular season. I think that the big FA signing this season will be for TE. A big contract at this position will have the biggest impact for the team, for the money. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Re: Offseason Roster Moves Thread
With Kendall Fullers interception in the SB, it will cost more to bring him back. I thought we might sneak him back on the team but I guess that’s not happening.
I’m still amazed at how Andy Reid took Bruce Allen in the Alex Smith trade. Alex was going to be released anyway with Mahomes moving up. Yet, Reid played Bruce like a drum - getting a third round pick AND Kendall Fuller in the deal!! Fuller has an excellent final season with the Redskins. Andy Reid always played the Redskins for suckers, dumping Donovan McKnabb on us back in the day, AFTER he was washed up. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
CTE can only be accurately diagnosed post mortem, so while Hernandez might well have it it can't have been diagnosed. Besides there's no causal link to it making someone homicidal so it's a bit of a stretch to relate it to his behaviour. It's more likely to lead to depression and similar psychosis than make you homicidal. But yeah, Reed should hang em up after so many concussions not to mention the other injuries. |
Re: Offseason Roster Moves Thread
Olsen and Reed should join the retired list. No way I want either on this roster.

His criminal behavior, drug use and the crowd he ran with went back to High School. If you want an example of CTE's devastating effects look at someone like Junior Seau. |
Re: Offseason Roster Moves Thread
I’m not saying that’s Aaron Hernandez’s murders and criminal behavior were caused by CTE. But CTE causes constant blinding headaches and many other bad effects that destroy an ex-players quality of life. I think that Reed will quit the NFL, because he’s worried about destroying his post-NFL life.
Other young NFL players have or will do so in the future. Even if he doesn’t leave the NFL, the Redskins can’t gamble on his again. Besides the Redskins need his cap space to hire a new TE FA. I think the skins will spend big money on this position in FA. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Offseason Roster Moves Thread
Another young talented DE will be a FA.
edit - article calls him a DE but I think for sure he is a LB. ----------------------- The Atlanta Falcons announced that they will not pursue negotiations with defensive end Vic Beasley Jr., meaning the former NFL sack champion will become a free agent. "As we continue to craft our 2020 roster, we'd like to thank Vic for five years of effort on behalf of our organization,'' general manager Thomas Dimitroff said in statement on Monday. Beasley, who was coach Dan Quinn's first draft pick in 2015, taken eighth overall, did not show consistency despite leading the NFL with 15.5 sacks in 2016 -- the season the Falcons made it to the Super Bowl. Beasley made the Pro Bowl that year but managed just five sacks in each of the 2017 and 2018 seasons. Although Beasley had eight sacks this past season, 6.5 of those came in the second half of the season. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/28628180/falcons-offer-de-vic-beasley-new-deal-which-make-free-agent Rookie year he looked HOF but he has been inconsistent, not that I watch many Falcons games though. Is he really a DE now? I thought he was strictly a LB. Thought he was fast, kinda a sideline to sideline pursuit guy. He's listed at 6'3" and 245 lbs .. that too small to be an end in any system imo. Chase Young is 6'5" and 265. If he was reasonable and wanted to move back to LB, Id kick the tires for sure. No idea if Atlanta was playing him as a hand in dirt type but if they were ... yesh. He reminded me of CJ Mosley, who the Ravens let walk and signed a mega deal w the Jets. FA = talented edge rushers |
Re: Offseason Roster Moves Thread
I will be fine if we sign Beasley on a prove it one year deal although I cannot see how he will fit in the new defense. I suppose we could use him just for obvious pass rush plays but I imagine he will want to join a team where he will be a full time starter.

I imagine he will want north of 10M per w 60% or more guaranteed. I imagine he will get it. I also imagine this means they are signing TE Cooper to a LTD. I keep hearing fans on the radio talking about how much cap space we have and how this team will look totally different next year .... Re: Offseason Roster Moves Thread
The Redskins will have lots of cap room WHEN they trade/dump many of their current FA. The reason the Redskins are low on the cap room list right now is because the Redskins haven’t made those decisions yet. I think this week the Redskins management is on vacation. Next week they will start to evaluate the team to determine who is to be let go. Then they will need to figure out what positions need to be dealt with in FA / draft /UDFA.
The whole TE FA equation is being re-written by the Greg Olsen visit. He’s a one year hire for his ability to help Haskins, kind of like Alex Smith, except he will play. His hire, which I expect, will mean that instead of hiring an elite, younger and very expensive FA such as Hooper, the Redskins will hire a more a lower price TE and probably will draft a TE for long-term development. BL -I think the Redskins will hire Greg Olsen. He and RR have worked together and he will be used to help develop Haskins. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Yeah...one thing about Olsen is he is really tough, that would be a change versus the guys we have had before. My obvious concern would be if he is starting, then this would be kinda terrible as he will get hurt. I really hope we find a starter in Free Agency or draft |

Reed averaged 6 games the last 3 years, so if Olsen plays more than that it is a bonus. They need 3 new TEs, so they should have help if Olsen can not play 16 games. FWIW... a few years ago Olsen played 144+ games in a row, granted he is older now |
Re: Offseason Roster Moves Thread
I think the Redskins will hire Greg Olsen within a week. I think he will be hired at reasonable cost. The next question is who else will be hired at TE.
As I have said, I think TE is where the Redskins will spend the most of their FA money. I think it is still possible for the Redskins to hire an elite TE like Hooper or Henry - both who are in their 20’s. The combination of Olsen and let’s say Hooper will help Haskins greatly, especially in the Red Zone. The quest to get an elite TE like Hooper or Henry will be expensive as they are coveted by other teams. They will probably be record TE contracts. Getting two very good TE will also help the running game as they can both block as well as catch. The money to hire this TE plan will come from letting Reed go and also because Vernon Davis retired. I also think the Redskins will resign Trent Williams with a contract of guaranteed money that he wants. I give it a 50-50 chance the Redskins will sign Trent, Scherff and Flowers. Olsen will help mentor Haskins, like Alex Smith is doing. This can only help Haskins to grow. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Re: Offseason Roster Moves Thread
I agree if he's healthy and low cost. Even a 2 year deal as he's not past it yet. But not on the kind of money that Hooper or Henry would get.

I doubt Henry is going to hit free agency. Chargers will likely tag him, especially with Gate retiring and having to lure a FA QB (i.e. Brady). |
Re: Offseason Roster Moves Thread
If true that means Hooper will demand and get the big bucks. He’ll be one of the top paid TE, but we need him bad. Right now we have NOTHING at TE. Davis is retired. Reed will or should retire. This position is critical for the team and Haskins.
If the team can’t get Hooper or someone else (besides Olsen, who they will hire) then they’ll need to draft a TE with their third or fourth rounder but the draft is thin for this position. It might be better to use their draft pick for WR which is very heavy this draft. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Offseason Roster Moves Thread
One draft projection has us going for that TE from Stanford in the 4th round.

Re: Offseason Roster Moves Thread
Bradberry said he would love to play for Riveria again so I think this means there is a good chance we will look into Bradberry. On other note, Bradberry's comment about Riveria says a lot about Riveria's characters. I'm really excited to see what Redskins will look like in 2-3 years!
https://redskinswire.usatoday.com/2020/02/06/james-bradberry-would-love-play-ron-rivera-again/ Edit: one thing we need to think about - Dunbar will be free agent after next season, so we will need to figure out how much we will want to spend on the CB positions in the future. I don't think we can afford to sign a good CB and then resign Dunbar unless the salary cap increases significantly. |
Re: Offseason Roster Moves Thread
One draft projection has us going for that TE from Stanford in the 4th round.
There is decent depth in the TE projections. However, not having a second round pick and the Redskins needing help in so many positions (T,G,WR, TE, LB, CB, S) the 3rd and 4th round picks may have to be the best player available. If there is any way to add picks they need to do so. (not just trade #2 down) |
Re: Offseason Roster Moves Thread
Slow your roll with the Hunter Henry talk.
Dude has missed more games than Jordan Reed the last 2 seasons, seriously! He's never played 16 games in a season and is always on the injury report for something. We can't replace one broken down guy with another broken down guy. |
Re: Offseason Roster Moves Thread
Bradberry is just another AVG Corner, it's not like he was some lock down guy or even as good as Norman was in Carolina

You are right, I looked at his stats for last year and it wasn't anything special especially in 2nd half of the season. Bradberry never was on my wish list anyway, I want Byron Jones but I imagine he will be expensive to sign. |

Decent article from Keim. RB: The Redskins have until 22 days before the start of the new league year (March 18) to decide if they want to pick up the second year of Peterson's contract. One source said it was likely the Redskins would do so, but nothing is guaranteed. Meh...ok. You want to help take the pressure off your QB, develop a solid running game. The obvious problem here, unproven RBs with injury histories and an old RB. When the. Wheels come off of aging RB is tough to watch, and it’s not a question of if but when. Proactive, smart organizations get ahead of the situation, bringing AP back puts the RB group at a greater risk. One thing about receiver: “One source familiar with Rivera's plans says the coach wants to add another starting receiver, likely a veteran. The veteran would play opposite Terry McLaurin.” P Rich likely to go. He goes to highlight what I’ve said, bad WR free agent class. hope we don’t do something dumb. TE: Reed on their roster, but it's hard to imagine him sticking around. He missed all of last season with his seventh documented concussion. He hasn't played more than 13 games in a season since 2015 and, with a cap hit of $10.3 million, the math doesn't add up for a return. Good. |

His immense promise is offset by his injury history. Just like last year, he is one concussion from losing the rest of the season, again. They need his cap money. I imagine AP coming back because both Guice and Love have to show they can get through a season. He’s got a little fuel left in his tank. Great mentor and example. They need a WR#2 to push or replace Harmon. There are good WR in FA and the WR draft class is very deep. They might spent the FA money on a speedy WR then draft a TE OR vis-versus. They’ll hire Olsen for a one-year bandaid at TE and if they they use the third round pick for TE then Olsen can help this TE grow. We drafted Cooley at TE in the third round and he did very well for the team. BL - the Redskins have enough FA money to get a very good WR OR a TE FA (besides Olsen). They’ll draft to both positions and hope they get a winner in the draft or UDFA. Richardson and Norman will be dropped first. They need their cap savings. Reed will also be done with more feeling, since he is well-liked by this teammates and fans. Hopefully he retires like Davis did. The big question is Kerrigan - reduce his contract or trade him? He is a huge fan favorite (I have his jersey) but with Chase coming he’ll be too expensive as a backup. I hope he is traded to a contender. |
Re: Offseason Roster Moves Thread
I think they'll go into Camp with Guice, Love and AP, plus 3 or more FA. Maybe even a low round RB pick if they are BPA, though I suspect Smith will find someone good in UDFA.
They can then judge Guice and Love in camp/preseason and if they are 100%, they then have the option to keep AP as rotation cover or release or even trade him if they are lucky. Or do a 49ers committee and use everyone. I'd actually look at a pass catching FB like Juszczyk if we're lucky; would fit with the type of O I think Turner will run. Leaves us free to sign Olsen AND Hooper if the prices are right, or take one and draft a TE in the 3rd or 4th. Then we can pick another WR in the lower rounds. I agree aside from Cooper there isn't really a standout young WR in FA, and he's odds on staying in Dallas. |
Offseason Roster Moves Thread
Yeah, I’d rather hire the FA Greg Olsen AND Hooper at TE. Then we have fixed the TE black hole and both will be a powerful tool for Haskins. Then draft a WR with the third round for the WR #2. This draft pick can then compete with Harmon for the starting position. The WR pool is VERY deep and we should be able to get a good player. But WR is still a risk and AT BEST a 50-50 gamble, especially by the third round. Still if the new WR is a bust like Dotson and the legion of prior WR busts for the Redskins, we still have Harmon, who will get better.
Later rounds we draft for CB, OT, TE, OT. The same for the UDFA. It is amazing that Kyle Smith is able to get real starters out of the UDFA pool. Most teams use UDFA a way to get Special Teams players and maybe a backup spot before they are dropped at the end of their rookie contracts. It’s a constant flow to fill the ST and backup spots with cheap and young players. I hope Kyle Smith becomes our GM. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Offseason Roster Moves Thread
NBC Sports Washington's JP Finlay reports Redskins CB Quinton Dunbar does not intend to take part in the team's voluntary offseason workouts.
Dunbar's set to make $4.4 million in the the final year of his contract next season — a travesty considering Josh Norman accounted for $15 million off Washington's books just last year. Pro Football Focus' No. 3 corner among 209 qualifiers while healthy in '19, Dunbar has dealt with a number of injuries the past two seasons and is simply holding out from voluntary workouts to avoid unnecessary nicks and long-term damage. It remains unclear whether he wants a new contract from the franchise or would prefer to test the waters as an unrestricted free agent in 2021. |
Re: Offseason Roster Moves Thread
'While healthy' is the key term...I don't blame him though. He apparently has no guarantees, and he should be looking out for #1. I think today is the first day that Rivera and his staff will begin their evaluation of the players and this roster. No doubt Dunbar will be near the top of the list of this evaluation process. I would like to see him come back, along with adding more secondary depth. But we will see how this goes. I do hope that this is something that Dunbar communicated to Rivera before this being reported in the media. If not, that's not a great start for him with the new coach.
