“Regrettably, it reminded us of the Rodney King video, and unlike Rodney King, Tyre did not survive,” Crump added.

Crump’s co-counsel described Nichols as defenseless in the video. “He was a piñata to those police officers. It was an unadulterated, unabashed, nonstop beating of this young boy for three minutes,” lawyer Antonio Romanucci said during the press conference.

The police chief said the video will be released “in the coming days” and urged the community not to respond with violence and destruction. It was not immediately clear when the body camera footage would be released, but Crump said on Monday that it could be one to two weeks.

Already charged with 2nd degree murder and the video hasn't even been released yet.

My condolences to his family - I would be seeing red if someone I loved died in such a vicious manner.

The bad thing is that the shooter in 2014 was convicted of forcible entry that resulted in 2 murders (and given his conduct last month was probably the shooter then too). Reminds me of that Gerrard Butler and Jamie Fox movie where Fox makes a deal to let the primary killer go in order to get a conviction on his partner.
They should just napalm most of Chicago now. Put Philly, Baltimore on the Napalm list too

LAKELAND, Fla. — At least 10 people were injured Monday during a drive-by shooting in a central Florida neighborhood, authorities said.

During a Monday news conference, Lakeland Police Chief Sammy Taylor said that officers arrived on the scene one minute after a flurry of calls reporting gunfire in the neighborhood. Lakeland is located about 30 miles east of Tampa

According to Taylor, police found three victims on the scene, and witnesses told them seven more victims had been rushed to Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center via private cars. He said all the victims were adult males between the ages of 20 and 35.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/10-injured-targeted-lakeland-florida-020533052.html

Florida was 3rd with the highest gun deaths with 3,041 in 2020. California had 3,449. California has 39 million people .. Florida had 21 million.

Florida gun violence numbers are scary high. Right there with Texas and California but have half the population of those 2 States.

Misleading here…you are including suicides with total guns deaths which is easy to do because mainstream media like include it to skew the narrative

https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/pressroom/sosmap/homicide_mortality/homicide.htm

2020 homicides, which I imagine 95-97% committed with gun:

California leads the way in homicides with 2,368, Texas 2,212, Florida 1,530

Put that in context with murders in 2020 cities:
Chicago 774, Philadelphia 499, New York 447, Los Angeles 355, Baltimore 335

Also that shooting above was drug related

Why shouldn't suicides be counted? Research has shown that the removal of gun access from people with suicidal ideation has a decrease in number of attempted suicides and attempted suicides. 50% of suicides are impulsive decisions removing that opportunity for impulse saves lives.

Florida has a higher percentage of the groups (over 45) that commit suicide (until very recently the two highest levels were in those groups (last couple of years 25-34 has spiked). So suicides do skew their statistics. But, yes I think suicides should be considered in discussions.

I'd imagine white as well in Florida just because that is the oldest average age racial cohort.. 40-49 white males have had suicidal rates on the rise.

Intent, criminal acts, gun violence, mass shootings, etc..and then too insinuate Florida has shocking gun violence? Come on man…suicide is a separate discussion where gun access is relevant.

Like I said, it’s an easy mistake too make.

But seriously, how does Chicago have half the murderers of Florida? Chicago 2.60 million peeps vs Florida 22 million? That’s a serious problem where Dems leadership, justice system lead by Kim Fox has failed. Soft on crime policies failed, defund the police has failed.

Seems chico's girlfriend isn't getting paid enough for her part time job!

Earlier this week, the Republican representative from Georgia appeared on journalist Glenn Greenwald’s podcast and expressed concern about her congressional salary, which according to public records is $174,000 annually.

Greene told Greenwald: “Becoming a member of Congress has made my life miserable. I made a lot more money before I got here. I’ve lost money since I’ve gotten here.

Additionally, Greene complained about the amount of time her congressional work consumes, saying: “The nature of this job, it keeps members of Congress and senators in Washington so much of the time, too much of the time … that we don’t get to go home and spend more time with our families, our friends … or maybe just be regular people because this job is so demanding. It’s turned into practically year-round.”

In 2002, Greene's father sold Taylor Commercial, an Alpharetta, Georgia-based general-contracting company that he had founded, to Greene and her husband, Perry.[1][33][38] The couple are its vice president and president, respectively.[33]

Greene was listed as the chief financial officer of Taylor Commercial from 2007 to 2011,[1] but a 2021 Atlanta Journal-Constitution investigation determined that she had no significant presence at the company.[39] In 2011, Greene stepped down as the company's CFO and began CrossFit training.[39]

By 2012, Greene was working as a part-time coach at an Alpharetta CrossFit gym.[1] In August 2013, she co-founded a CrossFit gym, CrossFit Passion, in Alpharetta, along with Travis Mayer, a CrossFit athlete, before leaving the business in early 2017.[40] In a 2015 interview, Greene said that when she and Mayer founded the gym, they knew little about how to run a business.[39]

In 2021, Greene said that she became politically engaged during the 2016 Republican Party presidential primaries.[41] Beginning in 2017, she wrote 59 articles as a correspondent for the now defunct American Truth Seekers, a conspiracy news website,[13] and beginning in January 2018, 27 articles for Law Enforcement Today,[2][42] a pro-police fake news website.[43][44] In 2017, Greene visited Washington, D.C. to protest against a Republican gun control compromise.[45]

Greene was a top official of the Family America Project, a conservative group founded in January 2018. She was a moderator of the organization's Facebook group, in which members posted death threats against Democrats, bigotry directed at the Obamas, and support for multiple conspiracy theories, including claims associated with the John Birch Society about the U.S. government being infiltrated by communists.[46][a]

So got into it with a couple of co-workers over that 14 year old that beat that 9 year old. They want more punishment dished out than I think is appropriate. And of course one raised that the only reason little was done (I dispute this say we don't know all of what was done). What does the board think is appropriate? punishment?
My argument is that age matters (he is still only 14). One of the guys doesn't think age should ever matter (he agreed with example of a separate case of a DA pushing to prosecute an 8 year old as an adult).

The kid was arrested and mom plans to press charges, so that’s good. I think we need to focus more in the school problem or there were adults on the bus who didn’t stop it. If folks at the school are not protecting kids or removing the trash like this 14 year from the school, then people should lose there jobs.

Huge difference btw 9 and 14, huge difference btw boy and girl.

14 year olds should absolutely be referred to juvie here. There nothing will happen, there is no jail time for juvies but they do have to complete conditions and are monitored.

14 year old fucks up some more, he can go stand in a long line of dumb teens who dont graduate High School and go straight to jail. When he is in his mid 40s he can look through his little tiny thin rectangle window and watch as his classmate drive by drinking their starbucks going to and from work.

This is beyond a just internal school discipline imo. if it was 14 year old boy vs 14 year old boy = keep it in school.

https://news.yahoo.com/woman-charged-plotting-disable-baltimore-171953468.html

Woman plotted with neo-Nazi to attack power grid, feds say

BALTIMORE (AP) — A Maryland woman spent months conspiring with a neo-Nazi leader based in Florida to plan an attack on Baltimore’s power grid, hoping to further their racist mission, law enforcement officials said Monday.

The plan was thwarted when both suspects were arrested last week, adding to a growing list of similar cases as authorities warn the American electrical grid could be a vulnerable target for domestic terrorists.
According to the complaint, Clendaniel was planning to target five substations situated in a ring around Baltimore, a majority-Black city mostly surrounded by heavily white suburban areas.

“It would probably permanently completely lay this city to waste if we could do that successfully,” Clendaniel told a confidential informant she met through Russell, according to the complaint. She was most recently living outside the city in surrounding Baltimore County, officials said.

Clendaniel told the informant she was experiencing terminal kidney failure. With just a few months to live, she wanted to “accomplish something worthwhile” before her death, according to the complaint. Many of their conversations focused on how she could get a weapon to carry out the attacks.

Investigators also found a document in her Google records that they compared to a manifesto. “I would sacrifice (asterisk)(asterisk)everything(asterisk)(asterisk) for my people to just have a chance for our cause to succeed,” it stated, including references to Hitler and other terrorists, according to the complaint.

I’m sure you have heard about the 6 year who shot the teacher here in Virginia…go ahead and reading how violent this child is from the Teacher who almost died and the pieces of incompetent shit that runs these shitholes schools do nothing to protect the teachers:

wounded his first-grade teacher constantly cursed at staff and teachers, chased students around and tried to whip them with his belt and once choked another teacher “until she couldn't breathe

Two days before the shooting, the boy allegedly “slammed” Zwerner's cell phone and broke it, according to the claim notice. He was given a one-day suspension, but when he returned to Zwerner's class the following day, he pulled a 9mm handgun out of his pocket and shot her while she sat at a reading table

I’m so happy she is going to sue and win big. That administration as well as the parents should be held accountable.

https://www.wtvr.com/news/local-news/richmond-school-board-overturned-92-percent-of-recommendations-to-expel-students-february-6-2023

Of course here in Richmond which holds some of the worst schools in the state…they are extremely dangerous and school board is in favor of not disciplining students…instead letting the trash that shows up (over 20 percent are chronically absent) keeps the schools feel unsafe which recent surveys of teachers and school bodies show.

My argument is that age matters (he is still only 14). One of the guys doesn't think age should ever matter (he agreed with example of a separate case of a DA pushing to prosecute an 8 year old as an adult).

13-17 is a tricky age imo about how to properly punish someone for a terrible act/decision. Did that 14-year old have similar actions before? If so, that should factor into the punishment decision.

It's just really sad that things like this happen. Like, what have you experienced or seen before, that made you act like that?
I’m sure you have heard about the 6 year who shot the teacher here in Virginia…go ahead and reading how violent this child is from the Teacher who almost died and the pieces of incompetent shit that runs these shitholes schools do nothing to protect the teachers:

https://www.wtvr.com/news/local-news/6-year-old-student-who-shot-abby-zwerner-richneck-elementary-allegedly-tried-to-choke-another-february-6-2023

wounded his first-grade teacher constantly cursed at staff and teachers, chased students around and tried to whip them with his belt and once choked another teacher “until she couldn't breathe

Richmond School Board overturned 92% of principal recommendations to expel students last year

https://www.wtvr.com/news/local-news/richmond-school-board-overturned-92-percent-of-recommendations-to-expel-students-february-6-2023

Only an idiot like you would blame the school for a 6 year old bringing a gun to school ! Tell me chico when do the parents take responsibility for what happen? Where is the out cry for just ignorant parents? No you bitch about the school not stopping a 6 year old from bringing a gun to school to borrow the words of your defender...........you're a jerk.

You use the most aggressive language towards others here, and you also do it the most often.

I'm no peach here all the time either, neither is Chico. But no one comes close to you in your personal insults towards others here and the sheer quantity of them.

I give shit to chico simply because he deserves it after what he called my Wife and daughters years ago , so you need to understand the big picture now I'll add in the complete and utter BS he was spewing even before trump was elected and it was about Obama, not the man but his family like he did mine, fuck him and you defend him. Then you will take your shots but not really fully own up to them and you will defend everything chico says and does. You do it whether it's me or anyone else. Simply put it's folks like you and chico that put trump into Office and caused this mess, you jump in my shit because I didn't let up even when he was out of Office ,why, because I knew he would be back and it's the reason I still won't let up. You need to educate your self about the real World and not FOX news, I still think there is hope for you but chico , no , he is as scummy as trump just look at his posts from the hell in Richmond in 2020. Politics suck and you can't find a single post I say Biden is a great President but I voted for him and I will again if it keeps trump out. You bitch about my aggressive language but you ignore chico.s . Say what you want about me but unlike you I'm not a hypocrite, I have always attacked trump and trump supporters and always will until they admit the damage they have done to this Country. You or chico haven't a clue what a liberal, independent or Demarcate is.

I think we have to get out of the mind set of a worthy punishment. Obviously there should be consequences but to what end? Punishment for the sake of punishment just leads to recidivism. There is no current outcome we have in place where this kid comes out of it and has great odds of becoming a solid citizen. IMO we have to develop something that gives these kids an opportunity to learn how to function in a society.

There also needs to be school reform. This is a K-8 school? In what minds in Florida and Miami-Dade think it is appropriate for a 14 year old to be in the same school building as a 5 year old? From a developmental standpoint that is woefully inappropriate.

I don't think it is as easy as saying the adults on the bus should have prevented this. It is too easy for people not in education to think there are simple solutions. We had an incident up here where teens were smoking pot on the bus. The bus driver pulled over and went to back to stop the behavior. Meanwhile students up front opened the door and ran off. The parents of the students that ran off took legal actions against the bus driver for leaving the seat unattended to deal with the pot smokers. It would be great to have additional adults on buses but we don't even have enough bus drivers in the nation let alone people willing to be monitors.

We had an issue in Baltimore City where a group of students left the Edmondson high school campus to go to Popeyes for lunch. This is against school policy. One was fatally shot. People were saying how could the teachers let these students leave campus. What is a teacher supposed to do? You can't prevent a student from leaving. Add more police? They can't do anything. A student will say "fuck you" and walk right past them if a police officer told them to return to class. A police officer can't do anything if they aren't breaking the law. Suspend them? Sure. Then they are out on the streets unattended and we get the same issues. Hold the parents accountable? That only works if the parents have buy in.

I remember when this incident below happened. I was mad at Rikki Spector's response. Looking back at it while this seems intensive I imagine it will save the city dollars in the long run if this could be applied. Hiring people to be mentors and funneling money into counseling and skill development when a young person gets in trouble instead of a detention center and then eventually an adult prison will have a lower life time cost.

Biden introduced bill to sunset all federal programs — including Social Security

Forgetful Joe

Also we need to talk reform in SS and Medicare, it’s a legitimate issue. Or Gen Z rather raise there income tax to 25-30% to cover the Boomers who already were more wealthy than them at the sametime, and continuing forward? They seem less concern about SS/Medicare then taxes, so fuck’em let them carry the boomers and then Gen X with higher taxes

We're really going to hold Biden to what he said in 1975? Oy

Nobody cares about SS or Medicare until they need them, then all of a sudden they realize how much those programs need to be expanded.

I care about SS. Been paying into it since I was 14 working at baskin robins.

I just assume there will be nothing for me in 20 or so years when Im eligible.

------------

Fair to say the unspoken (or maybe spoken) point of raising the age limit for SS .. is so people die off and dont get to collect on what they put in?

Sounds .. a little morbid.

People are living longer tho. From what I read, SS can be fixed easier. Medicare is gonna be the problem

Biden been advocating for cuts, reforms in SS up to the late 2000s

No the point isn't to have people die off, the point is to cut benefits.

You can still file as early as age 62, but you take a reduced benefit the earlier you take it. Raising the retirement age is basically a cut in benefits since you have to wait longer to receive your full unreduced benefit, so if they raise the age from 67 to 70 for example you're taking a bigger cut if you file at age 62 as they are increasing the reduction factor.
