Snyder naming the team the Commanders was his last big, huge, fuck you to all the fans. Picks a name most people don't like, then bounces. I hate that fucker.
No worries when he leaves the name goes with him. |
Re: Dan Snyder Hires Bank Of America To Potentially Sell Washington Commanders
I heard that interview.
No chance a new owner goes through another re-branding.
Oh, I think it is a certainty. No way a new owner is going to stick with a name picked by the most unpopular owner in NFL history. Additionally, the name itself is extremely unpopular. A new owner will jump at the chance to put his stamp on the team while simultaneously ingratiating himself with the fans. It's a lock that the name Commanders survives only as long as Snyder owns the team. |
Re: Dan Snyder Hires Bank Of America To Potentially Sell Washington Commanders
Why would anyone want Elon Musk as an owner?
Why would you want to replace a publicly relatively quiet piece of shit with no clue about football that can´t leave his hands off daily business with a publicly loud mouthed piece of shit with no clue about football that can´t leave his hands off daily business? |

I think "lock" is quite the overstatement. But I do think ruling out a renaming because it's unheard of to have a team be renamed twice in the span of a few years is disregarding the specificity of this situation. Whoever buys this team, will, to a certain extent, buy it because of the fame and spotlight that goes with it, so I don't think it's absurd to anticipate that this person would be sensitive to the ego boost of getting to pick the name of one of 32 NFL Teams, that'll most likely stick for many decades/centuries... And don't tell me it's a lock the NFL wouldn't approve another name change, someone who can buy a 6 billions dollars franchise has the means to pleads his case, and this name having been picked by the most despised owner in the league, it wouldn't be such a difficult case to plead. If someone bought the Cowboys or the Patriots today, they would have zero interest and zero point in changing the name, but Commanders isn't a brand anybody is attached too yet, so the name going away isn't absurd at all IMO. That's an awful lot of way too early speculation though. Let's see who buys this team first. |
Seat Geek is the main sponsor. My question to Seat Geek is who is buying tickets? Fed Ex Field ( I think) has the lowest attendance in the NFL. People are still not buying tickets. The rebrand may be good for the bringing in some funds but it hasn't filled the stadium. It hasn't made people buy tickets. It hasn't made the fanbase come out to the games.
According to ESPN you are correct last in NFL. I don't care if you are a minor investor, small business owner or a billionaire, I you see a 30% increase in sponsorship revenue I think that is significant. Eventually they do have to put butts in the stands but if this rebranding is as successful as those in the business community are viewing it then there is somethings in the works. I can envision a stadium at National Harbor with a renaming of MGM as MGM Commander's Casino, etc. This is kind of the concept the business people within Commanders are thinking. Turning it to an experience and not just a team to go see on a Sunday afternoon. Back to ticket sales, what percentage of decline in tickets is due you think is because of the product on the field? Poor stadium experience? Owner? Off the field fiascos? For me: Product on the field? 10% Poor stadium experience? 40% Owner? 40% Off field stuff? 10% I think |

You guys are getting your panties in bunches.
Elon and Bezos are not micromanagers. Nor is Byron Allen or Todd Boehly. Dan Snyder was, he meddled because he was a fan above all. Who owns the team next isn't nearly as impactful as the fact that they're not Dan Snyder. Anybody but Dan, who it is almost doesn't matter, it will be miles better by default. |

Seriously the fact we are arguing about preferred owners shows how fucked up this franchise has become. The owner should be such an after thought.

I’m on board with anyone not named Snyder.

The owner should just be a guy cashing his dollars in and making a couple of decision every now and then... But we're all shell chocked after decades of Snyder... and while it's fair to say we had the worst owner in the league so it can't be worse... Some other NFL teams have constantly been really bad for a very long time too, and ownership has to have had an impact in them losing so much, so it's not like "hey Snyder is gone, we're automatically going to get a guy that's gonna make a functional organisation out of this franchise" either. In short, you don't want to go from being the Snyder owned Redskins to being the Browns... |
Re: Dan Snyder Hires Bank Of America To Potentially Sell Washington Commanders
It honestly surprises me how much attention this story is getting across so many platforms. I mean, he's the best owner we've had since JKC...
But seriously, surely he must be aware of ALL the hate coming his way with so many outlets - even a lot of non-affiliated people - hoping this is him getting out. Nobody can be THAT oblivious can they? |
Re: Dan Snyder Hires Bank Of America To Potentially Sell Washington Commanders
Question. When the new owner comes in, and obviously that may take some months and we don't know who it will be, but, does Ron and the front office get another year to show their stuff or is there an immediate cleanout of FO and coaching staff to remove the Snyder stench. Do they slash the roster to maximise draft picks and cap space for a new regime. Does the new owner sell the farm to get a name QB in the building.

All great questions and nobody knows. The answers will largely depend on how we close out the season. I highly doubt any of the guys interested in bidding have given any thought yet to how they’ll handle football leadership. They will probably need to see how the team fares down the stretch before making any decisions, just like the rest of us. I think the one thing you can count on is the new owner will make level headed decisions and hire the best football leaders possible and get out of the way. |
Re: Dan Snyder Hires Bank Of America To Potentially Sell Washington Commanders
I would be surprised if, presuming this is finalised in the off season, any prospective owner hasn't at least got a managerial staff lined up. I would bet every managerial position between owner level and HC would be under immediate threat, and once appointed, a now GM would talk to the HC and decide. Be surprised if there wasn't a complete clear out with the new owner looking at bringing in someone young and hungry. Wouldn't surprise me if they lured someone like Sean Payton out of retirement.

Re: Dan Snyder Hires Bank Of America To Potentially Sell Washington Commanders
New ownership means a house cleaning. That's just how it goes in any kind of business. I would expect almost everyone to be gone on the football and business side.

No one will be able to outbid Bezos and he's already a DC guy so it makes too much sense. Curious to know how the other owners and rest of the league would feel about this. Radical difference from Snyder it would be. |

Re: Dan Snyder Hires Bank Of America To Potentially Sell Washington Commanders
So Matthew McConaughey apparently wants in on the Bezos/Jay-Z group. Fine by me. I like the idea of a guy with a Texas drawl trolling the Cowboys in an ownership role.
I had read an article somewhere that said that Snyder won't sell to Bezos because he hates the WaPo. Someone might tell him that if he thinks he's hated now, it's nothing compared to the reaction that will arise if his pettiness gets in the way of a sale. Channel your inner Steve Miller -- take the money and run. |

But if Bezos outbids by a significant percentage I don't think he'd turn it down. Not rational. Look back at all of Dan's behavior, he often took actions he didn't want to in the name of preserving the revenue stream. Changed the name to WFT to keep sponsorships. If he's willing to change the name away from his beloved Redskins, he's willing to sell to Bezos. |

I heard he paid 780 Million For team .. he has been owner since 1999? IF he sells for 7 billion then that’s one of the top profits ever made on a sale of a team .. it’s hard to imagine 7 BILLION Dollars ..

the Commies are getting absolutely thrashed on Twitter for this statement. It's hard to believe we've progressed so much in terms of Snyder exploring the option of selling the team - only to be reminded like this that there is so much organizational rot still to clean up. Who the fuck authorized this statement? |
