Re: WFT 2021 Pre-Season Games Thread

I would keep out any injury concerns, no need to push players recovering like Matty I or even AG, but in general you want these guys to get game conditioning.

Re: WFT 2021 Pre-Season Games Thread

After re-watching the game, couple of random notes:

+Cosmi did really good, some clean up to do, but he's a starting NFL tackle right now
+Fitz and Heinicke played really good. A part from the missed TD opportunity to Hemmingway by Taylor, neither of them left anything big on the field IMO
+St Juste seems to be at ease out there, we have nice depth at CB (and DB in general)
+Saahdiq Charles improved quite a lot, if he stays healthy he can become a quality back up LT for now

-Hemmingway had a really bad game, a blatant drop and some ridiculous missed blocks, we're thin at TE behind Logan
-Wes Martin sucks, cut him now

Re: WFT 2021 Pre-Season Games Thread
Feels like we're kinda ignoring the part of preseason is to help our key guys get their conditioning ready to play 4 quarters. You can't just go from playing 1 quarter worth of snaps in the preseason to 4 quarters in the regular season.

I thought the idea behind 3 preseason games was to basically eliminate the 4th game where no starters played anyways. The first 3 preseason games should follow the routine of previous years, i.e. the 3rd preseason game your starters should play 3 quarters so they're ready for week 1.
they do it in college every year. college games are longer w/ more plays being run because the clock stops for a bit after every first down plus again when someone goes out of bounds.

i think you play your starters for a couple quarters in pre season - but not anymore than that.

Re: WFT 2021 Pre-Season Games Thread

I'd play the starting offense until they score a damn TD - in both games. They have to score...period. Yeah there's an injury risk - that's football. But damn, can the starting O just score some points?

Lamar Miller and Kelvin Harmon released. Sorry to see that for Harmon - would like to have seen a little more to see what he has, but of course the coaches see him every day. That injury really derailed things for him.

Agreed about Harmon, he looked slow in the training camp. I had hopes for him after the rookie year.

Both Miller and Harmon have time to get on another team and play in the last preseason game. I think they both have a shot at making some team's 53.

Not a huge surprise for either one. Nice that they cut them early so they have a chance to get on with another team.

WR position is deep...

Patterson is going to make this team.

Patterson is definitely making the team. Sucks for Harmon but I think it says more about our depth.
Patterson is definitely making the team. Sucks for Harmon but I think it says more about our depth.
He definitely looked like a natural running back v. NE. Clearly has good hands. The one he had near the end zone was impressive. A lot of receivers couldn't have caught that. Intriguing player for sure.

Re: WFT 2021 Pre-Season Games Thread

I can't recall if it was from Ron directly but heard somewhere over the weekend that they would be trying Patterson as a punt returner which is interesting. If he is going to be on the roster as RB4 he will need to contribute on STs, looks like they are looking for a good reason to keep him. Need to see what hos pass blocking is like

Harmon won't be going to the PS, let go too early for that, if they wanted him on the PS he would have been released in the final cuts when so many guys are available that they can sneak him on. Was playing well down the pecking order on Thursday.

Burrow not playing this Friday v. WFT:

Sheehan said on his podcast he's not freakin out over not seeing Davis flash all over the field in his first pre-season game, saying MLB is a "very cerebral position".

I think he has a point. MLB is the most complicated position on defense, you have to know perfectly everybody's assignment (run and pass) on every play, because it influences yours. So I think it's a position which we need to be patient with.

Just want to see improvement until he's there. Kid has high potential.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yes valid point. Doubt he ever wants to see our defense again. Burrow has talent and still think he can have a good NFL career. Doing it in Cincy will be tough but Ja'Marr Chase will help.

Mark Bullock has started his own substack (paid blog basically) for anyone interested since The Athletic didn't renew his contract. His breakdowns are always enjoyable for me and definitely more in-depth than your average fan analysis. Just finished reading a couple of his latest pieces breaking down Jamin Davis and Dyami Brown's performance against the Pats. Worth the $5/mo imo.

Mark Bullock is great. I can't get myself to pay for sports analysis sites. But if I had The Athletic and they didn't keep him, I'd cancel my subscription.

I'm 38 going on 68. I hear Reddit and Substack all the time, but really don't know what they are.

Oh, and get off of my proverbial lawn (I live in a condo complex, I don't have a lawn).

I know of only two people that use Substack, the other is a political writer with a huge Twitter following.

Feel like it's like Onlyfans - only with serious writers posting quality journalism instead of nudes. I subbed to Bullock because it's harder to find quality sports journalism and in-depth breakdowns for the WFT like he does - and he does a great job of it. $5/mo is worth the price of admission for me.

At least Taylor can run some … that adds another dimension to the O … we may end up seeing both Fitz and Taylor getting a lot of time … what is the rule on announcing the start Qb for upcoming games? You could mess with the Other teams D plan by waiting till sat to announce it …

People acting like we're gonna get 4k, 28/14 out of Fitz need to tone down their expectations. He'll get 4k - but it will be with a 60% completion rate and 28/22 ratio. He's gonna have his off-the-mark passes more than people expect.
