Re: Vinny Cerrato promoted to Executive Vice President
We are all entitled to our own opinions. I will respect Snyder's decision, but I will respectfully disagree with it and move on.
However, if we are back to crappy drafts and player personnel moves, if we fail to make the playoffs, I will be blaming SNYDER AND CERATTO. Nobody else! Regardless of who they get to coach the Redskins, it will not be the coaches fault. Snyder thinks he and Cerrato are qualified and experienced enough to run a billion dollar franchise? More power to them. The Buck now stops at Cerrato and Snyder. I don't want to hear the Cerrato apologists in a year or two giving excuses or saying he has no control. He has it now. I hope he does well. He better do well. |
Re: Vinny Cerrato promoted to Executive Vice President
Well now hang on folks.
Vinny was director of college scouting with the 49ers when they won a SB. He was Lou Holtz's top scouting guy when ND won a national championship. And if Gibbs is saying that Vinny and his crew had a major hand in developing our roster, then he had a hand in at least some of the following: Anthony Montgomery Kedric Golston Reed Doughty Chris Cooley Rocky McIntosh Chris Wilson Stephon Heyer Jason Campbell Carlos Rogers Sean Taylor Laron Landry Then the free agents, like Griffin, Washington, Springs, etcetera. Vinny may have had a hand in Duckett, Lloyd, and Archuleta, which were crippling moves. But if Vinny's getting credit here, then you gotta give some love. The tough thing is, I don't think any of us really know how much of the roster-building was Gibbs, and how much was Vinny. Either way, the coaching decision is really the critical move. Vinny as Exec VP doesn't change much in my eyes. The new coach will work with Vinny to determine personnel needs. But it's the new coach that will have to deal with the players, and all the players want GW.
Good post. Just for the sake of throwing it out there, what if Vinny played a bigger role than Gibbs in the recent personnel success stories? And I do agree with your final point. He's already been working in a similar capacity. This is mostly a change in title. |
Re: Vinny Cerrato promoted to Executive Vice President
Do you guys think that Snyder promoted Cerrato so he can take the fall if lot of fans get upset with the selection of the new head coach.
You think that Snyder would defer the selection reasoning to the new GM Vinny when he's asked about it at the press conference? |
Re: Vinny Cerrato promoted to Executive Vice President
Vinny is not the new GM.
Vinny is not the new GM.
He doesn't have the title but his promotion essentially makes him similar to one. He's like the executive vice president, something like that. Anyway, still enough of a responsibility change to have Snyder make him the bad guy if there is a lot of fan dissention. |
Re: Vinny Cerrato promoted to Executive Vice President
Vinny is not the new GM.
Whats the difference between what Vinny does and what a GM does? I'm really okay with this move. Our personnel hasn't been bad recently. We've gotten a few late round gems. I figured it was Gibbs, but this is the time to see if it was or not. I'll give it a shot, and if nothing else it created the GM type of position which keeps us from having a coach with a ton of responsibility. |
Re: Vinny Cerrato promoted to Executive Vice President
Accountability is the big plus here. The Redskins can no longer make personnel moves and act like everyone in the organization was behind it.
It's Vinny now who is responsible for all football operations. If the team improves, you know who to credit. If if bombs, you know who to blame. |
Re: Vinny Cerrato promoted to Executive Vice President
If we are blame Vinny for the bad moves of the last few years, does he not get credit for the good moves as well?
As has been said, though not without some questionable moves, our front office has had some big success's as well |

That hurts. That really hurts. :banghead: |

Re: Vinny Cerrato promoted to Executive Vice President
I just want a good football team that will challenge for a superbowl sometime in the near future and put together some back to back good seasons, is that too much to ask? Why do the gods test our fanhood every year? I swear we have been cursed ever since we moved out of RFK.
Daniel Snyder is the cross that every skins fan must bear...even when things seem like they are headed in the right direction for once we can't breathe easy b/c we know Snyder is sitting back in some dark corner conjuring up ways to screw us over (even if his intentions are good). I know this kind of thing wouldnt happen to any other football team in the league, just the skins. ARRGHHH |
Re: Vinny Cerrato promoted to Executive Vice President
Joe Gibbs, who recently retired after four years as Head Coach and Team President added, "Vinny worked closely with me on all personnel matters. This is a well-deserved acknowledgement of that."
"Today's Washington Redskins roster is a testament to Vinny and the personnel department being an integral part of our team structure in identifying players, whether acquired in free agency, the draft or on sometimes very short notice as we made our way through the season," Gibbs said. Well it looks like Gibbs is backing this move and may have had a role in it as they have his comments here.
What do you expect Gibbs to say? That he sucks? and that Snyder is an arrogant immature jerk? C'mon....they are just fighting their guts out at Redskins park to get it right.... I know what I'd do if I were the Skins owner....promote my unqualified buddy to run everything and hire some outsider to come in and change everything for my team that has finally stabilized and has become a playoff team... For all of you that think Gibbs has rubbed off on Snyder...this is the thread for you....WOW promoting Cerrato? Cerrato? What other owner would do that....you got it.....ZERO. Hope you enjoyed it while it lasted....anyone could eventually make a good decision by laws of average, such as hiring Gibbs....but the first move he makes after he leave is promoting CERRATO? WOW....what an idiot! Get ready for some crappy football again. UGH! |
