Re: 2013 Free Agents
The other thing about Ellerbe is that he is very, very injury prone.
Keep this in mind, he was a backup the previous 3 years and this year he started 7 or 8 games, and was still injured/playing with numerous injuries. In those 3 years he wasn't starting and was a back up/package player/special teams guy, he was still missing time with injuries. So ask yourself, do you really want a guy who when healthy, which is a rare sighting, is a top 20 MLB at best? And also, do you think the Ravens who just lost Ray Lewis and McClain has a neck/spine injury, are going to let this guy walk? And if they do let this guy walk, maybe you can blame money, but I would think it would be a major concern to see them let him walk away in FA, that would be a red flag to whichever team signs him. Someone said he's a Dexter Jackson signing waiting to happen, they may be right. |
I'm all for cutting Hall, however I do see why people want to keep him being that theres not many starting caliber CBs out there.
People have thrown out the names Greg Toler and Leodis McKelvin, but a lot of these CBs in the draft are as good or better than those guys.
thank you. amen |
Re: 2013 Free Agents
I get we need to draft a guy, but I don't think we are better served now by going with Wilson and four 2 2nd yr and 2 rookie year guys.
We need at least two CBs with playing experience. If not three. I could be wrong. We can't doing anything but get better though I suppose. A pass rush will help tremendously; IE Carricker and Rak back healthy. |
Re: 2013 Free Agents
It needs to be said that the Redskins may not be able to keep DHall even if they want to. I mean, how much of a pay cut we he have to accept for it to make sense for both sides for him to stay? Maybe 50% or more, I would think. He might not want to do that.
To me, it's unthinkable for the Skins to consider giving him a multi-year contract with bonuses or guaranteed money. Like it or not, the best alternative may be to simply cut him. To me, that means the Skins will need to pick up a CB in FA and draft a good one, as well. |
Re: 2013 Free Agents
Jairus Byrd has been franchised. There goes one prospective secondary player off our radar.

My moneys on Michael Johnson, Pat MacAfee, Henry Melton, and Ryan Clady....not that I already knew this almost a week ago like the rest of NFL fans.. |

Way to be a cynical @ hole. It just happened on Friday. No one had posted it yet, so I thought I would. Why don't you take your rude childishness to ES board. You'd fit in perfect there. Edit: Okay so I just went back to look and saw Matty posted it on Friday. Missed it somehow. You still need to get over yourself Cult. |

Future reference though, is to see the date of the news article and if it is greater than one day, more than likely its already been posted on this site at least once. And Randy Starks has just been franchised along with Anthony Spencer today |
Re: 2013 Free Agents
I say be patient with free agency this year and wait until after the draft to sign a veteran safety, cornerback, and right tackle - unless there is a player that is under the radar that you can get with a very good deal early on. They need to at least sign a quality veteran cb and veteran ot because there seems to be a number of them with starting experience - especially at cb. The 2nd round pick should be focused on the best safety in the draft unless there is an immediate impact player that drops down to them.
That would be my strategy with needs and free agency. Draft first then fa because of the redskins cap situation this year and the depth in the draft and fa. |
Re: 2013 Free Agents
My last post doesn't sound very exciting, but in recent history- a successful offseason is made with a great draft, the resigning of key players, and underrated, quiet free agency with relatively inexpensive deals.

Re: 2013 Free Agents
It rarely works out when your free agency signings get the most attention. Especially if you sign a top free agent.
|
Re: 2013 Free Agents
My strategy with the top player in free agency is - DON'T sign him. Here's some recent examples: Mario Williams, asomough, Haynesworth.

Or Cyprien, Ryan Harris, and a veteran cb with starting experience like Routt, mike Jenkins, Tracy porter, Adam jones, or better- who by the way are 3 near the bottom of the list of free agent cornerbacks. They could get a number of guys that could be solid starters and also get tyrann matheiu or another cb in the 3rd round in the draft. |
