Who cares if they are gun-shy...it's not like being Gung-ho has worked for us in the past. I don't care how they do it, I just want them to get the job of winning a SB done! Pronto!
I get the sense that maybe Dansby just wasn't that interested in signing with us. And that's something we sort of have to accept, that, for now at least, when money isn't the deciding factor we can't offer quite what other teams are looking for. We're not a winning franchise right now. We will be soon enough though.

Plus there are a whole bunch of other factors, like sometimes guys just have in their minds specifics teams or people they want to play for
Exactly. If we aren't willing to break the bank, then we don't have a lot else going for us right now. If we do offer obscene sums, then it's just business as usual and a repeating cycle - overpay for outsiders, no continuity, mediocrity, over pay to try and break out of mediocrity, no continuity ....

Now, it appears we aren't trying to overcome the "I'd rather play somewhere else" mentality by throwing bucket loads of money at guys who end up here only b/c of the money.

BTW - Did I miss something? Has Foote signed somewhere else?
it's good to get that low priced gas but, you end up getting what you pay for
not premium performance. I would not be soo against this strategy if we had some more draft picks, but we don' t.
You say this as if the acquisition of Clifton/Pashos/Parker/Foote would have actually provided premium performance.

If you wanted premium performance in this free agent class, you pretty much had to chase Peppers, Brackett, or Kampman (or Ben Watson, if you had a need at TE). We let those players sign elsewhere, so you're already shopping in the bargain bin at that point.

Rather than being gun shy, what if we aren't offering much guaranteed money. Since we know that camp will be highly competitive, i think that we are probably low balling the guaranteed side of the equation. i mean the only player signed is a versatile guy who has the ability to fill more than one spot on our line, and is comfortable both starting and being a backup. and i do like stating the obvious

they're doing the right thing. i'd like to see them be a little more aggressive but they're taking the approach that it's going to take some time to be a contender. we're not going to be a contender next year so no need to go out and over pay for a guy like peppers.

that and probably the shorter term offerings could be part of it

Now both players signed are like that. They're stop gaps between the team we have to field for a year and the team we will be the year after next. Let the rebuilding keep going strong.
