Re: Let It Snow

Here's what the Washington Post "Capital Weather Gang" predicts:

Tomorrow (Friday): Clouds will quickly thicken during the morning. Snow is likely to begin between mid-morning and early afternoon. A mix with sleet or even rain at the onset is possible along and east of I-95, but most areas will get snow. The precipitation should be light to begin with but expect moderate snow by mid-to-late afternoon with some accumulation by the evening commute. Accumulations may be around 2-4" by dusk as temperatures remain around freezing. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow Night: Snow will be moderate to heavy for a good part of the night with 1 to 2 inch accumulations per hour likely at times. Winds will begin to pick up from the northeast at around 10 to 20 mph, leading to some blowing snow and lowered visibility. The snowfall may let up some in the late-night hours, but it's likely to continue without much too much pause. Temperatures will be in the mid-to upper 20s. By morning, additional accumulations should be around one foot in many spots. Confidence: Medium-High

A LOOK AHEAD

Saturday is likely to start with a second burst of snow in the morning as an upper-level disturbance follows the main storm offshore. Snow should taper off to flurries by or during the afternoon. Temperatures will struggle to make it up to the freezing mark. Look for another 2 to 4" accumulation with total storm snowfall expected to be in the 16 to 26" range most spots (some possibly more, others perhaps less). Temperatures will drop quickly overnight with the fresh snow cover to upper teens and lower 20s. Confidence: Medium-High

Snowfall probabilities:

5% chance: Less than 6"
15% chance: 6-10"
40% chance: 10-16"
40% chance: 16"+
I don't know radar, but this is the moisture feeding the storm and looks mean

This was from a Vdot source. I hope its not true, but have no idea. Apperently they are delaying the announcement? Dont hold me to it. But stock up. I had to hitchhike 21st century style last weekend (craigslist) to get out of my house and get beer. Stock up

I wish we could get a few inches so I could get out of going to dinner at a friends of the wife's house.

Ummm, huh? And why would they delay an announcement? That seems pretty counter-intuitive

I just went and looked at the map and it shows our area is right at the line to get a mix. If this storm moves down some we could get that unectected snow you guys got last week. Maybe we should get that global warming thread going again.

Seems that way. As I headed home tonight a fleet of dump trucks (7 or 8) full of salt looked to be headed your way.

That didnt make any sense to me either. Im thinking that fri&sat plus tues&wends is what is supposed to amount to 4-5 feet. Well see......

The grocery stores are a total shit show. Huge lines, no carts, people arguing, everything picked over. Thank god my fiancee handled that for us today. Patience is a virtue I was born without. Just hearing her story about it nearly made my head pop.

But now we've got a fridge full of food, some Sierra Nevada, a few nice bottles of red wine, and some scotch. Time to settle in and ride it out. Actually it will probably be a very chill, relaxing weekend. Work tomorrow could be interesting though.
