thanks for the info. Not much experience as the gm, but long enough to guide a team. I wonder what the circumstances really were in his firing & how much Gruden had to do w/it. |
Re: RUMOR: Bruce Allen to Redskins?
I think it was pretty much stated this past offseason that Vinny would be the football boss. Hence the whole accountability issue and Snyder giving him "another year" to turn things around. I think at some point you gotta stop the paranoia/hate, and just go with what's been said by the team. I don't know if Snyder has relinquished his involvement with player contracts, but I think Vinny is in charge of who gets acquired through free agency and draft picks.
Yes, stated by whom? The Redskins, owned by danny, who happens to have a rich background in pr/marketing & seeks to control every aspect of pr about his team. What would you expect him to say? "well, vinny is in charge of all football decisions, until I decide I want to intervene." Granted, it looks as though Vinny has been given more authority & is speaking for the draft picks. But my point is that if you were good friends w/your boss, even though he officially has handed over the reins, don't you think that his opinion would heavily influence your decisions? I asked this question of JLC but it didn't get posted in his online chat. I asked if there were any owner/gm friendships like that in the nfl and how they affect biz. The only one I know of was Shanahan & Bowlen in Denver. It was really hard for both of them when Shanahan was fired, but after all those years maybe it couldn't go on w/ a friendship and a business relationship. IMO, if you value the friendship long term, it might make sense to change the business relationship, whether by firing or reassigning duties. |

Yes, Snyder may have some influence, but many saw his change of title (promotion?) to Exec VP as a sign that he would be the one in charge. But Snyder is not at the level of Jerry Jones, meddling in everything, nor do I think he's at the level of getting involved as he was prior to Gibbs coming to town. |

Our view ...
Of course, ‘not very good at all’ would be an accurate description of Redskins GM/whateverhedoes Vinny Cerrato and Snyder himself. Together, Snyderrato have mired the Redskins in mediocrity or worse for most of the last 10 years. Their drafts have been lackluster and often ignored and free agency has usually been an expensive mess, especially when Joe Gibbs wasn’t handling it. And don’t ask about trades. They’ve been worse.
|

You may be right, but we're both guessing anyway. We don't know that he doesn't actually 'meddle' more than Jones, cause DS doesn't speak to the media, whereas JJ talks about everything. My point is not to accuse him of meddling, though that shoe has seemed to fit in the past, rather I think it's naive to think that his influence over Vinny has to come through on virtually all major decisions. He's VC's boss & friend, so e.g., it's logical that drafting 2 wr's & a te in the 2nd rnd. appears to be influenced by DS, given his history of wanting a star wr. Not to mention the reported trade offer for ocho cinco. I can't believe that's solely Vinny making that decision. |
Re: RUMOR: Bruce Allen to Redskins?
off the subject but with the Ravens Ed Reed. And the Eagles Samuels and Dawkins. I can't help but wonder how much better we would have been had we still had S.Taylor. I know one man can't so it all but a guy like that can be a game changer. I know it's obvious but worth stating. We lost our intiminator.

ST would have made a HUGE difference. He was our best playmaker on "D". |
Re: RUMOR: Bruce Allen to Redskins?
Just having Sean Taylor would have allowed our other bomb playmaker (Landry) to play his natural song safety position and blow some people up.

Yes, and if he were here, he would consume opponents with fireballs from his eyes and bolts of lightening from his arse. |

thanks 53. The point I was trying to make was we had a elite D in the making with him which would put a little less pressure on O. So FO was on the right track in some ways that we are not considering. He was a huge loss. Obviously |
