Re: Welcome to DC Chase Young!
I agree with mooby, and If it was 3 games into his rookie season that would be different, but year 2 you should be improved, not regress

Oof. My post was being 100% sarcastic. We only know him from what we get to see from games and PR clips/interviews off the field. We have no idea how much work he puts in, or what time he arrives every day, or what he works on when he is there. So unless you or someone you know works at Football Team Park it's hard to really know him or how much work he's putting in. And ultimately that's what matters - is he putting in the work necessary but not getting results? Until we see otherwise I choose to believe so. |

Re: Welcome to DC Chase Young!
I don't really care about individual performances. CY's sacks, or lack thereof don't tell me much about how the entire unit is doing, and that is what matters.
As a unit, they have six sacks which is 16th in the league. Probably not where we thought they would be - middle of the pack. As a unit, they are ranked 2nd in the league in QB pressures - hurries/knockdowns/sacks (5th percentage wise). |
Re: Welcome to DC Chase Young!
The criticism of Young if any is that he is trying too hard to be the guy who makes the play and turn things around, which on Sunday was leaving gaps for the QB to step up into. He is young and plays with a little too much emotion at times. I think that what was Ron was alluding to

Re: Welcome to DC Chase Young!
Gotta get more from the back seven. That's the real issue.

Yeah he's freelancing too much, needs to play within the scheme. |
Re: Welcome to DC Chase Young!
I disagree - we haven't seen anything to indicate he's putting the work in. But we do have a whole rack of commercials and game shows he's done - obviously doing those things with his free time indicates he's only in this for the money and fame.
I knew as soon as I read this someone would take it the wrong way. |

Sophomore Slump A sophomore slump or sophomore jinx or sophomore jitters refers to an instance in which a second, or sophomore, effort fails to live up to the relatively high standards of the first effort. |

I don't give a damn what players do with their free time, as long as they don't get in trouble. People should care only what they do during camps, practices, and in the game, period. |

Mooby your sarcasm went so far undercover lol

Re: Welcome to DC Chase Young!
Couldn’t watch game, seen a few highlights and checked box score. So I know stats don’t always tell the story,so he had 4 tackle today(instead of his average of three)and huge penalty that didn’t cost us the game but cmon man! So much for the 2 sacks :banghead: But by all means lets keep making excuses for him.
Am I ready to give up on him? Of course not,but we desperately need him to snap out of this funk |
Re: Welcome to DC Chase Young!
Yeah well like I said in the other thread if someone on our staff cannot fix him than someone else needs to take their job and fix him. This isn’t a sophomore slump it is a sophomore missing persons.
If our defense was playing half as bad as it was right now we would be really good. |
Re: Welcome to DC Chase Young!
CY has been flat out bad folks but in all fairness the whole d has been.. 0 Sacks in 4 games is scary bad tho

Re: Welcome to DC Chase Young!
Through four games, Chase Young has tallied more penalties (4) than sacks (0) + takeaways (0) + tackles-for-loss (3) combined.

That is not good! I listened to Al Galdi’s podcast this morning,he was told by some coach(I cannot remember the guys name) who has studied the film on Young from this year and this coach says that Young has been out of position on 50% of his plays! 50 fking percent! We can blame coaches all we want, but players have to play within the scheme and Chase is fking it up big time |
Re: Welcome to DC Chase Young!
Keyshawn “ I think people looked at Chase Young and saw his dreads and saw his huge body flying around and thought he was the next great thing and the truth is that defense is not very good”

Re: Welcome to DC Chase Young!
Brilliant analysis by Keyshawn. Dude gets paid for that?

Re: Welcome to DC Chase Young!
Sacks aside, some of Chase Young's numbers this season (per Next Gen Stats) are actually better than or close to where they were after his first four full games of 2020 (excluding Week 3 of 2020, when he was limited by injury, and Week 4, which he missed):
First four full games of 2020 (Weeks 1, 2, 5 and 6): 9 pressures, 9.6% pressure rate, 3 hurries, 3.80 seconds time to hurry, 2 QB hits First four games of 2021: 12 pressures, 8.9% pressure rate, 8 hurries, 3.34 seconds time to hurry, 2 QB hits -Gil Brandt |
Re: Welcome to DC Chase Young!
^ Interesting.
People get way too caught up in sacks like that's the end all be all stat. The sacks will come. |
