Yes. The sound of the gun shooting outside the aircraft is “ BRRRT”. For the bad guys
that means they have 1-3 second left. Mostly though they just ran away - which is, you know, kind of frustrating! Thank you for the kind words. Now its up to the new guys, who have this amazing, cosmic shitte on the A-10C that I would have traded a non-removable and non-replaceable body part to try or use. It was frustrating using the same old gear, we were under-funded, analog, crap stuff. On one of my last flights I dropped a 1000 lb., laser-guided bomb from 8000’ altitude on a little card table and hit it!! They were just giving me a taste of the new bombs. Before that we had to do bombing with cheap DUMB bombs - hi angle, dive bomb with a constantly computing impact point - CCIP. Since dive bombing isn’t that accurate we needed to practiced dive bombing all the time. Six practice bomb passes for 1,000 flights or even 2,000 flights and you pull 4-6 g’ per pass. If you’re a 150 lb man that means you put 600 to 900 lbs of force on your spine 6-10 times a flight. Many American fighter pilots who retired out of the service now have bad spinal problems. I’m one of them. Two of my vertebrae are fused together and I’m in a lot of pain!!- Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Wow man...great stuff here. Thanks for your service. |

Original post was just updated to reflect that Trent is expected to be traded, freeing $12.5M in cap space if it happens.
Same cap space would be created if he were released, though not a likely scenario. |

Re: Redskins Salary Cap Status - 2020
IMO, the ideal time to trade Trent would be prior to the opening of FA. It would be beneficial to know that we have an additional $12.5M in cap space for FA.

I think for the same reason the teams trying to trade want to know whether they need to be in on a FA tackle or not, so I would think it happens before FA starts or around the draft |
Re: Redskins Salary Cap Status - 2020
I just wish the Redskin’s would really clean house and TRADE MOSES. He had a terrible 2019 season and we might get a PB & J sandwich for him - but more importantly we could use his cap money for a FA replacement and draft for OT and perhaps see if Martin can take that spot. He’s on my poop list.

I think the TW mess affected Scherff and Moses' play. They both had a real down year. I would rather get that side settled then add RT to the needs. Martin is a guard, not going to take over Moses' spot and produce even close to the same result. Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk |

The Trent Williams problem may take awhile to resolve a decent trade, PLUS then finding a replacement which may involve a number of avenues. I agree that Martin is probably not good enough for RT although I’d like to see him there in the preseason to try. The other channels to fill LT will be hiring an OT FA (low cost), then drafting at least one OT in the draft, plus more in UDFA. The idea is to see if one rookie can start or be a close backup to the FA we sign and maybe start later in the season. Likely they’ll give Moses this season to improve or be drafting for more OT in next year’s draft to replace him. They’ll also drop Christian this PS as he is obviously NOT the solution to replace Trent, Moses or even be a viable backup. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Redskins Salary Cap Status - 2020
The original post was updated to reflect the Redskins tagging Brandon Scerff with the non exclusive franchise tag, meaning he carries a cap hit of $16.1M (I previously had it counting as $14.5M which I think I got from last year’s numbers, so this update lowered the expected remaining cap room by $1.6M.)
They still have a good chunk of space available going into FA and they can create more by locking Scherff up to a long term deal which would lower his tag number. |
Re: Redskins Salary Cap Status - 2020
salary cap also looks like it will be lower than expected
|
Re: Redskins Salary Cap Status - 2020
ESPN article says it's going up about 10 million this season.
This should jump in 2021 with new TV deals now that the CBA is through 2030 (my own assumption). |

Although Cooper and Byron Jones May be available from the Cowboys in FA, I just don’t see the Redskins biting for either one.
Why not? Because both are going to be Uber-expensive. The Redskins have already franchise tagged Scherff for $16.1 mill. Although there are many suitors for TE Hooper, I predict the Redskins will WIN the bidding war for him. He’s the REDSKIN’s #1 target for 2020 FA!!That’s another $11 mill. Then they want to sign Flowers - $4-6 mill. For CB, I think Rivera will go for old Redskin’s Breeland AND Fuller. FS - ex-Panther Boston. For LB - Schobert from Cleveland. For OT and WR #2 and TE#2 I think that Rivera will see if Kyle Smith can draft our way out of these holes on the team. Whatever we get for Trent Williams-whether a second or two thirds, plus our actual third rounder will go toward getting an OT, TE and WR. For OT, the team will use the philosophy of throwing lots of jello on the wall to get something to stick - regarding getting getting a rookie OT to start. We will draft a bunch of OT’s, especially in UDFA , to get a winner and a project or two. Penn will be let go. Christian will be let go. TE in the draft is the backup to Hooper. WR in the draft will compete with Harmon. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Right now, with them talking about empty stadiums I don't see them increasing the cap. Of course that puts the Cowboys and Eagles into deeper hole, what a shame. |

Ticket revenue only goes to the owners (so does stadium naming rights and stadium usage, etc., etc.). If I'm not mistaken, the majority of the funding for the cap comes from TV deals, which the NFL is set to negotiate soon. Unless there is no football whatsoever, I don't see any changes to the cap IMO. |
Re: Redskins Salary Cap Status - 2020
Regardless of if it goes up the main point is we will be in better cap space than our peers in the division.

Re: Redskins Salary Cap Status - 2020
Read this tidbit about Morgan Moses in a piece on Hogs Haven ...
Moses is under contract until 2022, but, ironically, this contract may actually work against him if he can’t show significant improvement almost immediately. The Redskins brought in competition for Moses when they signed Cornelius Lucas in March. Right Tackle Lucas outperformed Moses in every measure in 2019 and offers the Redskins a relatively low-cost alternative. By cutting or trading Moses, the Redskins could save $4.85m in cap space in 2020 alone, but would reduce salary cap charges by $22.25m over the remaining three years of his contract. Lucas, by contrast, will cost the Redskins just $3.8m for the 2020 and 2021 seasons combined. Moses has been struggling for two to three seasons after playing very well in ‘15 & ‘16. His contract is relatively expensive at roughly $8.7m per season, he has struggled in pass protection, has been an absolute liability with regards to penalties, and the Redskins have a right tackle on the roster in Cornelius Lucas who outplayed Moses in 2019 and costs an economical $1.9m per year. Morgan Moses is definitely under pressure. |

https://overthecap.com/nfl-and-nflpa-look-forward-to-the-future-salary-cap/
That's a reasonable plan, to address a revenue hit this season. Hopefully the hit this season isn't nearly as bad as is being thrown around. Maybe these forecasts will turn out to be as wrong as the initial corona virus models were. And a lot of this will amount to "not much at all". The Skins are sitting pretty no matter what. |
Redskins Salary Cap Status - 2020
The latest new is that in 2021 the Redskins, with a new name, will have something like $74 mill in cap space. Fourth best in the NFL.
For this season I predict the team will pick up a few players in key positions after the PS player cuts. Especially at TE. Anyone they pick up right before our first REGULAR game will be on a one year, cheap, “show me” contract. The team has kept slots open on the team and has plenty of cap space. Players will look favorably on our franchise . We’re definitely are on the way UP, with a new HC, a young Qb, CHASE Young, etc.. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Redskins Salary Cap Status - 2020
There isn't much optimism that a long-term deal will be struck with right guard Brandon Scherff before the July 15 deadline to sign players on the franchise tag, a source said. Barring any changes over the next week, Scherff would play on the tag for $15.03 million. The Redskins have expressed a desire to keep him long term as part of their core while strengthening the rest of their offensive line. Scherff has made three Pro Bowls.

Re: Redskins Salary Cap Status - 2020
Scherff ... I honestly dont know what to do with him. Good arguments for either side
Pros for LTD: - he is an elite top 10-15 G - We do not have any other elite OL players - No real long term replacement on the roster - developing Haskins, can we afford to let our best OL walk? Cons - injury prone - has not played a full season in 3 years - played in 19 of the last 32 games - Not that hard to replace. Really good guards can be found in FA for less than the 15M AAV he is probably looking for -------------------------------- my bottom line -- im actually happy he will play on the tag. Let him prove he can stay healthy and play a full season. If he can play at an all pro level, make him the highest paid G. If he cant, consider the transition tag or something, let him walk. lesson learned -- NEVER FUCKING DRAFT AN IOL IN THE TOP 10 .. EVER. You can find good value IOL in rounds 2-5 and in FA. Round 1 picks should be for elite positions that you cant readily fill. |
Re: Redskins Salary Cap Status - 2020
If a deal doesn't get done and I'm Brandon Scherff, I'm hitting free agency. Hard.
|
Re: Redskins Salary Cap Status - 2020
Reportedly the Skins offered him 13M AAV last year but he declined. No idea how much of that was guaranteed money (which is the only thing that matters).
Zach Martin and Brandon Brooks are at about 14M AAV, 4 years, with 40% guaranteed. 4 yrs, 56M with 23M guaranteed would be an equivalent offer. ---------------- If he doesnt stay healthy this season i dont think he gets 14M AAV |
Re: Redskins Salary Cap Status - 2020
When it comes to the cap, I'm clueless.
But maybe someone here can help me figure out how much of our cap room can be used to re-sign our stud draft picks who's rookie deals are coming up, and what that leaves for chasing talented free agents in the free agent market. It seems to me that the key to long term success for us, is the ability to not only go get great free agents, but to hang onto our high end draft picks that have paid off. |
Re: Redskins Salary Cap Status - 2020
I believe dumping Trent gave us quite a bit of cap room and we're in really good shape.
We have some holes, we should start buying and fixing them. Mainly left tackle, unless we trust Morgan Moses and Sadiq Charles...the secondary...and tight end still. There's also a good chance we'll need to replace Scherff after this year. |
