Face it , the holdouts want to run(chair) certain Committees and that is the problem
|
Re: The Most Fresh & Cordial Political Thread Ever
I think the brilliant part here is being played by the Democrats. They are sitting back letting the GOP really ruin their own image. It's not like they can go back home and blame the Dems for this shit. This is squarely on the GOP. What a clown show. Even Hannity is saying it is.

Not only that, but they are wanting Kevin to throw out certain Dems on committees. That shit isn't going to fly, because as soon as the GOP lose the house again, the Dems will strip any GOP they want from a committee assignment. I imagine Kevin isn't going to sign on to something like that. |

Hopefully, he just lost on his 10 vote. It's not looking good. |
Re: The Most Fresh & Cordial Political Thread Ever
This must be unprecedented. Didn't really register until seeing a clip of Maxine Waters being upset she actually had to work, that democrats have to keep voting too, for house speaker. I hope this goes to 100 attempts.

You consider this work for congress? I am surprised you are enjoying this. I thought you would be annoyed about politicians sitting around getting paid doing nothing for the country. |
Re: The Most Fresh & Cordial Political Thread Ever
Progressives now putting their fingers in the their ears pretending in 2020 when they had the same leverage with Pelosi…they didn’t do the samething and simply got in line like the COWARDS they are.
It’s because they rather keep fundraising off the same lies, than actually do anything Maxine Waters…lol. Lives in a multi million dollar mansion, profiting of American tax payers while keeping her own constituents broke, desperate and most of all, dumb with her bullshit promises. Same democrat shithole with poor education, poverty and violence problems…their only solutions is to ask for more money to burn thru and never get results |

Well, when you put it this way, lol, it's not quite as enjoyable. But 99% of them don't do anything I want for this country when they are "doing something" anyways. |

That is true. I don't care if it takes them all year. I embrace chaos it makes me feel like I have some semblance of self control and maturity. |
Re: The Most Fresh & Cordial Political Thread Ever
Personally I think it would be great if the dems went to McCarthy said we will give you the votes as long as no one from freedom caucus is ever allowed to chair a committee while he is house leader a big f you to a bunch of crazies

I was hoping Byron Donalds was gonna hold on. I really like how he explains the issues to the voters. He has a good disposition and is a do’er. |

15 time is the charm and he did give in to the Freedom Caucus. |

By my count, this is Biden’s 60th trip to Delaware, spanning 192 days. Compares at same point in presidencies to:
Trump - 18 visits to Mar-a-Lago/79 days GWBush - 19 trips to his Texas ranch/141 days. |

Re: The Most Fresh & Cordial Political Thread Ever
Well one thing the MAGA wing can now be pounded on is their mantra of draining the swamp. What could be more swampy and contribute to the deeping of "the swamp," than demanding and succeeding in eviscerating the House ethics board and blocking ethics investigations?

Re: The Most Fresh & Cordial Political Thread Ever
I see a lot of coping today. Looks like Joe mishandled classified documents himself and couldn’t have de-classified them as VP doesn’t have that legal ability.
https://www.newsweek.com/joe-biden-classified-documents-remarks-haunt-him-1772585 Joe Biden's Classified Documents Remarks Come Back to Haunt Him Biden added: "And I thought what data was in there that may compromise sources and methods. By that, I mean, names of people who helped or et cetera. And it's just totally irresponsible." Since 2017? Agree Joe, very irresponsible |

Could easily put this in the WTF thread. So sad what is happening in Haiti, yet we have a policy under "white foot , brown foot" where we keep Cubans that flee their country and land in Florida but return Haitians to this

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/jan/10/haiti-no-elected-officials-anarchy-failed-state
That country feels broken beyond repair. Seems like the only possible answers are for either: Countries from outside of Haiti to come together and declare war on all the gangs, then set-up a democratic vote, and then stick around long enough to let it get established. Or Have an alliance of countries come together and make a decision to basically clear the island and let every single person that wants to leave go to 1 of those countries. Both of those options obviously come with lots of issues. And I don't know if that country has enough resources or economic future, to get outside countries to truly care about Haiti. It's really sad. Sucks for the millions of Haitians that are good people that just want to be able to have a decent life. |
Re: The Most Fresh & Cordial Political Thread Ever
Bmore, you know what actually does piss me off? D.C. operates like a stereotypical movie about high school girls.
Now republicans in the house are going to insist on all these investigations into random things, not because it will change anything, but because it's some sort of revenge. Chance to be adults? No thanks. I wish the message was simply, we're going to draft legislation to the best of our abilities in accordance with what our constituents want. For that reason alone, we want to represent our constituents. Both parties do an amazing job of keeping a shitty house but shifting the focus to the other side having an even worse house. If you have 10 piles of shit on your own floor, your neighbor having 11 piles, doesn't justify your 10 piles of shit. Fix your shit 1st, then possibly talk about other people's problems. It won't ever change under a 2 party system though. |

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/jan/10/haiti-no-elected-officials-anarchy-failed-state
I worked with a older guy from South Africa about 15 years ago who’s good friend was a some sort of civil engineer who worked extensively with Haiti during Clinton era and maybe post era. The US pour money like a spout into Haiti, advised and worked with the government to help the plight. I specifically remember this quote from him about what he said about Haiti after failing it…..the only way Haiti could succeed is if half the population died. |
Re: The Most Fresh & Cordial Political Thread Ever
Haiti's societal corruption is well documented but they suffer from problems beyond their control as well. The french had about three times the number of slaves as the Spanish but only a third of the island. There were significantly larger population with less land and resources to start, but the bigger issue is the island has a rain shadow.
The atmosphere has to rise over the mountains in the center of the island to get to Haiti. Doing so the air, cools condenses and drops all the precipitation on the DR side, leaving less precipitation for Haiti. Less precipitation less agricultural productivity. Less tree regrowth which is the dominant fuel resource in the country. No food and no fuel to cook it with or boil your drinking water. Your work friend is right the population exceeds the carrying capacity. Even then the corruption that would exist would make it fail. |

Eventually this will flood over the border more. 50 years ago making this a US territory would make sense if the government (s) would agree to it. Now... Anybody wonder if China or Russia would step in make a favorable political ally in our backyard? I wouldn't be surprised if China did this. |

Yup water diversion and ground water withdrawal increases are through the roof. There are some interesting technology propositions going out including water pipelines from the Great Lakes (bad idea) or water pipelines from Mississippi river ( a much better idea) but that won't stop future population growth in those areas. |
