Re: Game Coverage Sucks
Loved the HD broadcast though. Being in the ATL I don't always get HD for Skin's games. Apparently the NFL Ticket doesn't provide that unless it's nationally broadcast or something.
If you have direct TV, you also need to purchase the Superfan package. |
Re: Game Coverage Sucks
In a twisted sort of way, I liked the coverage.
I like the fact that all the so called experts picked the Eagles to win (Tom Jackson was the only one that had the guts to pick the Skins). I like the fact that the entire nation picked the Eagles to win in a National wide poll. I like the fact that all the pre-game hype was pumping up the Eagles to be the best team in the NFC East and what has happened to the NFC East, it used to be one of the best conferences in the NFL, bullcrap. I like the fact how they pumped up Brian Dawkins to be the X-man Wolverine. I loved it when Mike Sellers trucked him and Todd Yoder took him out. I especially liked how during the postgame the analysts made excuses for the Eagles; McNabb injury caused him to be ineffective, playing in Philly is tough, the Eagles passed too much, they should have run Westbrook more... ...whay...whay...whay...whay Cry Me A River!!! |
Re: Game Coverage Sucks
ESPN was a total philly homer broadcast. I can't believe they did not replay ST's hit in the first quarter. Yet they replayed every one of McChunky soups incomplete passes.
Unbelievable.
I noticed that too. They missed a lot of replays while they were rambling on about senseless crap too. Everyone already knows Philly fans are jerks, there's no reason to hold a quarter-long conversation about it and cause us to miss plays. It was one of the worst-commentated games I've ever watched, BUT...it was a great game on the field. :) |
Re: Game Coverage Sucks
Also, did anyone see the intro to the game with McNabb standing still and pushing off about 10 Redskins with stiffarms and then throwing the ball...all while whining about how much he wants to play good?
That was ridiculous. After it was over I was just staring at the TV saying, "WHAT WAS THAT?" |
Re: Game Coverage Sucks
SmootSmack, does ESPN get all this? Do they honestly listen to the criticism? Is there a way we can voice our opinions to them? What is the reason for having guests in the booth for a quarter talking about everything BUT football? No other network has a guest line up like that!
Personally, I thought the old Sunday night crew of Mike Patrick, Paul McGuire and Joe Thiesmann was fine. |
Re: Game Coverage Sucks
Aren't you amazed, though, that they dropped Joey T and yet managed to talk even more? I think Joe served the purpose of keeping the other guys from talking and that was a GOOD thing.
I didn't hear them say that the Eagle fans booed Santa Clause. Did I miss it? I loved the video clip of Campbell's eyes though. That was gold. |
Re: Game Coverage Sucks
Without question the worst coverage I've ever been exposed to.
I know I'm just repeating what has already been said, but they had too much Barkely, too much Reid, and too much Philly this and Philly that. The whole Donovan desrves better campaign was sickening! Then they jumped to Belichick and cheating! Really, who cares? Balance, guys, balance!! They never talked up or barely acknowledged, for that matter, how well the Redskins were playing defensively. And if they were going to delve into Reid's personal life, they could have easily brought up Gibbs' grandson who has been ill too. Or some of the fresh blood the Skins added during the off season. Also, why must I suffer through a pre-game video of how bad ass Brian Dawkins is and his comic book selection, but nothing about Sean Taylor or Landry? Taylor laid some wood last night, and they pan the camera to Barkley's fat ass! I was as pissed as one could get! A total, complete, and utter fiasco. As a Redskins fan, I felt down right disrespected by the crap they pulled last night.
As to the pre-game material, the only thing I saw was a story on Gibbs' return and how much his team has sucked since he's been back. I suppose the only thing we can chalk this up to was it was a Philly home game, and it might have been different coverage if the Skins were at home. Or maybe I'm really grasping at straws here. |

That was ridiculous. After it was over I was just staring at the TV saying, "WHAT WAS THAT?"
I totally forgot about that one! Utterly ridiculous! I could go on and on about that one. The thing is, the NFL is looking for another darling to smear across the screen other than Peyton Manning every five minutes. So what does ESPN do, have McNabb throw off the entire Redskins defense in some pitiful skit. How ironic was it that they chased his ass across the stadium all night. |

They cheered when Michael Irvin broke his neck. They booed when the team drafted McNabb. (hilarious video) ESPN - Philly fans' rogue image got boost when Santa booed in 1968 - NFL |
Re: Game Coverage Sucks
Worst coverage I've ever seen. Totally disrespected the Redskins, too. ESPN should be ashamed of themselves! Why the hell is Charles Barkley, a washed-up BASKETBALL player, commenting on a FOOTBALL game, anyway?

My family is already eating out of soup cans due to the expense of the NFL Ticket, so I don't know how many more "purchases" my wife will let me get away with! :argue: |

I didn't hear them say that the Eagle fans booed Santa Clause. Did I miss it? I loved the video clip of Campbell's eyes though. That was gold.
There were some really good production elements in the show... THe Campbell eyes package was EMMY award winning type stuff. That was the big criticism about Campbell up to this point and that was really spot on how they covered his progression. I also liked the McNabb package showing 6 plays where he missed open recievers. Really told the story of the game. I agree the booth was shown way too much and as a die-hard skins fan I felt a disconnect to what was going on the field at some points. When Landry totally whiffed on Westbrook I wanted a mention of that how he just was introduced to the NFL and I wanted a replay of Taylor's huge hit. The fumble that was overturned was bizarre... I'm watching and seeing the ball move and start to come out and everyone else refs included saw something else, it was like the twlight zone. Only thing i could think of is the ball came loose and he regained control and touched his knee down, wouldn't know however becasue they were talking about other shizz. Also the tease right before kick was excellent, no other network can match that piece hands down. Guarantee all the other networks are scratcning their heads trying to think of ways to produce that type of element ... Even though i didn't like seeing McNabb avoid skins, he's done so in 8 of the last 11 games so it's the story. He was one of the biggest, if not the biggest star in the game. Barkley is a personality like Howard Stern, people really love him and will watch or people really hate and will watch to see what he'll say next, liked him in their but was in for too long I agree. |
Re: Game Coverage Sucks
I dont know about you, but i am watching the game on ESPN. Kornheiser, Jaws, Charles Barkley, and this other douchbag are covering the game and it has been the worst coverage i have ever seen. They arent even talking about football. In the first half when sean taylor laid a hit on one phillie reciever to jar the ball lose to force a fourth down, they didnt even acknowledge it. they were to busy talking about andy reids personal life ( which was the topic of the whole game for the next 10 minutes). You know what, i dont care how bad you think theismann is, or how arrogant he is, but he did the most important thing that you had to do in announcing. HE TALKED ABOUT FOOTBALL! THESE GUYS FUC*ING SUCK! I mean for one leave reids personal life out of monday night football just for his privacy, but i mean gaddamnit talk about the game. I mean im not even sure if they knew the score half of the time. they were talkin about stupid shit, like the philly mascot and stuff. But what pisses me off the most is that Barkley keeps preachin how Andy Reid and Mcnabb arent getting any credit....i think thats a load of horse shit. IF ANYONE ISNT GETTING ANY CREDIT ITS THE SKINS! They made a mistake in releasing Theismann. Hey but the Skins D is kicking ass so its all good :)
It was horrible to the point I want to call espn and cuss them out. |
Re: Game Coverage Sucks
ya'll pretty much said everything . . .
the mcnabb commercial where he was tossing current identifiable skins D players around like the scene with Neo and a zillion agents in Matrix 2 was f'in ridick-ulus not playing ST and some other replays b/c they were jabbering on about philly fans and andy reids personal family problems was complete BS (much like espn making a big deal out of the noose before the terps national game) having the whole nation plus all-but-one so called "expert" picking the eagles to win, thanks tom jackson . . BUT THAT TONY K INTRO WAS NICE . . . let the whole nation know how we feel about Saint Joe . . . if they didnt know already! side note - swami, parcells and others looked real stupid in my mind even though they were trying to defend joe gibbs by saying he inherited a team w/ salary cap hell and not "joe gibbs" type players by saying now they finally have 2 running backs who fit his system and and an O-line to run behind . . . well we've had portis, betts and the dirtbags when gibbs got here so it wasnt a matter of getting the right players but a matter of getting the right plays called and having a QB who can throw the ball more than 15 yards. |
