Re: New Poster Making People Mad
well the problem last game was he couldn't get it in the hands of his playmakers enough. offensive line woes and the right defensive schemes attributed to all that, and those are based around his limits.
Brunell is a huge target simply because everyone knows his limits and know they're just getting bigger and bigger as each game rolls on. he's a QB in plain decline and doesn't represent the future of the franchise, so he's easy to scapegoat. he's 'in the way' of the hope that Jason Campbell represents, whose limitations aren't well known by everybody in the league already. JC will obviously have his limits too, but in his case his youth at least allows for the potential to get better. Brunell on the other hand represents a dead end.
I'll be really curious to see how patient people are with Campbell. The unknown is always very appealing simply because it's not yet tainted. |

The unknown is always very appealing simply because it's not yet tainted.
you said it. but youth is such a powerful thing though, remember how much patience a lot of us had with Ramsey just because he was relatively young and had the 'potential' to overcome his problems. in contrast, we're just squeezing the very last drops out of Brunell and there's not a lot of hope represented in that. |

Re: New Poster Making People Mad
I was thinking back to Ramsey today and yeah we did have some patience with him, but that quickly faded too. Of course he didn't exactly help himself by making the same mistakes over and over.

Re: New Poster Making People Mad
maybe in the organization hope faded, but on the WarPath? a lot of us are STILL waiting for Ramsey to get on his game!

Re: New Poster Making People Mad
IMO, this statement is kind of asinine. It's not that I mean offense, it's just that I don't care how I sound.
Anywho, do you really think Brunell's going to get any better at this stage of his career? Asking an old dog to learn new tricks at this point doesn't make sense to me. He is what he is. The team has been designed to play a certain brand of football - geared towards what he does.
You're right. This team is geared towards dink and dunk passing and throwing the ball away. That's why Al Saunders was brought in, to run the same conservative offense that Gibbs already had installed. Saying that Brunell is what he is and to just accept it, is basically admitting defeat. So unless everyone around the most important player on the field performs perfectly, they're screwed because the quarterback won't be able to win the game for them. That's the winning attitude that'll have this team at 6-10 at the end of the season. |
Re: New Poster Making People Mad
Lets hope and pray Springs get back to health and the defense can stop losing games for us. One thing about Brunell, he will not lose a game, but he also will not win it for you either.

Re: New Poster Making People Mad
But what really is Joe Gibbs football? I mean as the Offensive Coordinator in San Diego he was heavy on the aerial attack, utilizing the strength of his QB Dan Fouts. Then with the Hogs, he went with a smash mouth ground attack. Now, with speedy receivers he has a pseudo-Walsh West Coast attack
It's true what TAFKAS says. I think the Al Saunders offense might closely resemble the first offense Gibbs tried to run in 1981, before he discovered Riggins and the Hogs. I was young then but I do remember Terry Metcalfe being featured prominently in the first few games. According to the press guide, someone named Melvin Jones started 10 games at Right Guard. Ricky Thompson started 5 at WR. Thompson was a fan favorite. The point I would make is that the Redskins may still need a week or two to find a consistent way to produce on offense. There are pieces there, but they need to find a blend that works week in and week out. I think one thing they should stress is finding a way to Get Brunell comfortable from the get go. When he is out of sorts he mostly stays that way and vice-versa. I would also like to see them roll the pocket more. I don't mean bootlegs. I'm talking about what they use to call "dash plays" when Theismann was QB. This gives Brunell a chance to survey the field and it prevents the rushers from charging to a single spot. At any rate, they need to come out blazing after their bye week to have a decent shot at making something of this season. |
