Lol only a few days into the training camp, we are already labeling rookies a bust?
Well .. to be fair it was the second we drafted him. I just dont like taking LT after round 2. I know, I know .. its completely arbitrary and way too soon.

---------------------------

ASHBURN - Watching football practice in August requires near-constant internal reminders to not overreact, but through the first two days of padded practices for the Washington Football Team, rookie left tackle Saahdiq Charles has not been on the field.

When asked about Charles' absence on Tuesday, Washington head coach Ron Rivera called the injury minor. The coach also made clear he had no intention of providing much injury information.

Without Charles on the field third-year pro Geron Christian has been getting the bulk of the work at left tackle with the starting offense. Veteran free-agent addition Cornelius Lucas has been getting reps also and seems like the primary backup.

It's far too early to draw conclusions on Charles.

RELATED: RIVERA WANTS DIFFERENT THINGS FROM HASKINS AND SMITH

He's missed two consecutive days of practice, but they happen to be the first two days of practice media has attended.

It is worth noting, however, that Charles hasn't even been out on the field during the portion of practice the media can watch.

As a comparison, fourth-year defensive end Ryan Anderson missed Tuesday's practice but was on the sidelines during the session and was back at practice on Wednesday. Rivera also described Anderson's injury as minor.

Washington drafted Charles in the fourth round out of LSU where he showed plenty of talent but also missed games to suspension. Washington conducted plenty of research on Charles before the draft and the team believes any issues are in the past.

I do think I heard RR say he has a minor injury that they're being cautious with.

Rivera said one thing he likes about Haskins: "He's still learning and he's listening. That's another positive, a young guy that wants to listen and wants to grow. That's a huge deal for us. Real pleased with the coachable nature of our guys."

Fair enough, must have missed that, though a little curious he isn't out watching and absorbing while practice is ongoing at the least

Does anybody know if Ron has talked about why Charles isn’t on the field? A minor injury...but not even off to the side working? Just sounds strange

A name I keep hearing, Steve Sims.

Per NFLN Jack Del Rio is plan B as HC if Ron has to step down...

Also with Charles being injured with a Calf

The team worked out 5 offensive linemen this morning. They expect to have an announcement coming soon on 2 potential signings.

I really liked him when he was here in Bmore. No nonsense runs a tight ship. I am looking forward to his D for sure.

Moss is gone (foot) but if he clears waivers, which is likely he'll probably be back on IR.

Re: WFT 2020 Training Camp

In the second episode of this year's Hard Knocks, Ramsey says to a rookie DB "If you're watching the QB you gonna watch him complete passes on you".

It's so obvious to me, and in the past it was infuriating to watch our LBs in particular get manipulated by opposing teams' QBs when playing zone...
I hope that's one thing we won't see anymore ! Very good DBs can take the chance and read QB eyes every now and then and make picks because of it, but IMO it's always safer to play your assignment and watch the guy/zone you're supposed to cover.

Not familiar with RR and Del Rio's styles enough to know how they're coaching it though.

https://www.nbcsports.com/washington/washington-football/camp-notes-822-ron-rivera-lights-washington-after-another-lackluster-session

Everything I’ve heard is the offense looks terrible so far (yes defense always ahead of offense, but still). Ron apparently was pissed with the effort and lit their ass up.

Greg Stroman had a pick today and has played well through four days of training camp. He could be on the 53-man roster when cuts come down in a few weeks. Jimmy Moreland also grabbed an INT and is definitely on the roster. It seemed like the defensive staff gave Kendall Fuller some time off today so they could watch Moreland more in depth.

Adrian Peterson and Antonio Gibson looked quite impressive on Saturday. Peterson showed burst and Gibson seemed to be involved on nearly every play. Those two and Bryce Love look like they will have a large role this fall.

Rivera said that Washington is making a point to have Terry McLaurin on the field for all of Haskins’ snaps, and the QB is giving his star wideout plenty of chances. Haskins seems to go to McLaurin as often as possible and isn’t gun shy to give the WR chances on jump balls.

Linebackers Kevin Pierre-Louis and Shaun Dion Hamilton had good days, flying to the football.

Troy Apke looks somewhat cemented as the starting free safety alongside Landon Collins. That’s unexpected but Rivera said he likes what he sees thus far from Apke. The former Penn Stater has plenty of speed and hitting ability but struggled with his pursuit angles in the past.

Re: WFT 2020 Training Camp

Thanks for sharing the article, Chico. I should start going to that website for the updates.

It seems like Barber will be the odd man in the RB committee, I'm glad to see that Love is doing really well. It's still too early but I think there's a good chance we will have a "problem" with deciding who should carry the ball, which is a good problem to have.

I'm still surprised about Apke, but it shows how much work Apke has put in. If Apke actually becomes a full time starter, it will only further shows how great Kyle Smith is at drafting.

Re: WFT 2020 Training Camp

It could also signal good coaching; you can't coach speed and hitting ability but the rest...

Lots of good stuff here.

-- Looks like Logan Thomas is excelling. And splitting Haskins out wide, for Thomas to run the wildcat?? Things that make you go hmmmmm.
-- Haskins was sharp yesterday.
-- The D made lots of plays too, so it falls in the category of "you can find good news, or bad news, on every play".
-- AP is timeless.
-- Bryce Love and McKissic stood out.

Agreed.
Maybe it's because between BA being gone, RR starting a new regime, and the name change, it truly feels like a complete new era and we don't know how much the team will be different, and we have no pre-season to get a (completely flawed) sense of what it'll look like, but I don't remember us being THAT caught up in every single practice in previous seasons.

Washington cuts Cody Latimer. Not a surprise at all given his situation. Wanted to let league investigate but this was almost assuredly going to happen all along.

When reports leak that Logan Thomas is standing out, that is where I just have to tune this stuff out. I just can't get excited about that. If he ends up as our starting TE then that is not good at all.

It’s all been about Baugh making some nice early practice plays at TE; with Thomas passing him the last couple days. I read Thomas had two TD passes yesterday or Saturday. As you said Sprinkle is doing nothing to impress. I see Thomas as a starter, with Baugh showing some talent. Let’s see is he can keep up the catches and be the Cinderella story of this training camp?!

Normally I’d agree with you, but without OTA’s, Preseason games, etc this is all we have! So each good play, catch or INT is magnified far more than a normal preseason practice.. Also, several positions were NOT SET before these practices. Players on one year contracts are also striving to get noticed. There are mighty battles for TE, S, WR#2, LT and even QB to name a few spots. So that one extra great play that we see may be what gets him play time in the first games!

I do agree that having no-preseason, among other factors, magnifies every thing about this TC.
But I don't think we can get much valuable intel from day to day TC reporting. Coaches see way more and different things than us and reporters.
Honestly I'm hooked and want to know as much as I can, but part of me knows we gotta accept we kinda have no clue at all until week 1.

Good experienced reporters and pundits have pretty much as good an eye for skills and techniques as a good coach. They can usually see the difference between a training camp hero and a true star. Its knowing who to listen to above the otherwise run of the mill feedback. I'm not sure who that would be myself currently. Anyone?

Him and JP seemed to have the hand on the pulse of the team. Keim I’ve noticed really gets quiets with rumors....I usually can guess which are true and false. If false he will usually tweet quickly untrue...if true or some level of truth, he is usually silent and waits for announcement before commented. So he is doing the right thing.

Ben Standing of the athletic is growing on me when it comes to analysis.

Sheehan and Cooley analysis and opinion is worthy of consideration...They give good fan takes of team...
